Abstract

Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) are controversial topics that have a scientific basis and important to society. This study aims to analyze the trends of SSI research publications from 2011-2020, visualize SSI research trends and how Indonesian researchers contribute to SSI research. This study was conducted on April 18, 2021, using bibliometric analysis. Data obtained is 225 data and taken by using Scopus database with "socio-scientific issues in physics" as the keyword from 2011 until 2020. After that, the data mapping was carried out using VOS Viewer software. Based on the result research, it can be concluded that the most topic in SSI research is related to scientific literacy, argumentation, and global warming. The visualization result shows that SSI has many effects on science learning, especially to improve argumentation skills. From 35 countries, Indonesia became the largest contribution research documents in SSI by placing two representative institutions: Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Indonesia also contributed the most prolific SSI writer, Widodo became the most prolific writer.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendapatkan perangkat pembelajaran IPA model Creative Problem Solving dengan Metode Eksperimen yang layak digunakan untuk melatihkan Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs) siswa Sekolah Dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini mengacu pada model pengembangan 4-D. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran layak untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran IPA Sekolah Dasar dengan hasil sebagai berikut: silabus mendapat skor 3,6 (sangat valid), RPP mendapat skor 3,6 (sangat valid), Bahan Ajar Siswa (BAS) mendapat skor 3,7 (sangat valid), Lembar Kegiatan Siswa (LKS) mendapat skor 3,65 (sangat valid), soal tes HOTs mendapat skor 3,4 (valid) serta keterbacaan BAS dan LKS yang mendapat 84,75% dan 81% dengan kategori mudah.

Abstract

This short paper introduces ‘Studies in Learning and Teaching’ (SiLeT) as a new journal. As an international peer-reviewed journal, SiLeT aware of the quality of the content. The rational, the purpose, and the scope are illustrated as the opening speech of the journal. Since the number of learning and teaching journals is still lacking in accommodating the ideas of researchers and scholars in the world especially in the domain of education, therefore, the existence of SiLeT will fill the void of scientific discussion, especially in terms of “learning, teaching, curriculum development, learning environments, teacher education, educational technology, educational developments, measurement and evaluation, educational statistics, books review of education and other learning-teaching issues”.

Abstract

This qualitative research was motivated by our experiences while being an international student in Taiwan. We met with four Indonesian students who move to Taiwan because of their parents are postgraduate students. They were four elementary students who were studying in a primary school in Hualien County as a research participant. They have been in Taiwan for around six months. Through an in-depth interview and documentation study, we captured their experiences during a Chinese class. Finally, we got three main themes that impress us: “I don’t want to be a loser! (First Impression)”; “I prefer she use body language than English (Learning Process and Teacher)”; and “If I don’t know him/her I will ask payment for me (Motivation in Chinese)”.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills, namely intelligence, is needed by students in the 21st century period. Interpretation, analysis, evaluation, conclusions, and explanations are some of the cognitive indicators of critical thinking. One way to practice impressive critical thinking skills is to use comics as media. Comics are one of the benefits of improving the learning process because they have several aspects that can attract students' learning interest to understand the material to be conveyed through visualizing images and stories in comics. The research was intended to explain comic media's effectiveness to train students' critical thinking skills in learning physics. The research used a literature search in journals that can be accounted for in comic media and critical thinking skills. Data analysis techniques in library research applied descriptive qualitative research. Physics comics that are digital-based can attract students' interest because they can be used anytime and anywhere to strengthen students' critical thinking skills. The learning outcomes of students can be more effective and contextual. The literature search results obtained indicate that comic media is useful in training students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Dalam menghadapi era revolusi industri 4.0, perkembangan pembelajaran beserta praktiknya harus disesuaikan. Adapun solusi yang dapat digunakan yaitu dengan blended learning atau pembelajaran terpadu. Dengan Blended Learning peserta didik dapat dengan fleksibel membagi waktu dalam menyelesaikan tugas, selain itu pemahaman konten materi peserta didik menjadi lebih mudah. Adapun tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kemampuan literasi sains peserta didik pada materi fluida statis. Jenis dari penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan desain penelitian non-equivalent control group design. Sampel dalam penelitian adalah peserta didik SMAN 1 Cerme, Gresik sejumlah 50 peserta didik dengan penentuan sampelnya dilakukan menggunakan teknik sampel nonprobabilitas dengan jenis purposive sampling. Dalam penelitian ini, instrument yang digunakan yaitu berupa soal literasi sains dalam bentuk pretest-posttest dan angket respon peserta didik. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi, tes dan angket. Untuk teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik deskriptif kuantitatif. Berdasarkan analisis data dihasilkan dalam penelitian adalah terdapat peningkatan kemampuan literasi peserta didik sebesar 0,49 dengan kategori efektif. Peserta didik memiliki respon positif terhadap pembelajaran Blended Learning berbasis Edmodo yang dapat dilihat dari nilai n-gain. Blanded Learning berbasis Edmodo dapat dipilih sebagai model pembelajaran alternatif, khususnya di era new normal. When facing the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, the development of learning and best practice must be adjusted. The solution that can be used is blended learning or integrated learning. Through Blended Learning, students can flexibly divide their time in completing assignments, in addition to making it easier for students to understand the content of the material. The purpose of this research is to analyze students' scientific literacy skills on static fluid material. This type of research is an experimental research with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this study were students of SMAN 1 Cerme, Gresik with a total of 50 students with the determination of the sample using a non-probability sampling technique with the type of purposive sampling. In this study, the instrument used was in the form of scientific literacy questions in the form of pretest-posttest and student response questionnaires. Data collection techniques in this study used the method of observation, tests and questionnaires. The data analysis technique used is a quantitative descriptive technique. Based on the analysis of the data generated in the study, there is an increase in students' literacy ability by 0.49 with the effective category. Students have a positive response to Edmodo-based Blended Learning, which can be seen from the value of n-gain. Edmodo-based Blended Learning can be chosen as an alternative learning model, especially in the new normal era.

