Abstract

Purpose: This research investigates how high school students approach three-dimensional geometry problems by considering differences in cognitive styles (impulsive and reflective) and levels of mathematical ability. The aim is to understand the variations in problem-solving strategies based on Polya’s stages, which include understanding the problem, planning, executing, and reviewing the solution. Method: A descriptive qualitative method was used with a comparative case study design. Four students were selected through purposive sampling, each representing a unique combination of cognitive style and mathematical ability. Data collection involved problem-solving tests and semi-structured interviews. The analysis focused on tracing the students’ reasoning and decision-making processes throughout each stage of problem solving. Findings: The results show that students with a reflective cognitive style tend to be more thorough when planning and reviewing their work. Impulsive students, on the other hand, often rush through the process, resulting in errors, although those with high mathematical ability can still demonstrate effective strategies and occasionally correct their mistakes. Students with stronger mathematical ability generally show better visualization, abstraction, and accuracy in applying geometric concepts. Significance: These findings suggest the need for instructional strategies that are sensitive to students’ cognitive profiles. Teaching approaches that emphasize structured reflection and scaffolding may enhance geometry learning outcomes, especially for students who tend to act impulsively.

Abstract

The experimental method is the right way to learn biology. Osmosis is an important biological concept that can be used to understand other biology concepts and requires experimental activities so students can understand it better. The implementation of experimental activities will be guided by Student Worksheets (LKPD-Ex). The purpose of this study was to develop LKPD-Ex on osmosis experiments with chicken egg media for class XI students. This research is a development-research (RnD) using a four-D model, namely the definition phase, design phase, development phase, and deployment phase. However, it was changed to 3D because the media was developed only to test the feasibility of the E-LKPD media. Good validation results from experts score 89.08% of the assessment of material experts and media experts, and 92.63% of student responses with very decent criteria. From these data it can be concluded that the development of Experimental Student Worksheets (LKPD-Ex) on the Osmosis Experiment is very feasible to be used as an alternative in the learning process so that it can be tested in supporting the maximum learning process.

Abstract

Mathematical representation is the ability of students to explore and use mathematical ideas explicitly. This study aimed to learn about the effectiveness of the Mastery Learning Assessment Model (MLAM) in mathematics learning at the Assyfa Learning Center Foundation Pasuruan, which then described students' abilities in solving mathematical representation problems evaluated from mathematical dispositions. MLAM is based on repeating a similar assessment through an overhaul of mastery learning from previous researchers. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. In the study presented here, 20 subjects were pooled and surveyed using a continuous assessment tool based on high, low, and moderate math ability. The results showed that almost all students could use representational images to solve mathematical problems, create mathematical models, and solve problems related to mathematical expressions. On the other hand, most students could not complete the two indicators of mathematical representation, namely making sketches and mathematical models based on the given situation and data. This result is indicated by the 75 percent of students who completed this lesson. Based on the Teaching Evaluation (TER) results, most students are also satisfied with this approach. It is expected that the MLAM assessment can improve students' mathematical representation skills.

Abstract

Abstract

Integrating digital technology into elementary math education presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in assessing students' mathematical communication skills. This study applies the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework to develop digital assessments for elementary students, focusing on varying self-confidence levels. Utilizing platforms like online portfolios and interactive simulations, the research evaluates students' abilities to communicate mathematical ideas through writing, visuals, and expressions. A mixed-methods approach combined quantitative data from self-confidence questionnaires and digital scores with qualitative data from digital portfolios and interviews. Fifth-grade students from the Assyfa Learning Center Pasuruan Foundation were grouped by self-confidence levels. Findings indicate a positive correlation between self-confidence and mathematical communication skills: students with high self-confidence met all indicators, while those with moderate and low self-confidence met fewer. Digital assessment tools enhanced evaluations and data richness. This study underscores the importance of integrating technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge in digital assessments and recommends ongoing teacher training and child-friendly platforms to boost equitable math assessment.

Abstract

Students' mathematical communication skills are crucial for supporting conceptual understanding and problem solving in mathematics. However, many students still experience difficulties in relating mathematical ideas to everyday situations and clearly explaining mathematical concepts and relationships. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Auditory Intellectually Repetition (AIR) learning model combined with the JKT 48 song "Fortune Cookie" in improving students' mathematical communication skills. Unlike previous studies that used a qualitative approach, this study employed a quantitative method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The subjects were 23 seventh-grade students at MTs Ma'arif Roudlotut Tholibin Metro. The research instrument was a descriptive test administered before and after the treatment to measure improvements in mathematical communication skills. Data analysis using a paired-sample t-test showed a significant improvement in students' mathematical communication skills after the implementation of the song-assisted AIR model. The average pretest score of 19.21 increased to 81.73 in the posttest. These results indicate that integrating the AIR model with popular songs can be an effective innovation in enjoyable and meaningful mathematics learning

Abstract

Elementary mathematics education must include character guidance (honesty, hard effort, independence, social care, curiosity, faith, and responsibility) and mathematical understanding. To understand the wisdom gained from studying mathematics (life's mathematics). Advanced thinking is needed so students can build their mathematical image definitions. Thus, character education is necessary to apply mathematical concepts in the real world and address the issue of low student interest and math learning outcomes due to a need for more innovative and exciting learning media. Monopoly-smart Islamic monopoly learning media for elementary school game-based mathematics learning is the goal of this project. This research develops elemental school teaching media. We employed the Four-D development model: defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. This research is only design-related. This media was hand-designed, scanned, and Photoshopped. Islamic Math Monopoly is a mathematical monopoly on FPB and KPK conceptual material with Islamic nuances that teach character and math. After creating the first product, material, media, and math professors will validate it. Data analysis is described qualitatively. This research's material, language, and presentation results are "Very Appropriate." Thus, this medium is "Very Appropriate" and requires validator input, such as making the material more synchronous, adding challenge questions, and including KD/KI in writing. This research found that Islamic monopoly-smart media (MonoMart) games suit elementary school mathematics instruction

Abstract

-Cognitive abilities are critical for children to develop knowledge through sensory experiences. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of interactive digital media in sewing pattern activities on the cognitive development and creativity of children in Group B at Idhata Bucinri Kindergarten, Pangkajene Regency. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects of the study were 17 children in Group B, where each child had an equal opportunity to participate in this activity, such as in the concept of probability. The children were divided into two groups: an experimental group that used interactive digital media as a sewing guide, and a control group that used conventional methods. The study was conducted for 10 days, with cognitive and creative aspects measured before and after treatment. The results showed that the group that used interactive digital media experienced a significant increase in cognitive and creative aspects compared to the control group. This increase can be expressed as asignificant difference between the averages of the two groups. The use of interactive digital media as media content in sewing pattern activities has proven effective in supporting students' cognitive development.
