Abstract

The Anthropocene epoch has catalyzed a profound shift in contemporary art, with Bio-Art emerging as a critical field for interrogating the complex relationships between humanity, technology, and the non-human world. While significant scholarship has explored Bio-Art in Western contexts, its unique manifestations within Southeast Asia remain underexamined. This study investigated the rise of a specific mode of Bio-Art in this region, characterized by rhizomatic structures, multispecies storytelling, and deep ecological entanglement, offering a vital counter-narrative to anthropocentric perspectives. This research employed a qualitative, multi-sited case study methodology. Four exemplary Bio-Art projects from Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore, created between 2020 and 2024, were purposively selected. A multi-modal analytical approach was utilized, combining formal visual analysis of the artworks, critical discourse analysis of artist statements and curatorial texts, and thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with the artists and curators. The analysis was theoretically grounded in the concepts of the rhizome (and multispecies ethnography. The analysis revealed four dominant themes. First, artists consistently employed the rhizome as both method and metaphor, creating non-linear, decentralized works that mirrored ecological networks. Second, a significant pattern of weaving technoscience with traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) was identified, where advanced biotechnologies were syncretized with local cosmologies and indigenous practices. Third, the artworks actively engaged in more-than-human narration, displacing the human as the central protagonist and instead foregrounding the agency of fungi, plants, microbes, and other organisms. Finally, these projects cultivated affective ecologies, generating powerful emotional responses in viewers to foster critical engagement with pressing regional issues. In conclusion, Southeast Asian Bio-Art, as examined in this study, represents a significant "rhizomatic resurgence" that challenges and expands the global discourse on ecological art. By entangling advanced science with local heritage and centering non-human agencies, these practices foster a profound sense of ecological interdependence. This research concludes that the region's artists are pioneering unique aesthetic and ethical frameworks for navigating our shared planetary crisis, contributing vital perspectives rooted in the unique biocultural complexities of Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain the profile of Science teaching materials for junior high school on the topic of Quantities and Units based on humanism. Science teaching materials for junior high school on the topic of Quantities and Units based on humanism that have been produced have many advantages compared to the other teaching materials. The main advantage is that this teaching material brings the students to a condition of comprehensive self-development of students, namely the development of intellectual, creative, emotional, and spiritual potential. This teaching material was developed through research and development of the 4D Model (definition, design, development, and dissemination) which was carried out by involving 7th Grade students of SMPN 24 Makassar in the 2008/2009 academic year for the limited trial stage, extensive trial and effectiveness test. The products produced in this study have gone through the planning process, material testing by material experts, revision, product testing, and effectiveness testing on the students. Research results: the profile of the presentation of the Science Teaching Material on the Topic of Quantities and Units Based on Humanism that has been obtained through development includes: the initial part (consisting of words of encouragement to learn, advice so that students are increasingly aware of the importance of learning and studying the topic of Quantities and Units), the middle part (consisting of the topic title, indicators to be achieved in studying the topic of Quantities and Units, the content of the Quantities and Units Material, the presentation of attitudes that will be developed in students in learning with the topic of Quantities and Units, and suggestions or tasks that students must do related to the Quantities and Units material that has been read and studied), and the final part (consisting of Learning questions for Practice in order to develop intellectual, creative, emotional and spiritual potential).

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia faces a severe but poorly quantified epidemic of oral cancer (OC) and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), driven by culturally endemic habits of kretek (clove cigarette) smoking and betel quid chewing. The absence of robust, large-scale epidemiological data has critically hampered the development of targeted public health interventions. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of OC and OPMDs and to quantify their association with these specific cultural practices in a large, geographically diverse Indonesian population. Methods: A multi-center, cross-sectional study was conducted across the Indonesian archipelago, enrolling 17,850 adults aged ≥30 years through a stratified, multi-stage cluster sampling design at community primary health centers (Puskesmas). Participants completed a structured questionnaire and underwent a standardized oral examination by calibrated dental professionals. All statistical analyses, including bivariate tests and multivariable logistic regression, were performed using survey-specific methods to account for the complex sampling design (stratification, clustering, and weighting) to produce nationally representative estimates. Results: The overall, nationally-weighted prevalence of the combined OC/OPMD outcome was 5.7% (95% CI: 5.2% - 6.2%). The prevalence was 4.9% for OPMDs and 0.8% for OC. After adjusting for confounders in a survey-weighted multivariable logistic regression model, current kretek smoking (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR]: 6.15; 95% CI: 4.98 - 7.59) and current betel quid chewing (AOR: 9.22; 95% CI: 7.31 - 11.63) were the most powerful factors associated with the presence of OC/OPMDs. A significant, non-linear dose-response relationship was observed for both habits. Conclusion: The burden of oral cancer and its precursors in Indonesia is substantial and is overwhelmingly associated with the culturally embedded habits of kretek smoking and betel quid chewing. These findings provide definitive, population-level evidence underscoring the urgent necessity for culturally-tailored public health strategies focused on cessation, regulation, and systematic early detection to mitigate this preventable cancer epidemic.

Abstract

GOR Anugrah is a company that provides badminton court rental services. In the current court rental process at GOR Anugrah, there are still several issues that need to be addressed, with the main problem being the lack of information about court availability. This often causes potential renters to wait for confirmation from the management. In addition, renters also face challenges such as double bookings and complicated payment processes due to inefficient rental management. The author aims to analyze and design a website that simplifies the court rental process. To conduct the analysis and design, the author applies the Design Thinking method, which includes the stages of empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and test. In conclusion, the author hopes that the designed badminton court rental website can serve as a solution for GOR Anugrah. With the implementation of this website, it is expected that potential renters will find it easier to access availability information, make reservations, and complete payments online. Moreover, by enhancing brand awareness through the website, GOR Anugrah is expected to attract more new renters and expand its market reach.

Abstract

The global challenges of food insecurity (SDG 2) and water scarcity (SDG 6) require proven, sustainable governance models. Socio-ecological systems (SES) rooted in local wisdom (kearifan lokal) offer resilient alternatives. The Balinese Subak, a UNESCO World Heritage site guided by the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, is a pre-eminent example. This research employed a 10-year (2015-2025) longitudinal, mixed-methods, comparative case study of two Subak systems in Bali. We collected a comprehensive dataset including 1,200 systematic water sampling events (yielding 7,200 analytical data points for pH, TSS, BOD, COD, NO3-N, PO4-P) and a 10-year rolling panel survey (n=2,000 completed survey-years) to assess agricultural and governance metrics. Qualitative data (n=60 interviews, n=24 meeting observations) were thematically analyzed. Generalized Linear Mixed-Effects Models (GLMMs) revealed a statistically significant time-dependent reduction in pollution, including Nitrate (β = -0.21 mg/L/year, p < .001) and BOD (β = -0.15 mg/L/year, p < .001), across both sites. This trend was strongly associated with a validated Social Governance Index (SGI). Critically, rice yields remained stable at a high-productivity average (6.2 t/ha), while chemical pesticide use declined by 48% (p < .001). Qualitative analysis identified the core mechanisms: (1) Tri Hita Karana as an internalized moral framework, (2) ritual calendars as coordination mechanisms, and (3) awig-awig as an adaptive governance system. In conclusion, the Subak system demonstrates a proven, sophisticated, and data-driven framework that operationalizes kearifan lokal to achieve the non-trade-off, simultaneous goals of sustainable agriculture (SDG 2) and clean water (SDG 6). These findings provide robust evidence that such systems are not relics but essential, adaptive governance models for global sustainability.
