Abstract

Abstract

The prevailing patriarchal culture in Indonesia that posits a father only to act as a breadwinner is thought to be the reason for the lack of father involvement in parenting. Therefore, this study aims to analyze father involvement in problematic behavior in children aged 3-4 years by considering the variables of father's socioeconomic status (SES) and child's gender. This study employs a quantitative descriptive approach through a multiple regression model coupled with survey. The selection of respondents was determined through quota sampling technique by considering the ease of access to data collection. With or without control over the SES of fathers and the gender of children, the engagement indicator contributes an impact to the problematic behavior in children, while accessibility does not. The problematic behavior in children is lower with the control over SES of fathers and the gender of children compared to the condition without control over these two variables. Of the two variables, only the father’s age indicator affects the problematic behavior in children. The results of this study can encourage fathers to get actively involved in raising their children in a way that is appropriate to the current cultural context and situation.

Abstract

This research aims to find out what steps female politicians must take to utilize political modalities to gain public sympathy. The research method used is qualitative research with a descriptive analysis approach. Data obtained through primary and secondary data. The research results show that the modalities at hand can influence voters' attitudes and can change people's views through the influence of an actor and a political party. Utilizing family networks is the right step to gain political support by gathering a mass base, especially in political outreach activities and political campaigns. Likewise, the political capital he has as the holder of the most votes in the National Democratic Party (Nasedem) already has loyal sympathizers and strengthens his strength to retain voters' votes, and economic capital as a supporting factor in campaign activities, especially financing campaign props, such as print media. and electronic media.

Abstract

Resilience is important for students to rise from stressful events such as cognitive rumination. Cognitive rumination makes students trapped in contemplation about their problems, resulting in students becoming unproductive. Therefore, this study aims to see the effect of resilience on cognitive rumination of Faculty of Education and Psychology Universitas Negeri Semarang and Faculty of Teaching and Education Universitas Bengkulu students. Quantitative methods were used in this study with an ex-post facto design. The population in this study is FEP UNNES and FETT UNIB students. A total of 320 FEP UNNES students and 292 FETT UNIB students were used as samples with purposive random sampling techniques. The data collection technique used a psychological scale of resilience (24 items) and a psychological scale of cognitive rumination (27 items). Hypotheses are tested and analyzed using simple regression analysis techniques. The results of this study showed that resilience had a significant negative effect on students' cognitive rumination (R=.890, R2=.793, β=-.890, t=112.605, and p<0.001). These results mean that resilience contributes 79,3% to cognitive rumination, so students who have high resilience are not easy to get caught up in negative rumination and remain productive in carrying out their academic activities. Further implications of this research for the field of guidance and counseling studies in higher education are to provide an initial foundation for digging deeper into aspects that can increase resilience in college students through experimental research. Researchers recommend looking at other perspectives of the subjects studied. For example, by adding a gender moderator variable to see differences in levels of resilience between male and female. In addition, expanding the range of research subjects to a wider range will further increase the generalizability of research with different sampling techniques.

Abstract

The tendency of performing self-handicapping by students is somehow potential to reduce their academic achievement. Thus, this study strived for examining the effect of graded exposure and self-instruction group counseling to reduce students’ self-handicapping behavior in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. Experimental method was carried out with pretest-posttest comparison group design involving 21 people divided into three groups chosen using purposive sampling from 150 students of Islamic Junior High School (MTs) in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. Findings indicated that the two kinds of counseling could effectively reduce students’ tendency to do self-handicapping. In addition, the Mann Whitney test showed that the group counseling done using self-instruction was more effective than the graded exposure. Regarding these findings, counselors are recommended to implement self-instruction technique to reduce the self-handicapping behavior by Junior High School students.

Their data were collected using the Perception of Academic Stress Scale and examined in mixed manova test to compare the effectiveness of the treatment in experimental and control groups. Findings showed that the online counseling based on an acceptance and commitment therapy approach was able to reduce students’ academic stress. In addition, the combination of two kinds of counseling, namely synchronous and asynchronous gave the most optimum results. Also, this study further explored the interaction between counselors and counselees in web-based ACT intervention to reduce academic stress.

Abstract

Disruptive behaviors during class can interfere with teaching and learning activities. Behavioral contracting is one of the techniques in the behavioral approach that was chosen to use in assisting students to achieve full awareness to surge self-control. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of behavioral contracting techniques to reduce disruptive behaviors of students at SMK Muhammadiyah Kajen Pekalongan. The subjects included 2 students selected by the purposive random sampling method. The data collection instrument consisted of an observation sheet with a frequency-measuring form. The design of this study was a single-subject design (SSD) in a pattern of A - B - A. Visual analysis of the graph intended to find the average score, level, trend, stability, and data overlap. The results of this analysis indicate a change in level and trend from stable to a decrease in the frequency of disruptive behavior which can then be concluded that the behavior contract technique is effective for reducing disruptive behavior in students. Further research is recommended to join other techniques with behavioral contracting.
