Abstract

Ultisol is the main type of land in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Papua and Sulawesi, with an area of almost 45.8 million ha or 25% of the land area of Indonesia. Ultisol has a relatively high acidity (average pH 4.5), high Al saturation, reaching 60%. The efforts to increase the fertility of ultisol soils such as the addition of organic materials such as Empty Oil Palm Bunches (OPEFB) and CFA (Coal Fly Ash) or Coal Fly Ash (CFA) improve the physical properties of Ultisol soil. Use of CFA that exceeds the limit can cause pollution especially copper (Cu) and lead (Pb). One way to recover soil from heavy metal contaminants with Phytoremediation technology, mustard (Brassica juncea L.) is one of the plants that easily absorb heavy metals so that it can be used as a Phytoremediation agent. The aims of this research to determine the use of CFA and OPEFB to fix up the ultisol soil and heavy metal content absorbed by plants. This study used Completely Randomized Design with 3 replications. The results showed that using of CFA and OPEFB can increase the available P so that it can increase the growth of mustard plants and absorption of heavy metals. By using the dozes of 54.54g CFA and 18.18g OPEFB (C3K1) can increase P- available at 181.67 m kg-1 . The uptake of heavy metals Cu and Pb in mustard plants is very high. The highest uptake in Cu reached 192.03 mg kg-1 , whereas in Pb it was 80 mg kg-1 . This number is still very high, so it is dangerous if consumed.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to elucidate the possible phytoremediation of liquid waste of tapioca industry using Eichhornia crassipes prior its usage for watering maize grown on an Entisol of Malang. Tapioca liquid waste was mixed with pure water at various concentrations and then Eichhornia crassipes was grown on a water bath filled with the mixture. After twenty eight days, the mixture of tapioca liquid waste and pure water was analyzed for BOD, BOD, COD, DO, TSS, CN, total N, and total P, prior to its usage for watering maize grown on a pot filled with an Entisol. Results of this study showed that during twenty eight days Eichhornia crassipes grown on 25% tapioca liquid waste was capable to reduce BOD, COD, and CN concentrations of the liquid waste and to increase pH of the the mixture of liquid and pure water. This has resulted in a significant increase of maize growth

Abstract

Growth and development of white oyster mushroom are influenced by the mushroom seeds, planting substrate, environmental conditions, and media materials. A common type of media used is sawdust mushroom growers. Bagasse is a waste of sugar production as the highest cause of pollution (35%) but contains organic matter, minerals, crude fiber, crude protein and essential nutrients needed for growing oyster mushrooms. It is therefore necessary to study with the aim to determine the effect of bagasse as the mixed media production and quality of white oyster mushrooms. The experiment was conducted at PT Endang Mushroom, Tlogomas village, Lowok waru district, Malang city started from November until April 2011. The research used Completely Randomized Design with bagasse single-dose factor i.e. without bagasse/control (P0), 10% of bagasse (P1), 20% of bagasse (P2), 30% of bagasse (P3), and 40% of bagasse (P4). The observations made on the variables: time of fruit body appears, stalk length, stalk diameter, diameter of the hood, the number and weight of the wet weight of fruit. The results concluded that the use of bagasse as the mixture of sawdust medium effected on the growth of white oyster mushrooms. The addition of 40% bagasse was capable of producing fruit bodies appear as the fastest (28 days), the largest stem diameter (2.24 cm), the largest cap diameter (8.95 cm), the highest number of fruit (37.80 fruits) and wet weight reached 444.20 grams, of fruit bodies and wet weights did not differ erent as much as 30 % of bagasse

Abstract

The aim of this study the first is to know the different effects of treatment with red-blue LED and then compare it to treatment with white fluorescent light for green mustard growth, and the second is for determined the composition from each different treatment to reach the optimum growth of green mustard in the plant factory environment. In this case, treatment with fluorescent light will be used as a control variable for the observation. The research parameter is air temperature, light intensity, and the plant's physical measurements such as diameter and height. This study used a Single Plant Design, the treatment specified in this research was a planting model consisting of the first indoor hydroponic planting model or Plant Factory by applying LED (M1) irradiation, the second outdoor planting model in a greenhouse using full sun irradiation. (M2), and the third cropping model uses direct planting in the field (M3), and the fourth cropping model uses hydroponic planting in open spaces (M4). The result showed that cultivation with the plant factory model produced the best stover wet weight, which was 165.33 g, in contrast to the greenhouse planting model which produced a wet stover weight of 97.33 g and was different from the conventional model, which was 47.33 g. Vegetable wet weight is decent. Consumption also produced the highest with the plant factory planting model, which was 159.67 g per plant, followed by the greenhouse planting model, which was 92.33 g, and different from the conventional model, which was 46.67 g. Whereas if the method converted per ha, the best yields found in the plant factory cultivation model produce caisim vegetables of 27.56 tons/ha, different from the greenhouse planting model is 16.22 tons ha and significantly different from the conventional model which is 7.89 tons/ha.

Abstract

Land degradation challenges rice productivity in Indonesia, demanding innovative agronomic solutions. This study evaluated the interaction between humic acid-coated biochar rates and plant spacing on the growth and yield of rice (var. IR-64). A field experiment using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design was conducted in Malang. The treatments used a 2 factorial, the first factor included four biochar rates (0, 5, 10, and 15 t ha⁻¹) and the second factor used three plant spacings (20x20, 20x30, and 20x40 cm). The result showed a significant interaction (P 0.05) between biochar rate and spacing for the number of tillers and stem diameter. The highest tiller count (35.27) was recorded in the 5 t ha⁻¹ biochar rate, combined with 20x40 cm spacing. While the main effect of biochar on yield was not significant, plant spacing had a dominant impact; the 20x30 cm spacing yielded the highest grain weight per plot (8.74 kg). These findings highlight that rice yield optimization depends on the specific synergy between soil ameliorants and planting density

Abstract

Coleoptera play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of agroecosystems through decomposition, nutrient cycling, and biological control. This study aimed to examine the effects of nitrogen (N) fertilizer and rice husk biochar on Coleoptera population abundance in a sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) plantation. Conducted at UNITRI Science Technopark, the experiment used a Randomized Complete Block Design with eight treatment combinations of N fertilizer (0, 100, 150, 200 kg/ha) and biochar (5 tons/ha), replicated three times. Coleoptera specimens were collected using pitfall traps and analyzed with ANOVA and DMRT. Results demonstrated that N fertilizer variation had no significant effect (p0.05) on Coleoptera abundance, while biochar application consistently and significantly increased individual counts (p0.05). From 1,533 identified individuals belonging to 11 morphospecies, the distribution was nearly balanced between natural enemies (777 individuals) and other insects. Biochar enhanced soil insect abundance by improving habitat quality, indicating its positive role in supporting Coleoptera populations and its potential as a key component of biodiversity conservation-based sustainable soil management.
