Abstract

This study aims to analyze the leadership model of Dedi Iskandar Batubara at the North Sumatra Regional Board of Al-Washliyah, characterized by an accelerative and transformative vision within the framework of Islamic political thought. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the research subject and key informants. The findings indicate that Batubara’s leadership is grounded in a spiritual philosophy that construes his position as a sacred trust (amanah) and an act of worship (ibadah), compelling him to drive innovation and systematic improvements. His leadership model is democratic, transparent, and humanistic, consistently implementing Islamic political principles such as consultation (syura) and trustworthiness (amanah) in all decision-making and organizational management processes. He has also successfully addressed internal challenges, including political diversity and intergenerational dynamics, by upholding the principle of independence and prioritizing cadre regeneration. This accelerative and transformative vision has not only yielded significant advancements in the fields of Islamic propagation (da’wah), education, and asset management but has also enhanced Al-Washliyah’s public credibility. This study concludes that Dedi Iskandar Batubara’s leadership exemplifies an effective model of how a leader can balance Islamic idealism with the demands of modernity to ensure the organization’s sustainability and relevance in the contemporary era.

Abstract

The concept of wasaṭiyyah in Islam is a central issue relevant in responding to contemporary religious extremism phenomena such as radicalism, intolerance, and religion-based violence. Muḥammad ‘Abduh’s Tafsīr al-Manār, continued by Rasyīd Riḍā, presents rational-reformist thinking that emphasizes balance, justice, and openness, so that it can be positioned as a theoretical and practical framework for understanding Islamic moderation. This study aims to examine the idea of wasaṭiyyah in Tafsīr al-Manār and outline its contribution to addressing contemporary religious extremism. The method used is a qualitative approach with a literature study approach through content analysis of the tafsir text and related literature. The results of this study indicate that the concept of wasaṭiyyah in Tafsīr al-Manār is built on three foundations: a rational understanding of the revealed text while taking into account the social context, an emphasis on social justice and human brotherhood, and a rejection of both excessive attitudes (ifrāṭ) and neglect (tafrīṭ) in religion. The relevance of this concept is evident in its ability to correct the ideology of takfir, encourage interfaith dialogue, strengthen national commitment, and affirm Islam as a religion that aligns with universal humanitarian values. This study contributes by offering a new perspective on interpretation-based counter-extremism, which makes wasaṭiyyah not only a theological idea, but also a strategic, practical paradigm in affirming Islamic moderation amidst global challenges.

Abstract

The pervasive integration of artificial intelligence (AI) necessitates continuous human innovation and adaptation to ensure the societal relevance of AI. Within education, particularly in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), leveraging AI is crucial for modernizing learning approaches. This study critically examines the application of AI innovations in IRE, specifically when they diverge from the core principles of literacy. Employing a systematic literature review, we meticulously gathered articles from Scopus and Google Scholar using Publish or Perish, subsequently screening and analyzing them according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. This process yielded 28 relevant articles for review. The findings suggest that the sustained and consistent use of AI in IRE learning environments may potentially undermine human critical thinking skills. Consequently, fostering habits of reading and engaging in robust discussions emerges as a vital solution to preserve and enhance individual cognitive abilities. This research contributes comprehensive insights into the utilization of AI innovations in IRE pedagogy over the past five years, offering a timely critique and guiding future educational practices.

Abstract

Halal tourism is increasingly recognized as a strategic sector in the global travel industry, particularly in regions that integrate Islamic values with community-based development. In Aceh Province, where Islamic law is formally applied, the potential of gampong (village)-based halal tourism is substantial but faces persistent structural challenges. This study aims to identify key obstacles to its development and provide policy insights for sustainable growth. A mixed-methods case study was conducted through literature review and in-depth interviews with stakeholders, including the Aceh Tourism Office, DPR Aceh, MPU, academics, business actors, and local communities. The Analytic Network Process (ANP) was employed to prioritize issues using pairwise comparison questionnaires. The findings indicate three major barriers. First, from the regulatory aspect, the absence of standardized halal tourism guidelines is the most critical challenge (33.27%). Second, under destination factors, inadequate infrastructure and accessibility represent the dominant issue (33.71%). Third, on the social side, limited government support, weak promotion, and neglected historical sites remain significant obstacles (23.99%). These results highlight the urgent need for cross-sector collaboration, improved infrastructure, and inclusive promotional strategies. Strengthening local stakeholder capacity is essential to accelerate sustainable halal tourism and support the Islamic economy in rural Aceh.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a strategic component in ensuring the effectiveness of the learning process and the achievement of educational goals. This study aims to examine the influence of organizational culture, communication, discipline, and competence on teacher performance and its impact on teacher achievement. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Kelapa, Bangka Barat Regency, using a quantitative approach with an associative-causal design. The population consisted of 42 teachers, selected through a census method. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through multiple and simple linear regression using SPSS version 24.0. The findings reveal that all four independent variables—organizational culture, communication, discipline, and competence—have a simultaneous and significant effect on teacher performance, with an adjusted R² value of 0.701. Each variable also has a significant partial effect, with competence emerging as the most dominant factor. Furthermore, teacher performance has a positive and significant influence on teacher achievement, with an adjusted R² value of 0.586. These results indicate that the improvement of teacher achievement is highly dependent on performance quality, which is shaped by the synergy between organizational and individual factors. The study implies that enhancing teacher achievement requires strengthening inclusive organizational culture, fostering effective communication, reinforcing discipline through professional awareness, and continuously developing teacher competence to support optimal and sustainable performance.

Abstract

Gili Gede hosts a vital mangrove ecosystem, essential for the community and protecting coastal areas from large waves. However, increasing development and human activities in and around the mangrove areas threaten their distribution and extent. This study aims to map the spatial distribution, density, and area of mangroves on Gili Gede. Sentinel-2A satellite imagery was utilized with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method, and the image data were validated using hemispherical photography. Environmental parameters measured included sediment salinity, temperature, pH, humidity, NPK nutrients, and substrate type. Additional data were gathered on slope, buffer distances, and through semi-structured interviews using purposive sampling. The findings revealed that the mangrove density on Gili Gede is predominantly sparse, covering 15.56 hectares or 77.07% of the total mangrove area. Medium-density mangroves span 3.45 hectares or 17.09%, while dense mangroves occupy the smallest area, 1.18 hectares or 5.84%. Mangroves are distributed across the northern, western, and eastern sides of Gili Gede. The study identified 22 species of mangroves, both true and associated, across 14 families. Environmental factors influencing the distribution, density, and extent of mangroves across three locations include sediment salinity, temperature, pH, humidity, and nutrient content (NPK), as well as substrate type, slope, and anthropogenic influences such as human activities and the proximity of settlements to the mangrove ecosystem.
