Abstract

Literacy ability is a fundamental thing that must be possessed by students in facing the global era to be able to meet the needs of life in various situations. Science literacy is the ability to understand science, communicate science, and apply the ability of science to solve problems. To improve the ability of scientific literacy in addition to requiring student motivation, teachers also need to consider learning strategies that are appropriate to the conditions and potential of students which in the learning process focuses on providing direct experience and the application of the nature of science. The science learning study oriented Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) aims to correct misconceptions in science subjects with the material the influence of temperature on the density of water in elementary education. One effort to improve science misconceptions is to change teacher centered learning into student centered learning. One learning strategy that actively involves students while still raising science characteristics is that students are able to develop the knowledge they have by using the POE (Predict-Obiserve-Explain) learning model which is expected to improve science misconceptions with temperature material that can affect the density of water in elementary education

Abstract

The observation resulted that most elementary school students have misconceptions regarding the concept of water properties. A strategy which can be used to change the conception of elementary school students toward scientific conception is Predict-Observe-Explain (POE). This study aims to describe the level of conceptual change of fifth graders related to the concept of the water properties as an effect of applying the POE strategy-assisted science kit in learning. The method used was pre-experiment with one group pretest-posttest design on 38 fifth graders of an elementary school in Cileunyi District, Bandung Regency, West Java. The conceptions of fifth graders through POE strategy about concept of water properties identified by diagnostic test in the four-tier test (FTT) format. The results showed that the percentage of conceptual change of students consists of 1) early scientific conception (KISA) about 2.63%; 2) Static (S) around 23.68%; 3) Reconstruction (R) about 28.95%; 4) Construction (K) around 23.68%; and 5) Disorientation (D) around 21.06%. It can be concluded that the implementation of the POE strategy-assisted science kit in science learning materials for fifth graders has moderate effectiveness in facilitating the construction and the reconstruction level of elementary students' conceptions related to the concept of water properties

Abstract

The use of POE strategies in Indonesia has been widely developed in learning activities at junior and senior high school levels, but is still rarely used at the elementary level. Facts on the ground show that students' understanding of science concepts about air containing soil is still low. Based on this situation, this study aims to determine the increase in the ability to understand the concept that soil contains air in fifth grade students in one elementary school in Bandung. The POE strategy syntax consists of activities: predict, observe, and explain. The research design used was one group pretest posttest design. Sampling is done using non-random sampling techniques. The number of research samples consisted of 28 elementary students. Research data were collected using a four-tier diagnostic type test. Data analysis is performed by looking at the level of understanding changes by category: construction, revision, complementation, static, and disorientation. From this study, the results obtained that students tend to make improvements (revision) understanding of the concept of soil containing air after participating in learning activities with the POE strategy

Abstract

Prior observation of the research indicated that many misconceptions occured in the learning process in elementary school. Therefore this study aims to determine the change profile of students' conceptions of water dissolving various kinds of substances. The strategy used is the learning strategy Predict Observe Explain (POE) which consists of three stages, namely predicting, observing, and explaining. The research method used was the preexperimental method with the research design of one group pretest-posttest. The subjects in this study were fifth grade students in one of the elementary schools in Bandung Regency. Based on the data obtained from the pretest sheet, the prediction sheet and post-test sheet, it was found that there was a change in conception in students who had attended the study using the POE strategy. This can be seen from the reduced number of students with the category of answers to misconceptions significantly and the other side there is an increase in students with the category of understanding answers. For this reason, researchers provide recommendations to use the POE strategy as a solution to improve the existence of misconceptions

Abstract

Increasing student mastery of learning material is one of the main goals in education. The purpose of this research is to describe the mastery of students' explanatory text concepts through the implementation of the Read, Answer, Disscuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) learning models. The research method used in this study is a quasi-experimental method. The number of participants in this study were 38 students. Data were collected using a mastery test of explanatory text concepts. Data were analyzed through normality test, homogeneity test and t test using SPSS version 20.0 for windows. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the score of the students 'mastery of the concept of explanatory text concepts was 36.9 and the post-test scores of mastery of the concept of students' explanatory texts was 78.5. Based on the t test results it is known that p = 0.00 =0.05 means that there are significant differences in the mastery of students' explanatory text concepts between before and after treatment is given. Thus it can be concluded that the RADEC learning model is effective in developing the ability to master the explanatory text concept of elementary school students

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the portrait of multiliteracy learning in elementary school students in the Bandung. The research data were obtained from giving questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The urgency of this research was the evaluation of teacher competence in planning, implementing and evaluating learning. The results showed about learning preparation that was found in the high category, learning implementation that was found in the medium category, the assessment that was found in the very high category, and professional development that was found in the low category. The results of observations of teacher and student activities that occurred during the learning process showed multiliteracy activities. The researcher obtained read and write literacy activities at 60%, numeracy literacy at 50%, scientific literacy at 40%, cultural literacy at 40%, technology literacy at 20%, and communication literacy at 20%. These results indicated that multiliteracy learning was still lacking, and it needs to be improved

Abstract

Lesson plan (RPP) serves as a reference for teachers in implementing the teachinglearning in the classroom. Teachers write lesson plans based on the syllabus that engage students in learning to achieve basic competency curriculum. STEM learning approach has been implemented in primary schools. Engineering as one unit STEM believed to provide insight into the processes and systems that are used to make products of technology, because engineering is an approach to designing interactive objects, learning processes, and systems to meet human needs. This study aims to determine: (1) how the teachers write engineering-oriented lesson plans, (2) the constraints faced in the implementation of the lesson plan teachers in learning science, and (3) the efforts of teachers in overcoming the implementation of the RPP in science learning. This study uses qualitative research and descriptive research. The research subject were 1 teacher and 22 students of class V SD Laboratorium UPI Bandung 2018/2019 school year. Data obtained from interviews, observation and documentation in the form. Data were analysed using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results showed although teachers write engineering-oriented lesson plans and executed in sciece classroom teaching-learning, students have difficulty identifying the problem. Poorly trained students to brainstorm and visualize ideas so difficulty determining the necessary tools and materials. Students have a difficulties to create design, and realize the design. Thus, students become less able to reflect on the results of testing the design to improve the design

Abstract

Contextual learning presents new concepts in real life experiences and situations where students can find meaningful relationships between abstract ideas and practical applications. This study aims to determine students' creative thinking skills through contextualbased learning in fourth grade students of elementary schools. The design of this study uses the basic pattern of Pre test and Post test one Control Group with quasi-experimental type. The sample of this study was 40 students. The data collected is the ability of students 'creative thinking using Annova SPSS 23. The results of the hypothesis test of this study prove that contextual ability-based learning abilities of students' creative thinking are better than conventional learning. This is proven by the average score of students' creative thinking abilities in the experimental class being higher than conventional classes
