Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, is a common psychological condition that may adversely affect the childbirth process and maternal well-being. Home care services provide a holistic and continuous approach that integrates education, emotional support, and family involvement, potentially reducing childbirth-related anxiety. However, evidence on the effectiveness of home care in primary health care settings remains limited. This study aimed to examine the effect of home care services on anxiety levels among third-trimester pregnant women facing childbirth. Research Methodology: A quantitative quasi-experimental study with a posttest-only control group design was conducted at Pattingaloang Primary Health Center from June to August 2025. A total of 40 third-trimester pregnant women were selected using accidental sampling and assigned to an intervention group (n = 20) receiving home care services and a control group (n = 20) receiving standard antenatal care. Anxiety levels were measured using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Independent Sample t-test. Results: Most pregnant women in the intervention group were not anxious (85.0%), while the majority in the control group experienced anxiety (75.0%). The mean anxiety score in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group (17.90 ± 4.05 vs. 25.80 ± 5.12; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Home care services significantly reduce anxiety among third-trimester pregnant women facing childbirth. Integrating home care into routine antenatal services may enhance psychological preparedness and maternal well-being.

Abstract

Introduction: Family planning is a key global public health strategy to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that millions of women of reproductive age worldwide still have unmet needs for modern contraception, contributing to preventable maternal deaths and adverse reproductive outcomes. Although long-acting reversible contraceptives such as subdermal implants are highly effective (failure rate <1%), their utilization remains lower than short-term methods in many low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia. Understanding the determinants of implant use is essential to strengthening family planning programs at the primary health care level. Objective: To analyze factors associated with the use of subdermal contraceptives (Alat Kontrasepsi Bawah Kulit/AKBK) among women of reproductive age at Puskesmas Pattingalloang. Research Methodology: An analytic cross-sectional study was conducted among 50 women of reproductive age, selected by simple random sampling, between December 2024 and January 2025. Data were collected using validated structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multivariate logistic regression were performed using SPSS version 26. Statistical significance was set at α = 0.05. Results: Good information exposure (AOR = 9.12; 95% CI: 1.78–46.76; p = 0.008), good husband’s support (AOR = 7.45; 95% CI: 1.56–35.58; p = 0.012), good knowledge (AOR = 6.74; 95% CI: 1.38–32.94; p = 0.019), and age 20–30 years (AOR = 5.21; 95% CI: 1.02–26.60; p = 0.047) were independently associated with AKBK use. Parity, education level, and duration of contraceptive use were not significantly associated. Conclusion: Cognitive and relational determinants play a central role in subdermal contraceptive uptake. Strengthening structured counseling, improving information dissemination, and implementing couple-centered family planning interventions are recommended to enhance long-acting contraceptive utilization and improve maternal health outcomes

Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus is a common complication during pregnancy that can increase maternal and fetal morbidity as well as long-term health risks. Therefore, improving pregnant women's knowledge is essential for early detection, prevention, and appropriate management. The purpose of this research is to examine how health education affects pregnant women's comprehension of gestational diabetes mellitus. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-post approach. A total of 61 pregnant women attending antenatal care at the independent midwifery practice of Salabiah in Lhokseumawe City were selected through purposive sampling. Participants were pregnant women with a Maternal and Child Health handbook, without mental disorders, previous pregnancy complications, or gestational diabetes mellitus. Knowledge was measured using a structured questionnaire administered before and after the educational intervention, which was delivered through a lecture method. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test revealed a significant difference in knowledge scores pre- and post-intervention (p 0.05), demonstrating a notable increase in the average post test score. These results suggest that health education successfully enhances the knowledge of pregnant women regarding gestational diabetes mellitus. Integrating structured and comprehensible educational programs into routine antenatal care is recommended to enhance maternal awareness and promote better pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract

In Indonesia, cigarette consumption is quite prevalent and has been become more common over time. According to Riskesdas (Baseline Health Research from Agency of Health Research and Development) study in 2018, the national percentage of people aged who smoke increased from 2016-2018, namely from 3.39% in 2016, 3.9% in 2017 and 9.65% in 2018. Smoking habits will negatively affect human health. Cigarette smoke contains various of different chemicals that are harmful to health, including nicotine addiction, tar (carcinogen or cancer-causing), and carbon monoxide. When inhaled, they form carboxyhemoglobin with Hb (Hemoglobin). When this occurs, the amount of Hb available for oxygen transport is reduced. By way of compensation, the body will produce more red blood cells. The objective of the study was to determine the hemoglobin levels in smokers with smoking durations of 3 years, 4 years and 5 years. This study is quasi-experimental. Determine hemoglobin readings using a photometer 5010 with the Cyanmethemoglobin method. Up to 20 samples were analyzed with SPSS version 20 with Anova analysis at 95% confidence level. The results of statistical analysis showed p-value <0.05, which means that there is a significant effect between variables and vice versa. Hb level comparison between durations of smoking are of 3 years with an average value of 14.8, Hb levels of 4 years with an average value of 14.53, and Hb levels of 5 years with an average value 15.94. The results showed that there was an effect of smoking duration on the results of the examination of hemoglobin levels in smokers of 3,4 and 5 years with the greatest effect being smokers with a duration of 5 years. The duration of smoking impact on hemoglobin levels.

Abstract

Honey is a natural product rich in bioactive compounds with various pharmacological and anti-inflammatory effects. Bee species and nectar sources influence the composition of bioactive compounds in honey. This study aimed to identify bioactive compounds and evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of honey from Apis mellifera and Apis dorsata. Compound identification from both honey types was performed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). At the same time, anti-inflammatory activity was assessed through the human red blood cell (HRBC) membrane stabilization method and protein denaturation inhibition assay, with sodium diclofenac as a positive control. GC-MS analysis revealed various bioactive compounds, notably 2-Propenoic acid, 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-ethylhexyl ester, consistently present in both honey types. In the HRBC assay, Apis mellifera honey showed the highest stabilization value of 94.14% at a concentration of 6.25 mg/L honey solution, surpassing sodium diclofenac (87.96%), while Apis dorsata honey reached 85.21%. All samples achieved over 95% stabilization at 100 mg/L. In the protein denaturation assay, Apis dorsata honey exhibited stronger anti-inflammatory potential with an IC₅₀ of 12.85 ± 1.477 mg/L compared to Apis mellifera (25.35 ± 0.024 mg/L). In conclusion, both types of honey possess promising natural anti-inflammatory potential through membrane stabilization and protein protection mechanisms.
