Abstract

Objective: The literature on Maternal Subjective Well-being (MSW) has grown rapidly over the past two decades. MSW is a multidimensional construct encompassing subjective evaluations of mothers’ lives, including overall life satisfaction, happiness, and emotional well-being.  Method: A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases to identify English-language articles published between 2013 and 2023 using the keywords mother, subjective well-being, and special needs children, yielding 2,200 records, of which 8 met the inclusion criteria and were subsequently analyzed using the PRISMA framework and thematic synthesis approach.  Results: The review identified eight eligible studies and found that maternal subjective well-being is influenced by both internal factors (self-efficacy, hope, positive perceptions, and resilience) and external factors (social support, family functioning, and partner relationships). The findings highlight that strengthening psychological resources and social support systems may play a key role in improving the well-being of mothers caring for children with special needs. Novelty: The review highlights resilience as a key protective factor that can mitigate the negative effects of parenting stress on maternal subjective well-being and quality of life among mothers of children with disabilities. A notable research gap is the limited understanding of how protective factors, particularly resilience and benefit finding, can be developed and activated to support positive maternal adaptation to caregiving demands.

Abstract

The career decision-making process is a critical developmental task during adolescence, especially for senior high school students transitioning from further education to employment. This study examined the effect of teacher support on career decision-making self-efficacy (CDMSE), with gender tested as a potential moderator, among 542 students from public senior high schools in Semarang City, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using Hayes’ PROCESS Model 1. The findings revealed that teacher support significantly predicted students’ CDMSE (β = 0.60, p < .01, 95% CI: 0.50–0.72). Gender differences were also observed, with female students reporting higher CDMSE than male students (β = -2.40, p < .05, 95% CI: -4.46 to– 0.35). However, the interaction between teacher support and gender was non-significant (β = -0.19, p > .05), indicating that teacher support contributes similarly to CDMSE across genders. This study offers novel empirical evidence from the Indonesian secondary school context, enriching the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) through gender-based moderation testing. Practically, the findings highlight the importance of strengthening teachers’ roles in school-based career guidance to enhance students’ confidence in making informed career choices. Abstract

