Abstract

The experiment activities carried out are not complete experiment activities. One of the learning models that includes investigative activities is the RADEC learning model. This research aims to implement inquiry-oriented RADEC learning. The method used in this research mixes methods by design-embedded experimental design. The subjects in this study were 45 elementary school students in class V, one of the elementary schools in Bandung Regency. Data collection techniques were collected using test and non-test instruments in the form of observation sheets, test questions, and questionnaires. Each stage of the RADEC learning model was good, with some stages increasing at each meeting and some optimally implemented. In investigative activities, students still need guidance in designing and making investigative reports and are required more than once to develop their skills in compiling, carrying out, and reporting investigations. Besides that, RADEC learning can increase students' mastery of concepts and encourage student collaboration skills.

Abstract

Visual representations are used by scientists to communicate scientific conceptions and are used by teachers to teach science in the classroom. The 2013 Curriculum textbook reduces this visual representation. Meanwhile, visual representations will help students develop a comprehensive understanding of the concept. This case study research aims to reveal cases of misconceptions in the visual representation of students at an X elementary school. We used observations of fifty-nine fourth-grade elementary school students to find students with different cases of misconceptions. Eleven students were further identified using interviews and drawing tests. We analysed the data qualitatively based on the collection of these two types of data. We found misconceptions in the representation of luminous objects and how students draw visions of luminous objects and non-luminous objects. Research results showed that we found cases of misconceptions similar to the findings from previous studies. While light and vision are prerequisite concepts, a student's conception of vision is affected when he has a misconception about light. Content can be developed by paying attention to the various modes of representation, conceptual change, and learning progression in the future. The pattern of learning progression can be studied in more detail using the microgenetic method.

Abstract

This study investigates the variations in the preparation of Semester Learning Plans (SLP) for the Basic Chemistry 1 course across 19 chemistry education programs at 31 universities in Indonesia. The study focuses on key aspects such as material coverage, learning methods, evaluation techniques, book references, and learning media used in each SLP. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and content analysis of 19 SLP documents, the study reveals significant diversity in the covered topics, teaching methods, and evaluation techniques employed across institutions. Core topics like stoichiometry and atomic structure are taught universally, but there is notable variation in specialized content such as green chemistry, air pollution, and tropical rainforests. The learning methods are primarily interactive, with group discussions and project-based learning being the most dominant. However, no program explicitly integrates the scientific method into its curriculum. Evaluation techniques vary, with most programs combining written exams and practical projects. This research concludes that the variations in SLP reflect institutional efforts to align curricula with local needs and global trends. It recommends expanding the sample scope in future studies and including qualitative data such as interviews with lecturers and student surveys for a more comprehensive understanding of how SLP impacts learning outcomes.

Abstract

Students' environmental awareness is an important aspect of implementing sustainable education. The environmental awareness of elementary school students is not only important for building awareness of sustainability but also crucial for shaping the character of young generations who care about nature. This research aims to find out how environmental awareness is possessed by students in several elementary schools in Bandung City. Research on the analysis of environmental awareness is needed to ensure that current educational efforts are effective and relevant to the challenges faced by society today. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques by means of observation, interviews and documentation. This research was conducted in four public elementary schools in Bandung City which have similar locations, student criteria and surrounding environmental conditions. Based on the results of the research conducted, it states that, principals and teachers have made efforts to develop various programs that focus on students' environmental care attitudes in Bandung City Public Elementary Schools but are less in accordance with the five indicators of environmental care attitudes, namely environmental awareness, real actions of students, environmental values and ethics, the influence of the social environment, and student discipline due to lack of awareness of students' environmental care attitudes.

Abstract

Learning in elementary schools is still dominated by the expository method, in which teachers explain while students passively listen, take notes, and complete assignments. This teacher-centered approach restricts the development of students’ critical thinking skills. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model in improving the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students in the science subject at SDN 31 Negeri Katon Pesawaran. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The sample consisted of 37 students, with 17 students in the control class applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and 20 students in the experimental class using the RADEC model. The research instrument was a critical thinking skills test in the form of pretest and post-test, consisting of five essay questions. Data analysis included prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) and an independent sample t-test. The results indicated a significance value of p = 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05 (p < 0.05), suggesting a significant difference between the two groups. These findings demonstrate that the RADEC model is more effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills compared to the PBL model.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to design and develop an Education of Sustainable Development-oriented RADEC learning design model for enhancing the environmental literacy of elementary school students. The research approach employed consists of four key stages: (1) problem identification, (2) defining various objectives, (3) design and development, and (4) product validation. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling and comprised six elementary school teachers from various grade levels, ranging from grade 1 to grade 6. Data collection involved the use of scaled questionnaires and interviews. The collected data were then analyzed using the Explanatory Sequential Mixed Method. The results indicate that the curriculum design for the ESD-oriented RADEC learning model is suitable for implementation in elementary schools. This conclusion is supported by the mean score of 3.98 and a standard deviation of 0.22, showing a consistent range of responses among experts. In other words, the experts unanimously agree that the product design is appropriate for classroom learning. To further assess the validity of the design, a one-way ANOVA test was conducted to determine if there were significant differences in the opinions of experts across various domains (ESD, RADEC, Environmental Literacy, and Basic Education). The results revealed that the F score and p-value exceeded α = 0.05, indicating no significant differences in the perceptions of the experts involved in the study. In summary, the experts reached a consensus that the product design exhibits a high level of feasibility, earning a "proper" rating in each component developed. Keywords: environmental literacy, ESD, RADEC learning model. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan model pembelajaran RADEC berorientasi Education of Sustainable Development (ESD) untuk mengembangkan literasi lingkungan siswa sekolah dasar. Abstract

Despite the emphasis on higher-order thinking skills in 21st-century learning, computational thinking skills among elementary school students remain underdeveloped. Many students rely on memorization instead of understanding the logical, systematic process of solving problems, particularly in science. This is evident in their inability to break down complex problems into smaller parts, identify interrelationships between components, and develop structured, step-by-step solution strategies. This indicates a gap between future competency needs and classroom learning practices. This study aims to examine and describe the computational thinking abilities of fourth-grade students in relation to energy and its changes. The study will determine if there is a problem with students' computational thinking abilities in this context. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method with a sample of 80 students from several elementary schools. The instrument used was a written test based on computational thinking indicators, including decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms. The results showed that students' computational thinking ability was poor because the value range was 62. Students can identify patterns and organize problem-solving steps systematically. However, they still have difficulty abstracting information and breaking down complex problems into simpler parts. These findings underscore the importance of integrating learning activities that stimulate computational thinking skills early on, particularly in elementary school science education, and of applying appropriate models to enhance students' computational thinking abilities.
