Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out how YouTube is used as an English learning media among students in the second semester and fourth semesters of English Department Students of the Faculty of Languages and Literature, State University of Makassar.  This research used a purposive sampling technique with students in the second semester and students in the fourth semester. The study employed a qualitative method with a case study design. This research used questionnaires and semi-structured interviews as data collection methods. The results showed that students in this study used the YouTube application to learn English by watching content they liked, such as film and animation, music videos, educational, gaming, news, how-to, style, sports, food vloggers, talk shows, and religious content. The ways they learn to use YouTube are various, such as activating the subtitle or transcript feature, reading video titles or descriptions, reading comments, listening to music than looking for words they do not know, noting new vocabulary they hear from speakers, practicing pronunciation, etc. These things help them improve their English skills, specifically listening, enlarging their vocabulary, and increasing their pronunciation knowledge. In addition, YouTube provides fun English content with interesting YouTube features that make students more comfortable and enthusiastic about learning English, this also makes it easier for students to understand the material presented without getting bored. Students also expressed their challenges in using YouTube for learning English, such as inappropriate content, annoying advertisements, internet connection problem, and unavailability of the transcript feature on some videos. Based on the result, it can be concluded that most students of the English Education Study Program use the YouTube application to improve their English language skills and language components by watching English content they like by listening to the speaker, activating the subtitle or transcript feature, and read the title and comments on the video.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out students' interest in using Prezi media in learning English, to find out the increasing interest in learning towards the use of Prezi media in learning English in class X SMAN 1 Parepare. This research is a quantitative study using a pre-experimental design, namely One Group Pre-test Post-test Only design. The population in this study were 324 students with sample of class X.1 totaling 25 students selected using cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques are through the distribution of questionnaires and test. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results showed that students' interest in learning English with Prezi media for class X.1 SMAN 1 Parepare was in the very good category. It was proved that the mean score of students’ prequestionnaires was 45.56 and the mean score of students’ postquestionnaires was 56.80. From that data, it could be concluded that the use of Prezi medium could improve students’ learning interest.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how students perceive the use of Grammarly Premium in the process of writing. This research applied the qualitative method to achieve the research objectives. The subjects of this research were 6 students from the English Education Department, Faculty of Languages and Literature, Universitas Negeri Makassar, who are currently in their seventh semester of the academic year 2022/2023, The subjects were chosen by using purposive sampling. This research used the interview as the instrument of the study. The findings of this research found that students perceive positive and negative perceptions toward the use of Grammarly Premium. Positive perceptions include being easy to access and use having more complete features, can be integrated into the laptop software, motivating, and having a lot of useful features. Negative perceptions include less accurate and detailed feedback, sometimes feedback out of context, limited plagiarism feature, and requires a stable internet connection. The result showed that students’ perceptions were dominated by positive perceptions.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the behavior of a successful entrepreneur named Ir. Sholah Al Athiyah is based on the teachings of the Koran and to fill the void in Muslim entrepreneurship literature and to reveal new findings that have not been explored by other researchers. Ir. Sholah Al Athiyah is an entrepreneur and businessman who lives in Egypt. The exact definition of the term entrepreneurship is still being discussed, so that research on entrepreneurship remains relevant. The source of discussion in this article is the Al-Qur'an, because the study provides a deeper understanding of the basic contents of the Al-Qur'an. Therefore, this article tries to answer the attitude of Ir. Sholah Al Athiyah in Islamic entrepreneurship based on the Koran. This research needs to be carried out considering that the current development of large corporations requires business research that comes directly from the Al-Qur’an as a reference and facts about Islamic figures. This research uses library research methods and examines relevant scientific articles as data sources. The results of this research contain several basic verses about entrepreneurship. This verse relates to the attitude of business actors when running a business. Lastly, the concept of Islamic entrepreneurship would be very suitable to be applied because it contains two meanings Hablumminannas and Hablumminallah, as is the attitude of Ir. Sholah Al Athiyah who always adheres to the values of the verses of the Koran and makes Allah SWT the main investor.

Abstract

Penulisan artikel ilmiah merupakan keterampilan penting bagi mahasiswa dalam mengembangkan kemampuan akademik dan berkontribusi pada pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan. Artikel ini membahas pelaksanaan program pembekalan mahasiswa baru bertajuk “Pembekalan Materi Penulisan Artikel Ilmiah bagi Mahasiswa Baru Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Negeri Makassar.” Program ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman dasar mengenai penulisan artikel ilmiah kepada mahasiswa baru, melalui dua tahapan utama yaitu pemberian materi oleh dosen dan sesi tanya jawab. Pada tahap pertama, dosen menyampaikan materi tentang struktur artikel ilmiah, teknik pengutipan, dan penggunaan bahasa akademik yang tepat. Hasil observasi menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap komponen artikel ilmiah dan teknik-teknik penulisan yang sesuai. Tahap kedua, yaitu sesi tanya jawab, memberikan kesempatan kepada mahasiswa untuk memperdalam pemahaman dan mengatasi kendala praktis yang sering dihadapi dalam penulisan ilmiah. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan bahwa metode pembekalan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa baru tentang penulisan artikel ilmiah. Melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan mahasiswa memiliki dasar keterampilan yang kuat untuk menghasilkan karya ilmiah berkualitas, serta mampu berkontribusi secara aktif dalam lingkungan akademik.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan permainan interaktif "Sambung Kata" sebagai strategi meningkatkan minat belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas VIII di UPT SPF SMPN 40 Makassar. Kurangnya motivasi dan minat belajar siswa, akibat pendekatan pengajaran konvensional yang tidak menarik, menjadi dasar penelitian ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah pretest-posttest dalam satu kelompok, dengan hasil menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan berbasis permainan secara signifikan meningkatkan motivasi dan pengetahuan siswa, khususnya dalam penguasaan kosakata. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pendekatan pembelajaran yang inovatif dan menyenangkan dapat memberikan hasil yang lebih baik dibandingkan metode tradisional

