Abstract

The local potential empowerment program through corn cracker innovation aims to improve the welfare of the community in Kampung Tengah Village, Kuala Batee District, Southwest Aceh Regency. By utilizing the abundant corn harvest, this program teaches production, packaging, and digital marketing skills to the community, especially housewives and MSME players. The methods used include participatory training, technical assistance, and the formation of joint business groups to ensure program sustainability. The program results show an increase in corn cracker production from 20 packs per day to 50 packs per day, as well as an increase in income from IDR 100,000 to IDR 250,000 per day. In addition to the economic impact, the program also strengthens social togetherness through cooperation in a joint business group. Diversification of corn crackers with different flavors and sizes has expanded the market reach outside the district. Constraints faced include product quality consistency and raw material supply chain stability, which can be overcome through collaboration with the government and related institutions. Program sustainability is ensured through the establishment of an integrated marketing network and community capacity building in business management. This corn cracker innovation is expected to become a sustainable model of local economic empowerment and can be replicated in other areas with similar agricultural potential.

Abstract

Background: Hearing loss in children is one of the main causes of delayed language development, which affects cognitive, social, and academic domains. Early interventions such as hearing aids (HA), cochlear implants (CI), and speech therapy have been developed to minimize these impacts. Objectives: This study aims to review the effectiveness of early intervention on language development in children with hearing loss using a systematic review approach. Methods: Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, CINAHL, and Google Scholar databases, with inclusion criteria focusing on children aged 0–6 years who received intervention before six months of age. Results: Seven studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the synthesis. The results indicate that children who received intervention before six months demonstrated significantly better receptive and expressive language outcomes compared to those who were treated later. Factors such as family involvement, consistent device use, and the application of auditory-verbal therapy contributed substantially to successful intervention outcomes. Conversely, delayed diagnosis and limited service accessibility remain major barriers in developing countries. Conclusion: early intervention is proven effective in enhancing language development among children with hearing loss; therefore, early screening and timely therapy should be prioritized within pediatric healthcare services. Abstract

Background: Child development is a form of continuous and natural stages, therefore each aspect that is developed influences each other. One aspect of development that greatly influences children is language development, both receptively (understanding) and expressively (expression). One of the factors that influences language development is early reading practice (early literacy) and storytelling. Early literacy skills are the knowledge, attitudes and skills of an early age child related to reading and writing before mastering formal skills at school age. The components of early literacy are reading interest, language skills, phonological awareness, reading skills, and writing skills. In addition to early age reading skills (literacy), to improve expressive language skills, also by getting children used to telling stories (story telling). Story telling is a mechanism for conveying stories using words, images, sounds, or movements with the intention of communicating messages or influencing the audience. Objectives: This study is to determine the effect of Early Literacy Skills and Story Telling on the Expressive Language Skills of Preschool Children. Methods: This study design uses a systematic review conducted by searching and selecting various kinds of data from the results of previous research and data from the results of clinical trials conducted across ethnicities, races, and also the location in the world, the time of the study results to be selected is in the period 2000-2023. The article search will be conducted for a maximum of 2 months. Instrument: Research data is searched from databases, including: PubMed and Google Scholar. Results: By using the search keywords "early language intervention" AND "clp" AND "observational".  Conclusion: The storytelling method has been proven effective and significant in improving the language skills of early childhood, especially in the aspects of expressive language, vocabulary, and oral communication. A variety of media (digital, puppets, children's work, and local wisdom) strengthens the effectiveness of this method. Storytelling is recommended as the main learning strategy in stimulating the language development of early childhood. Keywords: Storytelling, Expressive Language Skills

Abstract

Background: Older people experience decreased cognitive abilities, decreased memory, confusion, and difficulty understanding what others say and how they use language. The elderly often have conversations that are not fluent and are difficult to listen to. Decreasing speed in processing information and decreasing working memory, especially in terms of the ability to store information in the mind when processing, tend to contribute to a lack of language efficiency in the elderly. This study aimed to determine the relationship between cognitive, memory, and pragmatic abilities in Surakarta's older people. Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional approach to quantitative research with an observational analytical plan. The sample consisted of 30 respondents living in Surakarta. Bivariate analysis using standard deviation and multivariate analysis using logistic linear regression models. The research instruments used were cognitive-linguistic evaluation, memory examination, and the assessment of pragmatic skills. Results: The effect of statistical tests with contingency coefficient tests showed that cognitive ability and memory ability affected the pragmatic ability of older people with a p-value of 0.000, 0.01, and a correlation coefficient value of 0.550, 0.531. Meanwhile, the multivariate test using logistic regression results showed a value of sig.0.003<0.05. Conclusion: There is a relationship between cognitive and memory ability with the pragmatic ability of older people in Surakarta.

