Abstract

The Arabic language is often perceived by some individuals as inherently tied to Islamic teachings, creating a misconception that deters non-Muslims from engaging with it academically. This study addressed this issue by exploring how non-Muslim students constructed their religious identity and developed adaptation strategies while learning Arabic at State Islamic Religious Universities in Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative phenomenological approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with five Christian students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra in Medan, and analyzing it using the ATLAS.ti application. The findings revealed that students maintained a strong and unaffected sense of religious identity, as they viewed Arabic not as a spiritual language but as a neutral, international means of communication. Participants adopted various adaptation strategies, such as framing Arabic as knowledge rather than belief, engaging in conformity, experiencing minority privilege, employing peer learning, utilizing environmental resources for knowledge, and reinforcing religious practices within the family. These strategies highlight the dynamic interplay between identity, belief, and academic engagement in a religious educational context, offering new insights into inclusive language learning environments in Islamic institutions.

Abstract

Water management is one of the most challenging aspects of campus management. With a large number on campus population and limited water resources, water management is essential for achieving a resilient and healthy campus. In this paper, we explain two targets in UGM water management: water efficiency and water conservation. Both objectives are significantly related; however, each goal has a different approach to the method for the design approach and strategies in the implementations. Water efficiency is included in building new buildings and retrofitting the existing ones. Meanwhile, water conservation is implemented to calculate potential alternative water resources in UGM, including water treatment, to produce freshwater as an additional water supply. We also explain how water management is implemented in UGM from the highest Directorate to the lowest units. Through our method and best practices in UGM, we hope our paper could be a reference for other universities who want to implement a water management program.

Abstract

Cardiorespiratory endurance is the maximum capacity of using oxygen which can be influenced by Hb and BMI levels, so it does not get tired easily after doing activities. Students tend to have unbalanced Hb and BMI. This study aims to determine the relationship of BMI and hemoglobin levels with cardiorespiratory endurance in female college students.A literature review searched three database (Google Scholar, Pro Quest, and National Journal) that use cross-sectional or quasi-experimental designs published after 2010. The prism checklist is used as a guide to assess the feasibility of studies. The research findings were carried out by tabulating data and narrative analysis. Found 8 journals that met the inclusion criteria based on two broad that affected cardiorespiratory endurance, BMI (n=3), Hb (n=5). Most of these studies use cross-sectional or quasi-experimental designs. The average number of respondents of the study was more than 50 people for the study of the relationship of hemoglobin and body mass index with cardiorespiratory endurance in female college students. The research examined in this article shows that BMI and Hb are associated with cardiorespiratory endurance in female college students. This can be used as nurses to provide education about the importance of maintaining a balance of BMI and hemoglobin levels in increasing cardiorespiratory endurance so that they can perform physical activity maximally.

Abstract

Effective interpersonal communication by teachers supports learning through empathetic, argumentative, and ethical verbal and nonverbal approaches, building students’ motivation, trust, and engagement in an inclusive learning environment. This study aims to understand the interpersonal communication of Islamic Religious Education teachers in establishing positive relationships to support students' academic success. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design to explore interpersonal communication between Islamic Education teachers and students through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana method, which includes data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was maintained through source and method triangulation, member checking, and peer discussions. The results indicate that teachers’ interpersonal communication strategies involve a harmonious blend of verbal and nonverbal communication. Teachers deliver material through lectures, advice, and praise, while reinforcing messages with facial expressions and gestures. Values such as empathy, openness, support, positive attitudes, and equality form the foundation for building strong emotional connections with students. Supporting factors such as extended learning time and school programs also strengthen communication. Despite challenges like large class sizes and negative student perceptions, adaptive and empathetic strategies successfully create a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere. Conclusion: The interpersonal communication strategies of teachers enhance learning through verbal and nonverbal approaches that foster closeness, participation, and a positive atmosphere.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has implications for its massive use in the field of education. Expectations for teachers to integrate technology into their learning practices and professional development are increasing. The teacher’s ability to integrate technology in these two activities is influenced by various factors. However, previous research has not focused on uncovering how gender, experience, certification status, and social media can contribute to information and communication technology (ICT)-based learning practices and professional competency development for teachers. Based on this gap, this research was designed to investigate the contribution of gender, experience, certification status, and social media access to teachers’ ICT-based learning practices and professional competency development. The current research was designed as a cross-sectional survey. A total of 1,756 elementary school teachers in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, were involved as research samples through online questionnaire data collection. The research results showed that there were differences in teachers’ learning practices and professional development intentions based on work experience and intensity of social media access. However, no differences were found in gender variables and certification status. Thus, these two variables become key elements in integrating ICT in learning in the future. These findings will be beneficial for teacher training institutions and policy makers.
