Abstract

Learning media is a tool that has a crucial role in supporting the teaching and learning process, because media functions as a means of conveying effective information to students. One of the teaching media that is widely used is student worksheets. With advances in technology, electronic-based student worksheets are needed. Electronic LKPD is a student practice sheet that is done digitally and carried out systematically. This research aims to identify students' needs for e-LKPD that integrates Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) aspects as additional teaching materials in learning activities. This research uses descriptive methods with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data collection techniques were through interviews with a biology teacher and distributing questionnaires to 70 students in Classes X E1 and X E2 at SMAN 1 Koto XI Tarusan. The interview results showed that the teacher only used the textbook provided by the school and had never developed e-LKPD with Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) nuances in learning activities. So students do not have supporting teaching materials to be able to learn independently. From this research it can be concluded that there is a great need for e-LKPD with Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) nuances regarding biodiversity material.

Abstract

Science education is essential for developing students’ ability to understand and apply scientific concepts in real-world contexts. However, existing studies often examine teaching strategies, worksheet usage, and engagement in isolation, leaving a gap in understanding their interconnected dynamics. This study examines the relationships between teaching strategies, student worksheets, and student engagement in science education. Conducted in junior high schools in North Sumatra, Indonesia, with 51 participants aged 13–15, the research employed a survey method analyzed via multiple regression. Results show a strong link between teaching strategies and worksheet use. Contextualized teaching encourages worksheets for analyzing experimental data, while project-based approaches promote their use in collaborative tasks. Worksheets significantly enhance engagement by fostering participation, confidence, and problem-solving. They provide structure, deepen understanding, and strengthen critical thinking and collaboration. Aligning teaching strategies with well-designed worksheets creates a dynamic learning environment, improving engagement and outcomes. Educators and policymakers should prioritize integrative approaches and effective teaching aids to optimize learning.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established by the United Nations in 2015, aim to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Achieving these goals necessitates sustainability consciousness, which encompasses awareness, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors towards sustainable development. This study evaluates the sustainability consciousness among pre-service Biology Education teacher students at Universitas Negeri Padang using the Sustainability Consciousness Questionnaire (SCQ). The SCQ, adapted from Gericke et al. (2018), includes 50 statements across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, and assesses sustainability knowingness, attitudes, and behaviors using a 4-point Likert scale. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics to categorize respondents into low, medium, and high sustainability consciousness levels. The results reveal that 88.5% of students possess medium sustainability consciousness, 7.7% exhibit low consciousness, and 3.8% demonstrate high consciousness. The study also found that sustainability consciousness is highest in the social dimension, with strong attitudes and behaviors towards social sustainability, while environmental and economic dimensions showed variability. These findings highlight the need for targeted educational interventions to enhance sustainability consciousness among pre-service teachers, crucial for embedding sustainability into higher education curricula.

Abstract

Indonesia is rich in diverse cultural heritage, including the traditional ULOS cloth from North Sumatra. To preserve and appreciate local culture, it is essential for student teachers to develop a deep understanding and love for that culture. The ULOS-based learning model, assisted by Augmented Reality (AR), is designed to achieve this goal. This research aims to develop a learning model based on the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, referred to as the ULOS model, to increase cultural understanding and appreciation among prospective teacher students. The study follows a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE development model. The sample includes elementary school teacher education students from UHKBPNP during the trial and effectiveness testing stages. Data collection involved expert validation sheets to assess the model suitability and test instruments to measure students love for their culture. The results demonstrate that the ULOS learning model assisted by AR, was declared valid, effective, and practical. It significantly enhanced students understanding of Batak culture and ULOS cloth, while also increasing their positive attitudes and love for local culture. The use of ULOS cloth as a teaching aid not only enriches the learning process but also strengthens cultural identity and fosters pride in Indonesia cultural heritage. The ULOS learning model is effective in enhancing cultural understanding and appreciation and has the potential to be adopted and developed in various educational and cultural contexts worldwide.