Abstract

Pembelajaran saat ini tentu tidak lepas dari aktivitas yang berhubungan dengan teknologi, begitupun dengan pembelajaran yang diharapkan mampu membawa peserta didik untuk menguasai dan mampu menggunakan teknologi secara efektif. Tantangan pembelajaran saat ini adalah menurunnya motivasi belajar peserta didik berkaitan dengan keterbatasan penggunaan media pembelajaran yang dirasa kurang menarik oleh peserta didik. Selama pembelajaran daring, peserta didik terbiasa menghabiskan sebagian besar waktunya untuk menggunakan gadget, termasuk memainkan game online. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, pengembangan media aplikasi permainan Apollo Comet perlu dilakukan berdasarkan tahap pengembangan ADDIE. Aplikasi permainan Apollo Comet merupakan adaptasi dari permainan ular tangga yang dimainkan dalam bentuk aplikasi melalui gadget. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan model quasi experimental design dengan instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes motivasi hasil adaptasi model ARCS oleh Keller yang dilaksanakan selama tiga pertemuan yang melibatkan 80 siswa kelas 6 SDN Keboansikep 1. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh, aplikasi permainan Apollo Comet mampu meningkatkan motivasi belajar peserta didik sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak.

Abstract

Etnosains merupakan pembelajaran dalam perspektif budaya yang berkaitan dengan fenomena alam. Pembelajaran IPA SD dalam perspektif etnosains dijadikan inovasi yang memberikan gambaran pengetahuan masyarakat yang dikaji secara ilmiah. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplor konsep sains ilmiah berkaitan dengan budaya di Krayan Kalimantan Utara. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif fenomenologis dengan 10 partisipan terdiri dari peserta didik, guru, kepala SDN 006 Krayan dan Kepala suku Dayak Lundayeh. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah eksplikasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa banyak konsep ilmiah yang dapat digali dari etnosains, seperti proses pembuatan garam gunung Krayan dikaitkan dengan konsep kalor dan perubahan wujud benda. Dengan demikian peserta didik selain memahami konsep sains ilmiah juga akan mencintai budaya mereka sendiri.

Abstract

This study is development research with the aim the knowing of validity, effectiveness, and practicality of inquiry-based learning tools assisted by flashcard media to reduce misconceptions of elementary school students on light concept. Before and after the learning materials implemented, the pretest and posttest were carried out. Identification of students' misconceptions was utilized by using the three-tiers diagnostic test. The data analysis technique used quantitative descriptive. The results of the study showed: (1) The validity of the learning materials was declared to be very valid by the validator, (2) The practicality of the materials developed was declared practical by the observer in terms of aspects of the device's implementation and student activities in learning which were categorized very well, and (3) the effectiveness of the learning materials being developed was declared effective in terms of the application of the materials which had an impact on reducing students' misconceptions which initially amounted to 57.33% down to 17.33%. An Inquiry-based science learning device assisted with flashcard media that has been developed, was feasible with valid, practical, and effective criteria, and also can be used to reduce science misconceptions on elementary students on light material.

Abstract

The argumentation ability plays an important role in the support of life skills required in the 21st century, but it has been recently found that this ability among students remains at a low level. This situation has asked for intervention to make the necessary skills improved. Thus, this study aims to examine students’ argumentation skills in written and oral senses by implementing the 5E Learning Cycle in a classroom setting and to analyze the effects of the implementation on ability the skills. The design of this study was pre-experimental research using one group pretest-posttest method. The learning materials used during the study were syllabus, lesson plans, handouts, worksheets, and exercises. Meanwhile, the ability of scientific argumentation skills was evaluated and assessed using pretest-posttest given and interviews in the form of descriptive questions and the corresponding guidelines. The results of the study are here reported as three separate findings. Firstly, the application of the 5E Learning Cycle in science learning allowed the students to practice their scientific argumentation skills. Secondly, direct observations found that most activities were well performed during classroom learning. Thirdly, group discussions in the 5E Learning Cycle have a good contribution to the students' scientific argumentation skills.
