Abstract

Education is a fundamental human necessity that is essential for personal development and for preparing individuals to face future challenges, including the impact of advances in science and technology on the development of high-quality and intelligent human resources. This study aims to analyze the needs for developing Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based Electronic Student Worksheets (E-LKPD) on the topic of the human digestive system. It constitutes a preliminary study within the Four-D development model, with research subjects comprising one biology teacher and 31 Grade XI F2 students at SMAN 1 2x11 Enam Lingkung. Data were collected through interviews and observation questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results indicate an urgent need for interactive and visual teaching materials; the majority of students (90.3%) require learning resources that are comprehensive, concise, and clear, with strong emphasis on attractive visual elements (74.2%) and linguistic clarity (83.9%). Furthermore, 87.1% of students agreed with the development of PBL-based E-LKPD as a solution. The study concludes that the development of PBL-based E-LKPD is necessary to transform learning from passive to active. Practical and flexible E-LKPD, when combined with the PBL model, has the potential to effectively foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The implication is that E-LKPD should be designed with multimedia features (videos/images) capable of visualizing abstract concepts in accordance with the E-LKPD design framework, thereby supporting active, contextual biology learning that is aligned with the demands of twenty-first-century education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the collaborative skills of students at Payakumbuh State High School 3 in their biology classes. This study employs a quantitative descriptive approach using a questionnaire administered to 72 students in grades XI F6 and XI F7. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire containing 13 questions measuring aspects of learning interest, study habits, use of learning resources, group participation, self-confidence, responsibility, and difficulties in collaborating. The results indicate that 100% of students are interested in Biology learning, yet only 45.8% feel confident expressing their opinions in front of peers. A total of 90.3% of students have experienced difficulties in group work, with the main issues being the presence of passive members (73.6%) and a lack of cohesion (52.7%). Although 100% of students are accustomed to valuing their peers’ opinions and acknowledge the importance of social skills (95.8%), the majority (62.5%) are more comfortable learning independently than in groups. These findings indicate that students’ collaborative skills still need to be improved through more varied and structured learning strategies.

Abstract

A very basic concept in the traditional Toba Batak kinship organization is the clan. Marga is a group of people who come from the same grandfather and follow the lineage from the father which is called patrilineal. Toba Batak customs are connected by a red thread that is tied in a kinship relationship "Dalihan natolu ". This study aims to analyze multidimensional science education in the ethnoscience of Dalihan Na Tolu in the perspective of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. This study is a literature study (library research) with data sources from previous research articles on topics related to science education, science concepts, ethnoscience, and Dalihan natolu .The literature review method is by searching for Discopus literature for the 2017-2022 year using keywords or the keywords Dalihan natolu . The stages of literature are carried out in a simple manner, namely: (1) Searching and presenting literature, (2) Literacy analysis process, (3) Article preparation. The stages of literature are carried out in a simple manner, namely: (1) Searching and presenting literature, (2) Literacy analysis process, (3) Article preparation. The results of the study show that (1) the nature of learning science can be classified into three dimensions, namely science as a product, science as a process, and science as an attitude; (2) Dalihan Na Tolu Dalihan Na Tolu is a philosophy that is an integral part of the life of the Toba Batak people (3) ethnoscience Dalihan Na Tolu contains the concept of kinship and can be integrated into the concept of science such as Biology, Mathematics and Physics (4) several learning models with an ethnoscience approach can improve conceptual understanding, science process skills, conservation attitudes, and students' creative thinking abilities.

Abstract

Inquiry-based learning (IBL) has been proven to be an effective approach to developing 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. However, the adaptation of inquiry phases to different levels of education and specific learning objectives remains a challenge that has not been thoroughly answered. This study used a systematic literature review (SLR) approach to review the IBL model with a focus on identifying the phases of inquiry, exploring the adaptation of IBL at various levels of education, analyzing relevance to learning objectives, and evaluating the effectiveness of scaffolding and research design. From an analysis of 2018-2024 taken from the Google Scholar database, it was found that IBL consists of five main phases-orientation, problem formulation, exploration, elaboration, and evaluation effectiveness depending on the educational context and level of scaffolding. For example, the 5E-Based Inquiry model strongly supports science learning in elementary school, while the self-investigation phase is more appropriate in higher education. In addition, scaffolding, such as the use of advanced organizers and digital simulations, was shown to support student engagement during the inquiry process. This research highlights the flexibility and effectiveness of IBL in supporting conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving and offers insights into the adaptation and implementation of relevant models for different educational needs.

Abstract

Environmental awareness is crucial for fostering responsible behaviors towards the environment, and understanding the variations among different educational settings can inform targeted educational strategies. This study aims to examine differences in environmental awareness among students from three types of secondary educational institutions—Senior High Schools (SMA), Vocational Schools (SMK), and Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah)—using a descriptive-comparative quantitative approach. Furthermore, it seeks to explore the implications of students’ environmental awareness on the development of their naturalistic intelligence, particularly through experiential learning activities that address real-world ecological challenges. Data had been collected using a structured questionnaire that had been compiled and analyzed using the RASCH program. Based on the results of the analysis using the Ministeps (RASCH) program, 25 items of the environmental awareness rating scale instrument were obtained from 240 subjects from senior high schools, vocational schools, and Madrasah Aliyah. The data analysis technique in this research applied Kruskal-Wallis. The result of this research showed that the level of environmental awareness of students in the public senior high school was higher than Madrasah Aliyah, followed by the vocational school. Increased environmental awareness has the potential to stimulate students' naturalistic intelligence, fostering a deeper understanding of ecological systems and promoting sustainable behaviours through experiential learning activities that address real-world environmental issues.
