Abstract

Fierce competition in the healthcare industry requires service providers, including clinics, to prioritize service quality that is integrated with Islamic ethical values. Healthcare in Islam is viewed as the implementation of humanitarian values and worship, which must be based on the principles of Shiddiq, Amanah, Fathanah, and Tabligh (SAFT). This study aims to identify Dalwa Medical Clinic's service strategies and analyze their effectiveness in improving service quality based on the Islamic economic perspective. The study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive field research, where primary data is obtained through in-depth interviews with leaders, staff, and patients. The results show that the clinic's strategies, which focus on the quality of facilities, human resources, and patient relations, are in line with the principles of Shiddiq, Amanah, Fathanah, and Tabligh. However, significant obstacles were found in terms of operational efficiency, namely long waiting times at the pharmacy due to limited human resources. This gap indicates the need for managerial improvements to achieve the principle of Justice ('Adl) in service. The clinic's strategy is generally in line with Islamic ethics, but its effectiveness is not yet optimal, and improvements in human resource allocation and a more formal SOP structure are recommended.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability (MPSA) is an important competence that supports the development of higher-order thinking skills. However, research shows that students’ MPSA remains low, partly due to the lack of valid and reliable test instruments. This study aims to develop a MPSA test instrument in the form of essay questions on the content of algebraic forms, equations, and linear inequalities in one variable for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 13 Pekanbaru. The method used is development research with the Tessmer model, covering the preliminary and formative evaluation stages. The preliminary results indicate that mathematics learning in schools remains dominated by routine, result-oriented questions, while MPSA practice remains limited. Curriculum analysis indicates that the content of phase D algebra requires solving contextual problems, so the instrument was designed to measure the ability to understand problems, plan strategies, solve them, and interpret answers. The design phase produced Prototype I, consisting of 16 essay questions based on MPSA indicators and everyday contexts. Formative evaluation included self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field tests. Self-evaluation and expert review showed that the instrument was highly valid (average score: 86.20%), with revisions to language, wording, illustrations, and instructions. One-to-one and small group tests produced Prototype II, which was then refined into Prototype III. Field testing with 37 students showed that 15 of 16 items were valid and reliable (coefficient 0.91 for package I; 0.85 for package II) and had good difficulty and discrimination levels, while one item was removed. Thus, the developed instrument is valid, reliable, and feasible for measuring students’ mathematical problem-solving ability.

Abstract

Exponents constitute a fundamental concept essential for understanding advanced mathematical topics such as logarithms, geometric sequences, and compound interest. However, many students continue to experience difficulties in solving exponent-related problems. This qualitative descriptive study aims to analyze the types of errors made by tenth-grade students when solving exponent problems using Newman’s procedure and to investigate the factors contributing to these errors. The participants were 23 students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Insan Cendekia Siak in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through written tests and interviews, then analyzed by organizing and categorizing students’ errors according to Newman’s five stages. The results show that 12% of students committed reading errors due to inaccuracies in interpreting the questions, while no comprehension errors were identified. Transformation errors were the most common (49%), primarily due to students’ difficulties in constructing appropriate mathematical models. Process skill errors accounted for 21%, primarily due to computational mistakes, and encoding errors represented 18%, arising from students’ inability to use the provided information effectively. These findings deepen the understanding of students’ patterns of error in exponent problems and imply the need for more targeted instructional strategies, especially those that strengthen mathematical modeling and procedural accuracy.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of mathematical representation ability. The results of the field study indicate that students' mathematical representation ability falls in the low category because they are not given the opportunity to develop their representations during the mathematics learning process. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the Kampar culture-based Problem Based Learning model to improve students' mathematical representation ability. The Kampar culture used is traditional Kampar clothing, traditional Kampar games, traditional Kampar musical instruments, and traditional Kampar food. The study population is all students of SMA N in Bangkinang City; the sample of this study is grade X students of SMA N 2 Bangkinang City. The data collection technique used is the test technique. The data analysis techniques used are the normality test, the homogeneity test, the t-test, and the one-way ANOVA. The results of the study indicate that there is effectiveness in applying the Kampar culture-based PBL model to mathematical representation ability viewed from the overall students, and there is effectiveness in applying the Kampar culture-based PBL model to mathematical representation ability viewed from the level of students' abilities.
