Abstract

The career decision-making process is a critical developmental task during adolescence, especially for senior high school students transitioning from further education to employment. This study examined the effect of teacher support on career decision-making self-efficacy (CDMSE), with gender tested as a potential moderator, among 542 students from public senior high schools in Semarang City, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using Hayes’ PROCESS Model 1. The findings revealed that teacher support significantly predicted students’ CDMSE (β = 0.60, p < .01, 95% CI: 0.50–0.72). Gender differences were also observed, with female students reporting higher CDMSE than male students (β = -2.40, p < .05, 95% CI: -4.46 to– 0.35). However, the interaction between teacher support and gender was non-significant (β = -0.19, p > .05), indicating that teacher support contributes similarly to CDMSE across genders. This study offers novel empirical evidence from the Indonesian secondary school context, enriching the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) through gender-based moderation testing. Practically, the findings highlight the importance of strengthening teachers’ roles in school-based career guidance to enhance students’ confidence in making informed career choices. Keywords: career decision-making self-efficacy, gender, teacher support

Abstract

Water spinach cultivation in Pulau Semambu Village, South Sumatra, still encounters several constraints, including low productivity, pest and disease attacks, and limited use of biological agents to support sustainable production. This community service program aimed to strengthen farmers’ capacity by introducing practical knowledge and skills in producing and applying locally sourced Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) within a healthy cultivation system. The activities were implemented through four participatory stages: socialization of PGPR concepts and healthy farming practices, training on PGPR production, on-farm demonstration (demonfarm) of its application, and monitoring and evaluation of plant growth and farmer responses. Evaluation results indicated an 85% increase in participants’ knowledge and skills. PGPR application improved plant height, leaf number, and overall vigor of water spinach while reducing pest and disease symptoms. The program demonstrates that participatory training combined with demonfarm effectively facilitates PGPR technology adoption to support environmentally friendly and sustainable water spinach production.

This study aims to analyze the transformation of counseling mindsets among guidance and counseling teachers after participating in the 7 Jurus BK Hebat training program, as well as to identify supporting and inhibiting factors. Using a mixed methods approach with a convergent design, the study involved 411 participants selected through convenience random sampling. Data were collected using a mindset transformation scale (α = .939) and open-ended questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively and thematically. The findings are expected to illustrate mindset change patterns and inform sustainable reflective training models.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of motivational interviewing (MI) group counseling in enhancing intrinsic motivation and academic engagement among students at State Senior High School 2 Sragen, Indonesia. Students with low intrinsic motivation and academic engagement often display a lack of attention during learning activities, disinterest in school, use of cell phones for non-academic purposes during study time, and failure to complete assigned tasks. This study employed a pretest and multiple posttest design, with 14 students selected via purposive sampling and subsequently divided into two groups: the experimental group (7 students), who received group counseling with the MI approach over four meetings; and the control group (7 students), who did not receive intervention. Data were collected using the Intrinsic Motivation Scale (α = 0.92) and the Academic Engagement Scale (α = 0.89). The data were analyzed using the mixed MANOVA technique. Results demonstrated that the MI approach group counseling intervention positively influences students' intrinsic motivation and academic engagement. Additionally, a measurement effect (time) was observed in relation to students' intrinsic motivation and academic engagement. The study also showed an interaction effect between the MI approach group counseling intervention and measurement (time) on students' intrinsic motivation and academic engagement. Therefore, MI approach group counseling is an effective method for increasing students' intrinsic motivation and academic engagement. The presence of ambivalence is a crucial aspect in group counseling with the MI approach to facilitate the desired change talk.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of mind skills and self-compassion of school counselors in counseling services. The research method used quantitative with a cross-sectional survey research design. The instruments used in this study were mind-skills test instruments and self-compassion scales. The test on the validity and reliability of research instruments was performed using two ways. The validity of the mind-skills test instrument uses the point biserial technique because the data was dichotomous (true or false). The validity test of the self-compassion scale was carried out with the Pearson product-moment correlation point using an error level of 5%. The reliability test value of the mind-skills test instrument was 0.836 while the self-compassion scale was 0.804. Judging from the degree of reliability scale, the two instruments are included in the degree of strong reliability. The results of this study indicate that the school counselor's level of mind skills is in the very high category (M = 32.23) and the school counselor's level of self-compassion is in the high category (M = 77.03). The data in this study can be used to design counselor competency development programs, for example, compassion training.

Abstract

Self-compassion and forgiveness are inseparable in the lives of adolescents because adolescents are vulnerable to various conflicts due to social changes and demands that cause negative emotions and other psychological problems. Adolescents need self-compassion and forgiveness to be able to regulate negative emotions in dealing with difficult situations. Compassion focused group therapy is an approach that focuses on compassion so that it can help adolescents to foster kindness to themselves, accept themselves and difficult situations as human and be able to provide forgiveness to themselves and others. This study aims to test the effectiveness of compassion-focused group therapy to increase self-compassion and forgiveness in students. This study used a pretest and multiple posttest research design. The research subjects consisted of 16 students of State Senior High School Giovanni, Kupang, Indonesia who were selected through purposive sampling. The research subjects were divided into experimental and control groups. The research instruments used were the compassion scale adapted from the SCS (self-compassion scale) into the Indonesian version and designed based on Kristin Neff's original work and the forgiveness scale designed by the author. The data obtained were analyzed using repeated measures mixed manova. The results of data analysis found that compassion-focused group therapy is effective for increasing self-compassion and forgiveness. Therefore, school counselors can apply compassion-focused group therapy to increase compassion and forgiveness in students. Future research is suggested to expand the research with different research designs and research subjects, analyze the effect of gender, age and cultural differences on the effectiveness of compassion-focused therapy and can test the effectiveness of compassion-focused therapy individually and its effectiveness on other dependent variables.
