Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus which damages immune system in the human body that can lead to death. The virus can be transmitted by sexual activity. Evidence shows that HIV prevalence among sex workers is 12 times greater than among the general population. Bunga Seroja Community is a social community consists of female sex workers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This community arranges programs to promote health of female commercial sex workers to prevent HIV/AIDS including health education, psychosocial support, routine health check-up, and many other activities. Scientific study is needed to see the correlation between the knowledge of female commercial sex workers, who have been exposed regularly with positive environment (Bunga Seroja Community), with their behaviour to prevent HIV/AIDS infection.A descriptive correlation study, involving 36 female commercial sex workers was taken place at Bunga Seroja Community in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Questionnaires consisted of 21 questions of information regarding HIV/AIDS and 20 questions to find out the respondents’ behaviour in preventing HIV infection were used. The data were then analyzed by using Kendall Tau statistical analysis. The study revealed that most respondents had high level of knowledge (77.8%) and positive behaviour regarding prevention of HIV infection (88.9%).Kendall Tau analysis showed the coefficient value of correlation was 0.663 (p<.05). It shows that there is strong correlation between the level of knowledge of the female commercial sex workers in Bunga Seroja Community with their behaviour in preventing HIV infection. Keywords: HIV, AIDS, knowledge, behaviour.

Abstract

The development of the marine tourism sector in conservation areas creates a dilemma in its management. When economic interests are prioritized, it will have a negative impact on ecological aspects, so it is necessary to have a balance between environmental conservation activities and tourist activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design a sustainable tourist allocation management model in conservation areas and the optimal economic value of each dive tourism site. The results of the analysis of the carrying capacity of the area per dive location point are then analyzed using dynamic models to predict the growth in tourism demand and supply, so that the economic value of each dive tourism site can be known. The results of the analysis show that not all conservation areas are suitable for diving tourism sites and appropriate locations have varying carrying capacities, depending on the area of the area. The number of offers from each dive tourism location some are more than the capacity and some are still below the capacity, so that in order to achieve sustainable diving tourism management, the allocation of requests is carried out proportionally and does not exceed the level of the area's carrying capacity (supply).

Abstract

Miang Island has potential coral reef resources that can be used for marine ecotourism of diving and snorkeling, but there has not been any related study yet. This study aims to analyze the condition of coral reef resources, analyze the suitability and carrying capacity of the area for ecotourism and develop a strategy for developing diving and snorkeling ecotourism on Miang Island. The method being used for coral reef data collection by Underwater Photo Transect and reef fish using the Underwater Visual Census method. To develop the strategy of developing ecotourism is analyzed by using the Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) method. The results showed that the condition of coral reefs on Miang Island was in the moderate category with 40% live coral coverage. The area that can be used for snorkeling tours is 24.39 ha with a carrying capacity of 976 tourist visits/day. Meanwhile, the area that can be used for diving tourism is 13.40 ha with the ability to receive visitation of 536 tourist visits/day. Based on these conditions, the ecotourism development strategy is formulated that protects and utilizes coral reef ecosystems as sustainable tourism objects, facilitates access to development capital, makes a consistent policy, and coordinates between related agencies.

Abstract

Ciletuh Bay has a natural magnificence that attracts local and foreign tourists. Tourist interest was reflected by the many visits demanding the government manage it properly to achieve social, economic, and ecological sustainability. Research on the assessment of cultural ecosystem services in Ciletuh Bay has not been carried out. At the same time, this is necessary for policymakers to maintain sustainable Ciletuh Bay coastal ecotourism. This study aims to estimate the value of cultural ecosystem services in Ciletuh Bay in two ways. The first method is assessing the balance of supply and demand for cultural ecosystem services that adopt the Burkhard Model, namely through individual preferences for the beauty of several types of landscapes in Ciletuh Bay. The second assessment is an economic valuation using the travel cost method (TCM). The results showed that the balance of supply and demand for cultural ecosystem services in Ciletuh Bay contained several types of landscapes in unstable conditions. The economic value of Ciletuh Bay coastal ecotourism is IDR 862,640,124,311.00/year or IDR 77,911,861.00/ha/year.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the suitability and carrying capacity of coastal areas in the Clungup Mangrove Conservation (CMC) Malang Regency, East Java for coastal tourism activities such as beach recreation, mangrove tourism, snorkeling, and fishing. This research was conducted from August to October 2020 through a survey with an observative approach to obtain primary data, while secondary data was obtained from area managers as supporting data. The carrying capacity of the area for beach tourism activities is 3,234 people/day, mangrove tourism is 6,675 people/day, diving tours are 684 people/day, and snorkeling is 59 people/day. As for fishing activities, this area can accommodate 553 people/day, Canoeing 20,025 people/day, and camping 120 people/day. The number of tourists in the CMC area is still below its carrying capacity. The management of the number of tourists that are currently controlled is considered appropriate and follows the carrying capacity of the environment. However, the potential for the area to be developed closer to its carrying capacity is still possible. Increased tourist visits will provide economic benefits for the community and business actors who support tourism around the CMC area, causing an economic multiplier effect.
