Abstract

The field of education in modern times has advanced quickly. Learning is made easier by educators and school infrastructure. Every student's potential is still being maximized through ongoing design improvements in the teaching and learning process. This research investigates the effectiveness of the SAVI (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual) model on the students' speaking skills. The research employs true experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design, which gives a test before and after the treatment using the SAVI model. The sample of this study is two classes, namely class VA as the experimental class, totaling 30 students, and class VB as the control class, totaling 34 students. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, test, and documentation, which are analyzed with descriptive statistics. The data is analyzed using the inferential test formula (t-test). The results showed that the SAVI model was effectively used in learning students' speaking skills. It can be seen from the results of the hypothesis, namely the value of t_count  2.47 and 2.00 so that the results are accepted and rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a positive impact of the SAVI learning model on students' speaking skills. The teacher can apply this model in teaching the students whose grades are below the class average so that this method can be used in learning students' speaking skills in Indonesian subjects.

Abstract

Traditional teaching materials often rely heavily on textbooks and mid-range content, lacking integration with thematic learning models. This study explored the use of teaching materials based on the webbed-type integrated learning model for the theme of living things, in contrast to the traditional use of mid-range materials and textbooks. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of these integrated materials on students' essay-writing skills. A quantitative experimental design was employed, involving a sample of 22 students selected through total sampling. The findings revealed that the webbed learning model significantly improved students' essay writing abilities, as evidenced by higher post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. Consequently, it can be concluded that webbed-type integrated teaching materials positively impact thematic lessons on the theme of living things and serve as a valuable resource for educators in enhancing the thematic learning process.

Abstract

The integration of instant messaging services into educational settings has become increasingly prevalent, providing unique opportunities for enhanced communication and learning. This study aimed to examine the viewpoints of educators and students regarding the use of instant messaging services, such as WhatsApp, in their translation education and instruction. The study employed a qualitative research approach, specifically content analysis, to examine the utterances of two translation lecturers and fifteen ESP students. The results revealed that participants unanimously agreed that instant messaging services facilitated their teaching and learning of translation by using consistent terminology and rephrasing complex tasks to provide guidance throughout the chat. This approach enriched the translation understanding of ESP students. The study suggests using one consistent term to refer to the translation process throughout the text. In conclusion, chatting applications like WhatsApp are powerful and efficient communication tools that can facilitate an engaging, authentic, and meaningful learning experience when effectively included in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classrooms for online translation interactions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of an integrated approach in preparing learning plans for Indonesian language subjects at the senior high school level. The research method was qualitative in the form of a case study carried out at some schools in Makassar. The subjects of this research were Indonesian language teachers who were determined purposively. Data collection methods were observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using (1) reduction, (2) presentation, and (3) verification techniques. The findings show that empowering the integrated approach always begins, and this was dominated by the speaking aspect rather than the other skills such as reading, writing, and listening skills. On the other hand, linguistic aspects are least programmed by Indonesian language teachers. Linguistic aspects are never combined with literature, even though it is very interesting to teach at the high school level on a multi-ethnic basis. It can be concluded that the Indonesian language is taught by using an integrated approach, which can reshape the students’ speaking competency. This approach is implemented in the lesson plan to enhance the Indonesian learning process.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using endophytic bacteria from wild plants in the biological control of Fusarium Wilt disease on tomato plants and to find out which isolate method is best for controlling Fusarium Wilt disease on tomato plants. The research was carried out at the Plant Protection Laboratory, Phytopathology Unit, and Experimental Garden Greenhouse 1, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University, Kendari, from September to November 2022. This research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 5 treatments repeated 3 times for a total of 15 treatment units. The variables observed were divided into 2, namely vegetative plant growth (plant height, number of leaves, and number of productive branches) and the incidence of Fusarium Wilt disease on tomato plants. The data was analyzed using variance and if there was a real influence, it was continued with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a confidence level of 95%. The results of the research showed that endophytic bacteria from wild plants were able to increase plant growth and control Fusarium Wilt disease in tomato plants and ASR-3(2) isolate was the best isolate in increasing plant growth and controlling Fusarium Wilt disease.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of giving Bacillus subtilis concentrations on caffeine levels and the physicochemistry of Arabica coffee beans. This study used a Complete Randomized Design (RAL) where the concentration of B. subtilis was 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%. Variables observed in this study included total plate numbers (ALT), total titrated acid (TAT) and pH, as well as arabica coffee bean tests (water and caffeine content). The results of this study show that B. subtilis affects ALT, TAT, pH, water content and caffeine content of fermented liquid in arabica coffee beans. The lowest caffeine content of arabica coffee beans is made from arabica coffee beans added 5% B. subtilis during fermentation with a caffeine content of 1.34%.
