Abstract

This study addresses low mathematical understanding and self-confidence among elementary school students in mathematics learning. Conventional instructional methods often lack engagement and fail to effectively support students' motivation and conceptual development. This research examines the effectiveness of combining the drill method with a game-based learning (GBL) approach to improve students' mathematical understanding and self-confidence. A quasi-experimental design was employed involving sixth-grade students from two elementary schools. The findings reveal that students who learned through the drill method integrated with game-based learning demonstrated significantly higher levels of mathematical understanding and self-confidence compared to those taught through conventional methods. Improvements in both cognitive and affective dimensions were more evident in the experimental group. These results indicate that integrating drill practices with game-based learning creates a more engaging learning environment and effectively enhances students' comprehension and confidence in mathematics. The study highlights the potential of interactive learning approaches as an innovative strategy to strengthen mathematics learning at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aims to explore innovation in mathematics learning through the application of the design thinking approach to support students' mathematical creative thinking skills. The research employed an exploratory mixed-method approach based on the design thinking framework, focusing on the empathize, define, and ideate stages. The study involved 160 students and 11 mathematics teachers from four madrasahs in Kendal Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews and analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis supported by triangulation techniques. In addition, a meta-analysis of 11 relevant studies was conducted using the OpenMEE application to examine the effectiveness of several proposed learning solutions. The results of the empathize stage showed that 67% of students had positive emotional responses toward mathematics learning, while 65% experienced difficulties in remembering formulas and 57.5% had difficulty understanding mathematical concepts. At the define stage, the main problems identified were students’ difficulties in understanding abstract mathematical concepts, low learning motivation, and the need for more interactive and differentiated learning approaches. The ideate stage generated several potential solutions, including the development of differentiated learning supported by interactive media such as H5P and Edpuzzle as well as the implementation of the REACT learning model. The meta-analysis results indicated a large and statistically significant effect of these learning innovations on improving students' mathematical abilities, with an estimated effect size of 1.683 (p < 0.001; 95% CI = 1.022–2.345). These findings suggest that integrating design thinking with evidence-based learning innovations can provide effective strategies for improving students’ mathematical creative thinking skills and creating more interactive and student-centered mathematics learning environments.

Abstract

Community empowerment in the digital age requires an approach that is not only oriented towards economic capacity building, but also the strengthening of social and religious values within the community. This article aims to analyse the implementation of community empowerment programmes in Sukajadi Timur Sub-District through the integration of digital literacy and religious social activities as a community-based development model. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a participatory design involving MSME actors, youth, community leaders, and local residents as research subjects. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, activity documentation, and reflective discussions, then analysed using thematic analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that digital literacy training improves the online marketing capabilities of MSMEs, broadens teenagers' understanding of digital ethics, and increases the community's confidence in utilising technology. On the other hand, religious social activities strengthen social cohesion, community participation, and value stability in the face of digital change. The integration of these two aspects produces a multidimensional empowerment model, covering simultaneous economic, social, and moral capacity building, and has the potential to become a sustainable empowerment strategy at the village level.

Abstract

Understanding of geometric concepts, especially those related to the Pythagorean theorem, is often an obstacle for students. This study aims to develop a hypothetical learning trajectory for the Pythagorean theorem material using the Javanese Ethno-Realistic Mathematics Education (E-RME) approach. The research was conducted using the design research method, which includes three main stages: initial design, implementation of learning experiments, and retrospective analysis. This research involved grade VIII students in one of the junior high schools in the city of Semarang. The focus of this study is on the initial design stage, resulted a learning trajectory hypothesis which includes three main activities: (1) observing the video context of the Joglo house to determine the type of triangle based on the size of its angles and the concept of special triangles; (2) discovering the concept of the Pythagorean theorem and determining the types of triangles based on the length of their sides; (3) applying the Pythagorean theorem. This learning trajectory hypothesis is worth testing at the experimental stage of learning to help students develop a deeper understanding of the concepts underlying the Pythagorean theorem, while simultaneously fostering an appreciation of local culture and diversity in mathematical thinking through E-RME.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low spatial thinking ability of junior high school students in geometry, especially in visualizing three-dimensional objects and mental manipulation. The focus of the problem is directed at an in-depth analysis of students' spatial thinking processes when solving geometry problems based on the cultural context of the Great Mosque of Demak in terms of Van Hiele's theory. The research method applied is descriptive qualitative through purposive sampling of students who have been previously categorized. The research stages include a geometry ability test on twenty-one students, working on culture-based problems, and semi-structured interview observations. The identification results show eight students with low abilities, eleven with medium abilities, and two with high abilities. The findings reveal significant variations at each cognitive level. Low-ability students were only able to reach the basic visualization stage and experienced obstacles in the aspects of relations and transformation. Medium-ability students showed adequate mastery of visualization and orientation, but were not optimal in reasoning and reflection. In contrast, high-ability students managed to master all spatial indicators comprehensively and optimally. These findings confirm that the level of Van Hiele's geometry ability has a crucial influence on the development of spatial thinking processes in the context of local ethnomathematics. The main conclusion is that the integration of cultural context is able to reveal the depth of mental representation, so that geometric ability becomes the main predictor of success in solving spatial problems logically through a deep and measurable cultural approach in secondary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of implementing digital administration through the Smart Hida (Cashless System) at the Alhidayah Kalisari Islamic Boarding School.  feature expansion, a qualitative method with a participatory case study approach. Data collection was carried out from April 16 to 24, 2026, through observation and in-depth interviews with the central treasurer and administrative members. The results showed that the digitalization of financial transactions had a significant positive impact. The cashless system effectively minimizes student indiscipline, as the absence of physical cash eliminates their motivation to buy snacks outside the boarding school without permission. For parents, this system provides transparency and daily control over their children's expenses, eliminating the need to physically visit the school to pay fees. From the management side, the manual administrative burden previously done in physical books is replaced by an automatic database and a top-up system. Furthermore, the integration of 30 internal merchants with a mutually agreed maintenance fee system creates a sustainable business ecosystem. However, this implementation faces challenges regarding users' digital literacy, so feature expansion needs to be done gradually.