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the use of the KWL method in improving students' level of reading comprehension in senior high school. This research uses quantitative methods in pre-experimental classes as a research strategy. The respondents of this research were 10th-grade students of SMAN 11 Makassar in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. Respondents were selected randomly to analyze the use of the KWL method in improving students' reading comprehension levels. The instrument of this research is Pre-test, Treatment, and Post-test. Outcomes of data analysis found, that there was an effect of using the KWL method in improving the level of students' reading comprehension and students' responses to the use of the KWL method in learning reading comprehension through Pre-test, treatment, and Post-test were seen to increase. The average score of the students' Pre-test was in the "poor" category, while after the treatment, an average score for the Post-test was categorized as "good". The Post-test mean score after treatment is higher than the Pre-test mean.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Intellectual Capital and Islamicity Performance Index on the profitability of Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia with the panel data analysis method using Eviews 10. The sample is determined based on the purposive sampling method, with a total sample of 6 Islamic banks and produces 30 observation samples because it uses reports annual finances. The results of the study prove that Intellectual Capital, equitable distribution ratio and Islamic income vs. non-Islamic income ratio have no effect on profitability. while the profit sharing ratio and zakat performance ratio affect profitability. This study provides evidence that the performance of Islamic banking can be proven from various aspects, the variables used in this study are influential and some are not. The implications of this research for companies are expected to be complementary material and useful input and considerations for companies and readers are expected to see the results of this research as useful information material and can be used for the benefit of readers. This research has enormous value, it is hoped that Islamic banking can apply Islamic principles in its operational activities in this study, namely Intellectual Capital, PSR, ZPR, EDR, and IIR.

Abstract

Indonesia stands as the world's most populous Muslim nation, holding a crucial position in the realm of Islamic moderation. The richness of diversity, encompassing religion, culture, language, and customs, serves as a potential catalyst for peace when approached with an attitude of mutual respect and appreciation for differences. However, in the absence of tolerance, the specter of intolerance emerges and paves the way for acts of violence. Recognizing this delicate balance, the pivotal role of religious leaders and scholars becomes evident. They play a crucial part in fostering an understanding of religious moderation. This understanding acts as a proactive safeguard, while thwarting the escalation of intolerance and violence. Employing a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach, this study focuses on Prof. Dr. K. H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., and Madrasah Tsanawiyah Istiqlal Jakarta. The data collection involved meticulous observation, thorough documentation, and insightful interviews. The findings underscore the significance of religious leaders in imparting insights on tolerance and the value of harmonious coexistence within religious communities. In the context of MTs Istiqlal Jakarta, the results illuminate the pivotal role of the clergy in nurturing an atmosphere of understanding. This is evident in the MCB program and congregational prayers, where students are actively engaged in learning to appreciate and respect one another, embracing the beauty of diversity. This study underscores the transformative impact of religious education in shaping attitudes and mitigating the seeds of intolerance and violence within society.

Abstract

Pada era digital, kehidupan sangat bergantung dengan teknologi terutama bagi anak-anak yang memungkinkan timbulnya dampak negatif. Orang tua bertanggung jawab atas pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak dengan dapat memberikannya pendidikan yang tepat dalam keluarga. Konsep pendidikan anak dalam keluarga berdasarkan surah Luqman pada era digital akan menjadi tujuan dari penelitian. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah library research kemudian dikaji dengan teknik analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan yang diberikan pada anak harus diterapkan dengan pedoman yang tepat, yaitu Al-Qur’an yang merupakan pedoman bagi kehidupan umat Islam dimana salah satu surahnya adalah surah Luqman ayat 13-19. Surah Luqman menceritakan bagaimana seorang Luqman Al-Hakim mendidik anaknya dengan pendidikan dasar berupa pendidikan aqidah, pendidikan ibadah dan pendidikan akhlak disertai penggunaan metode yang tepat, seperti metode nasihat, metode teladan, metode dialog, metode pembiasaan serta metode pemberian reward dan punishment yang tentunya menyesuaikan zaman, namun tidak menyalahi aturan agama.
