Abstract

This study aims to find out the history of visiting Simeulue, the visiting procession the Lambaya Village with Sanggiran Village, the role of the community in preserving visiting traditions and the benefits of visiting the people of Lambaya Village with Sanggiran Village. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that visiting procession is a visit activity carried out by a group of individuals, organizations or communities by way of deliberations with citizens, communicating, and preparing all the necessities and interests of visiting activities. This visit is led by the highest person in the village or someone who is trusted as the leader of the activity group. The role and benefits of the community to preserve the tradition of visiting is that the community continues to maintain, apply, maintain and develop traditions and cultural values so that visiting can strengthen harmony in daily life. In addition, by visiting them they can get new experiences, find out weaknesses, lack of organization, keep them away from enmity, get new families and most importantly get knowledge that they have not yet gotten.

Abstract

Rapa’i dabôh is a traditional art played by 12 people accompanied with risky attractions using sharp objects namely knife, sword, chainsaw, chain, sharpened bamboo and many else. The aim of this study is to find out the history of rapa’i dabôh in Aceh. The instruments used in this research are observation, interview and documentation. Techniques of data analysis are data reduction, data display and data verification/conclusion. The study revealed that the history of rapa’i dabôh in Aceh was from a prominent ulama named Syekh Abdul Qadir Jailani inherited by Syekh Rafa’i, popularly recognised later as Tarekat Rifa’iyyah. Rapa’i dabôh was early formerly used as media for preaching the Islamic teaching, but later it developed into an art fancied by most the Acehnese people. The spread of rapa’i dabôh was carried by the preachers from north-eastern to southwest-southern part of Aceh, then it inspired many groups of performance such as Rincong Pusaka at Ie Lhop village, Tangan-Tangan, Southwest Aceh and Putra Naga at Mutiara village, Sawang, South Aceh. Both groups still exist until today.

Abstract

During the Dutch colonial period in Aceh, the social structure of society was reflected in the bureaucratic system of government of the king, ulama, uleebalang, and other bureaucratic apparatus. Of the several rulers in Aceh, the main base in opposing the Dutch were the ulama because the ulama played a very large role in the lives of the Acehnese people. Snouck is a prominent Western scientist and also a very influential actor in breaking the power of the ulama during the Dutch colonial period in Aceh. The results of the study show that Snouck’s points of view on the Acehnese clerics are the ulama as an obstacle to the submission of Aceh's sovereignty to the Dutch, the ulama as a spiritual driving force in defending Aceh and its people and the Acehnese clerics are not easy to be deceived even though they prioritize Islam alone. The roles played by Snouck in quelling the struggle of the Acehnese people, namely approaching the ulama to invite peace with the Dutch, the uleebalang approach to cooperate in the fields of Dutch government, education, economics and religion. Placing trading centers in Ulhee Lheue and Kutaraja so that the Acehnese people can carry out their trade more easily. Based on the pacification policy of the Dutch government and supported by Snouck’s ideas, advised the Governor of the Dutch military that there should be no more violence against the Acehnese people. This shows good intentions by building mosques, repairing roads, irrigation, and helping with social work in the lives of the Acehnese.

Abstract

Pergeseran budaya yang terjadi ditengah masyarakat Banda Aceh yang dulunya disebut sebagai warung kopi (keude kuphi) dimana mayoritas didalamnya adalah laki-laki, dimana sekarang sudah berubah menjadi coffee shop yang pengunjungnya didominasi oleh perempuan yang menghabiskan waktu dengan berkumpul di coffee shop. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana akses perempuan terhadap coffee shop di Banda Aceh, konsep coffee shop yang ramah terhadap perempuan, dan persepsi masyarakat terhadap keberadaan perempuan di coffee shop. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa akses perempuan terhadap coffee shop di Banda Aceh telah diterima, akan tetapi kehadiran mereka masih disertai dengan kondisi-kondisi terkait soal waktu kunjungan tidak sampai larut malam kecuali mereka berhadir bersama suami atau keluarga dan pakaian yang di gunakan harus sesuai dengan Syariat Islam tidak menampakkan aurat. Konsep coffee shop ramah terhadap perempuan yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk bekerja, membaca, dan produktivitas seperti tempat yang memiliki desain modern. Coffee shop menjadi tempat favorit bagi perempuan di kota-kota besar. Persepsi masyarakat di Banda Aceh terhadap keberadaan perempuan di warung kopi maupun di Coffee shop memiliki 2 pandangan yang berbeda, sebagian mengatakan baik dan sebagaian lagi mengatakan tidak baik.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The cultural shift that occurred among the people of Banda Aceh which used to be called a coffee shop (keude kuphi) where the majority of people inside were men, has now changed to a coffee shop where more female visitors spend their time gathering in the coffee shop. This research examines women's access to coffee shops in Banda Aceh, the concept of women-friendly coffee shops, and the public's perception of the presence of women in coffee shops. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with the types of instruments used are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research state that women's access to coffee shops in Banda Aceh has been accepted, however their presence is still accompanied by conditions related to visiting times not until late at night unless they are present with their husband or family and the clothes they wear must comply with Sharia. Islam does not reveal the nakedness. The coffee shop concept is friendly to women which can be used for work, reading and productivity like a place that has a modern design. Coffee shops are a favorite place for women in big cities. The perception of the people in Banda Aceh regarding the presence of women in coffee shops and coffee shops has 2 different views, some say it is good and some say it is not good.
