Abstract

The quality of education in public elementary schools is influenced by leadership effectiveness, professional guidance for teachers, and teachers’ competence in managing learning. In East Ungaran District, variations in school performance indicate the need to identify key factors affecting educational quality. This study aims to analyze the influence of the principal’s transformational leadership, academic supervision, and teachers’ pedagogical competence on educational quality. A quantitative approach with a causal survey design was used, involving 148 teachers selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings show that transformational leadership, academic supervision, and pedagogical competence each have a positive and significant effect on educational quality, both partially and simultaneously. Transformational leadership has the strongest influence among the three variables. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.562 indicates that 56.2% of the variation in educational quality is explained by these factors. The study concludes that strengthening visionary leadership, systematic supervision, and pedagogical capacity is essential to create a collaborative and sustainable quality-oriented school environment.

Abstract

The quality of education in Vocational High Schools (SMK) is strongly influenced by teachers’ pedagogical competence, especially in the industry 4.0 era which requires continuous competence development through systematic human resource management. This study aims to analyze the management of pedagogical competence development of teachers at SMK Muhammadiyah Pondok Pesantren Imam Syuhodo, covering the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach and descriptive analytical method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving principals, management teams, and teachers. Data validity was tested through source and technique triangulation, and analysis used the Miles Huberman model. The results show that pedagogical competence development is managed through: (1) planning based on supervision, self-evaluation, and student feedback aligned with the school’s vision; (2) implementation via In House Training, workshops, MGMP, lesson study, mentoring, and industry internships supported by the principal’s role as supervisor and motivator; and (3) evaluation through classroom supervision, performance assessment, peer observation, and feedback from students, alumni, and industry. Success is supported by strong management, collaborative professional learning communities, and program relevance to business and industrial needs. The study concludes that systematic and continuous human resource management effectively enhances teachers’ pedagogical quality, integrates Islamic values in learning, and produces competent, Islamic-charactered graduates, serving as a model for other vocational schools.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to actualize the role of university students in Islamic preaching (dakwah) to empower rural communities with limited access to religious education. The activity was conducted in Gerdu Village, Karangpandan Sub-district, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, using a qualitative approach and the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. This method allowed students and community members to be actively involved in identifying religious issues, designing solutions, and collaboratively implementing sustainable programs. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The program consisted of various Islamic educational activities such as children’s Quran classes (TPA), women’s religious studies, Quran recitation improvement (tahsin), Islamic storytelling, educational outbound games, and health counseling. The results showed increased community participation in religious activities and the emergence of collective awareness to uphold Islamic values in daily life. The students also gained valuable hands-on experience in delivering contextual and applicable religious guidance. These findings indicate that the participatory community-based dakwah model is effective in rural settings and can be replicated in other areas with similar social characteristics.

Abstract

The integration of information technology in education has become increasingly critical in the digital era, particularly for enhancing pedagogical effectiveness. YouTube, as the world's most prominent video-sharing platform, has emerged as a significant educational tool across diverse disciplines, including Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Despite providing global access to extensive educational content, substantial challenges persist in its pedagogical implementation, particularly regarding inadequate digital literacy among Indonesian secondary school students. This study investigates the utilization of YouTube as an instructional medium for developing critical thinking skills in PAI learning contexts. Employing a qualitative case study design, this research collected data through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving PAI teachers and students from multiple Indonesian high schools. Findings reveal that while YouTube offers diverse educational content with potential to foster critical thinking development, the majority of students engage in passive consumption patterns, lacking analytical depth in processing presented material. Although interactive features, including comment sections, content sharing, and subscription mechanisms, demonstrate potential for promoting deeper cognitive engagement, their educational benefits remain underutilized. The study identifies two principal barriers to effective YouTube integration: insufficient student digital literacy and inconsistent content quality. These findings contribute to the emerging scholarship on digital platform utilization in religious education and provide empirical evidence for enhancing critical thinking pedagogy through technology-mediated instruction in Indonesian educational contexts.

Abstract

The implementation of global curricula in Islamic schools faces challenges, as some teachers and students have not yet been able to adapt optimally . This study examines the integration of the Cambridge Curriculum at SMA ABBS Surakarta, focusing on planning, implementation, evaluation, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors. Employing a qualitative field research design with a phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects included the principal, vice principal for curriculum, teachers, and students. The findings reveal that successful implementation of the Cambridge Curriculum in this Islamic school is supported by three main pillars. First, the readiness of human resources, built through tiered training programs and international certification, with teachers required to have at least CEFR B2 English competency. Second, the adoption of innovative learning methods, particularly student-centered learning, practical activities, and authentic assessments that align with Cambridge International standards. Third, adequate infrastructure that meets international benchmarks, thereby facilitating effective curriculum delivery. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the application of the Cambridge Curriculum within an Islamic school context, which remains relatively rare in Indonesia. The research contributes to the broader discourse on curriculum globalization by highlighting how Islamic schools can integrate international standards while maintaining their religious identity. Practically, the study implies the need to strengthen teacher competencies, sustain infrastructure support, and develop adaptive learning strategies to ensure broader success in similar institutions.

Abstract

Al-Qur'an in the view of Muslims, is a way of life. Verse after verse has a very deep meaning and content beyond the famous poets though. Thus, Muslims need to understand the contents of the Qur'an so that they can be contemplated and practised. One Day One Verse (ODOV) has an important role in increasing the understanding of students at Dea Malela Modern International Islamic Boarding School. One Day One Verse is one of PMI Dea Malela's flagship programs because it is quite different from other programs such as the tahfidz program and the like. The purpose is that students (male and female) can memorize, understand, recite, and apply One Day One Verse. The research method presented is a case study method combined with various related references. Thus, this research includes descriptive research, which focuses on a systematic explanation of the facts obtained when it was conducted. The research subjects were students by conducting interviews and direct observation of activities. The results showed that PMI Dea Malela’s students strongly supported this activity because they felt it had a positive impact on their understanding of the al-Qur’an. Applicatively, some of the verses that have been memorized have been practised in everyday life.

Abstract

This article analyzes Ahmad Khan's educational thought as part of the epistemological reform project in Islamic education in the 19th-century colonial context. Using a literature review approach, this article explores the social background, philosophical foundations, epistemology, methodological goals, and criticisms and limitations of the educational reform initiated by Khan. The results show that Ahmad Khan's educational thinking cannot be reduced to a form of westernization or a pragmatic response to British colonialism. Khan's thinking is rooted in an internal critique of the intellectual stagnation of Muslims triggered by the dichotomy of knowledge, the dominance of taqlid, and the reduction of education to a means of doctrinal transmission. Through the integration of revelation and reason, Ahmad Khan shifted the conflict between religion and science from the theological realm to the methodological, thus opening space for affirming scientific rationality without discarding the role of revelation as a moral and spiritual orientation. However, this article also emphasizes that Khan's integration remains transitional and problematic, due to the lack of a strict methodological framework for defining the limits of intellectual authority and the social limitations on its implementation. Thus, the main contribution of Khan's educational thought lies in opening the crustacean shell for the development of modern Islamic education, not in the order of the final educational model itself, which is ready to be implemented.