Abstract

Bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease that may present with acute exacerbations characterized by bronchospasm, mucus hypersecretion, and increased work of breathing. In emergency settings, nursing care should focus on airway patency and oxygenation. To describe tripod positioning and nebulizer therapy in an acute bronchial asthma patient with ineffective airway clearance in the Emergency Department (ED). A descriptive single-case report in May 2025 at the ED of RS Tk. II Pelamonia Makassar. The intervention included tripod positioning (10 minutes) and nebulizer therapy (15 minutes), with pre- and post-assessment of respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, breath sounds, cough effectiveness, and dyspnea severity, aligned with SDKI–SLKI–SIKI reasoning. Clinical improvement was observed in this case, including reduced respiratory rate (28 to 22 breaths/min), increased oxygen saturation (92% to 97%), resolution of wheezing, more effective cough, and reduced dyspnea severity. Tripod positioning and nebulizer therapy were followed by clinical improvement in this case, while causal inference is limited due to the single-case design and potential concomitant treatments.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis may impair ventilation and increase the work of breathing, placing patients at risk of an ineffective breathing pattern. This case report describes nursing support for ventilation through nurse-led interventions of pursed-lips breathing (PLB) and the semi-Fowler position in a pulmonary tuberculosis patient with an ineffective breathing pattern diagnosis. A descriptive single case report was prepared following CARE guidelines and the nursing process. Observation was conducted for 24 hours in a 69-year-old male patient in the emergency department of RS TK II Pelamonia Makassar. Outcomes were recorded consistently at baseline (March 17, 2025, 10.00 WITA) and at 24-hour follow-up, including respiratory rate (RR), oxygen saturation (SpO₂), signs of respiratory distress, and dyspnea using the Modified Borg Dyspnea Scale. Nurse-led interventions (semi-Fowler 30–45° and structured PLB) were implemented alongside collaborative therapy (oxygen via nasal cannula at 4 L/min and nebulized combivent/pulmicort) as prescribed. Clinical improvement was observed in this case, indicated by a decrease in RR from 25 to 22 breaths/min, an increase in SpO₂ from 96% to 100%, and a decrease in Borg score from 5/10 to 3/10, accompanied by reduced accessory muscle use. Conclusion: the nursing care package (PLB and semi-Fowler position) together with collaborative therapy was followed by improved breathing outcomes in a single pulmonary TB case; causality and generalization are limited and further studies are needed.

Abstract

Head injury is a traumatic disturbance of brain function that may or may not be accompanied by interstitial bleeding within the brain substance (2,4,5). Emergency management aims to prevent secondary brain injury, including optimizing ventilation/oxygenation and cerebral perfusion, as well as patient positioning. A common non-invasive measure is 30° head elevation (Head-Up) to facilitate cerebral venous drainage. To describe changes in consciousness level (Glasgow Coma Scale/GCS) following the application of a 30° Head-Up position in a patient with moderate head injury in the emergency department. A single-patient case report in the emergency department of RSUD Sayang Rakyat Makassar. The primary Outcome was serial GCS recorded at baseline before elevation (T0) and during observation until transfer. Head-Up 30° was an independent nursing intervention; oxygen therapy was recorded as collaborative therapy. A 50-year-old male (Mr. R) with moderate head injury and subdural hemorrhage. At T0 (10:15 WITA) GCS was 3-3-5; at 10:45 WITA it remained 3-3-5; it increased to 3-3-6 at 12:50 WITA and remained 3-3-6 until 13:54 WITA when the patient was transferred to the operating room. Available observation lasted approximately 3 hours 39 minutes; the planned 8-hour follow-up was not completed due to definitive transfer. In this case, 30° head elevation (with collaborative oxygen therapy) was followed by an improvement in GCS from 3-3-5 to 3-3-6 during ED observation. As descriptive evidence, this report cannot establish causality but supports the use of 30° Head-Up as part of non-invasive early management for head injury.