The use of early childhood gadgets reaps a lot of attention from various parties because the use of gadgets by early children can adversely affect the ability of early childhood empathy. This study aims of this study is to describe the ability of early childhood empathy gadget users in Banyumanik Village. This study uses qualitative methods using data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observations and documentation. The results of this study explain that excessive use of gadgets by early childhood in Banyumanik village has a negative impact on children's behavior that can be seen from the reaction of children in the form of crying, hitting angry at parents to kick the door when getting a refusal to use gadgets. In addition, early childhood gadget users have less concern. The behavior explains that early childhood gadget users have poor empathy abilities. The role of parents in monitoring the use of early childhood gadgets in Banyumanik village can be said to be lacking. This is because parents are not consistent in supervising and educating early childhood in the use of gadgets so that children have less empathic abilities, for example, children cannot read other people's messages well and are selfish. However, in Banyumanik village there are also parents who are consistent and have a firm stance against the use of early childhood gadgets because they hope their children who are still early can have good empathy skills such as not being selfish. Constraints parents in improving the ability of early childhood empathy gadget users include the availability of time parents supervise the use of gadgets, care and attention to the low early childhood, knowledge of parents related to early childhood empathy skills, video content on social media that set a bad example and the consistent level of parents in supervising as well as educating early childhood gadget users.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyse the ideal character of indigenous counsellors in Indonesia based on moral and spiritual teachings in Serat Wedhatama. Gadamer's hermeneutic approach is used to explore the deep meaning of the Serat Wedhatama text and contextualize it within the framework of modern guidance and counseling. The primary source of Serat Wedhatama was analysed using a qualitative approach, focusing on the reduction process, data presentation, and conclusions. The Miles and Huberman approach was used in the data reduction and presentation process, which allows the identification of the ideal counsellor character based on Serat Wedhatama. The results of the research, based on the analysis of the Serat Wedhatama text, indicate that Characters such as humility, patience, perseverance, compassion, self-awareness, caution, surrender to God, and remembering the afterlife are identified as important attributes of indigenous counsellors. These findings provide a significant contribution to counselling practice in Indonesia, especially in developing a multicultural counselling model that is more relevant to the local cultural context and spiritual values. By combining traditional principles with a modern approach, this study helps build a more holistic and morally grounded counselling model. This research enriches the literature on multicultural guidance and counselling, while offering an alternative indigenous approach that is more appropriate to Indonesian society. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of self-acceptance and gratitude in mediating the influence of social support on subjective well-being. The research sample consisted of 102 mothers of children with special needs aged 1–12 years, selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used included the SWLS (Satisfaction with Life Scale) and PANAS (Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule) to measure subjective well-being; GQ-6 (Gratitude Questionnaire) to assess gratitude; MSPSS (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support) to assess social support; and PPAS (Porter Parent Acceptance Scale) to assess self-acceptance. Data were analyzed using path analysis mediation with JASP version 18.3. Scientifically, this research contributes to expanding psychological understanding of internal and external factors that influence parental subjective well-being through positive emotional mechanisms. The findings show that self-acceptance and gratitude significantly mediate the effect of social support on subjective well-being, with a total contribution of 97.4%. Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of emotional intelligence and achievement motivation to grit among scholarship recipient students, with a comparison between science (exact) and non-science (non-exact) fields. Using an ex post facto design, the participants were 350 scholarship recipients at Universitas Negeri Semarang selected through proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS), Achievement Motivation Scale, and Grit Scale for Children and Adults (GSCA). Data analysis employed multiple linear regression. The results showed that emotional intelligence significantly contributed to grit (? = 0.298, p < 0.05), while achievement motivation demonstrated a stronger contribution (? = 0.712, p < 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables explained 62.8% of the variance in grit. In addition, science students exhibited higher levels of grit compared to non-science students. These findings indicate that grit among scholarship recipients is shaped by emotional and motivational factors as well as academic context, highlighting the importance of counseling interventions that strengthen emotional regulation and achievement motivation.

Abstract

Lack of enthusiasm, confidence, and frustration when facing difficult tasks affects the student engagement of Generation Z students. This study aims to analyze the influence of self-efficacy and self-regulated learning on the student engagement of Gen Z students. This study uses an explanatory quantitative approach. The sampling technique used is proportionate stratified random sampling with a sample size of 395 Gen Z students aged 18–24 years at Universitas Negeri Semarang. The scales used in this study were the self-efficacy scale, the self-regulated learning scale, and the student engagement scale. The hypothesis test results showed that self-efficacy and self-regulated learning simultaneously had a significant effect on student engagement (R² = 0.577; p < 0.001), which means that these two variables were able to explain 57.7% of the variation in student engagement. Further research is recommended to examine other factors that influence Gen Z students' engagement in order to obtain a more comprehensive model.

Abstract

Adolescents’ life satisfaction is an important indicator of subjective well-being and has been associated with better mental health and academic adjustment. This study examined the effect of wisdom on life satisfaction among high school students and tested gratitude as a mediator of this relationship. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed using simple mediation analysis (PROCESS Macro Model 4). The participants were 544 high school students in Semarang, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using validated Likert-type scales measuring wisdom, gratitude, and life satisfaction, all of which demonstrated satisfactory internal reliability. Indirect effects were tested using a bias-corrected bootstrap procedure with 10,000 samples. The findings revealed that wisdom significantly predicted gratitude and life satisfaction, while gratitude also significantly predicted life satisfaction. The indirect effect of wisdom on life satisfaction through gratitude was significant, indicating partial mediation. These results suggest that wisdom contributes to adolescents’ life satisfaction both directly and indirectly by fostering gratitude as an important psychological resource. The study extends the positive psychology literature by clarifying the mechanism linking wisdom and life satisfaction and offers practical implications for school-based interventions aimed at promoting student well-being.
