Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of the Sarimukti Final Disposal Site (TPA) on the social environment in three elementary schools located around the site, as well as the perceptions of students, teachers, and parents regarding its impact. The Sarimukti TPA raises concerns about air, soil, and water pollution that can affect the health and well-being of the surrounding community, especially elementary school students. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study design, involving three school principals, six teachers, twenty students, and three parents as research subjects. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study show that the existence of the Sarimukti landfill has the potential to cause negative impacts on children's health and the social environment of the school and the surrounding community. These impacts affect not only physical conditions but also the social aspects and welfare of students, teachers, and parents. In addition to interactions in the teaching and learning process at school, students' interactions with the surrounding social environment, including physical environmental conditions, also determine the quality of education in primary schools. Thus, the existence of the landfill has a significant impact on the social environment and education in the area.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a valid RADEC-based learning model for strengthening religious character values and improving critical thinking skills of elementary school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, limited to the stages of preliminary study, model design, expert validation, and revision. The RADEC learning model was developed by reconstructing its syntax Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create—through the explicit integration of religious character values and critical thinking indicators at each stage of the learning process. Data were collected using expert validation sheets completed by learning model experts and subject matter experts. The validation aspects included the suitability of learning objectives, clarity of RADEC syntax, integration of religious character values, integration of critical thinking skills, and overall feasibility of the model. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques based on average scores. The results of expert validation showed average scores ranging from 4.4 to 4.6, which fall into the very valid category for all assessed aspects. These findings indicate that the developed RADEC-based learning model meets validity criteria and is conceptually feasible for use in elementary education. Therefore, the model can be used as a validated learning model prototype that may be further tested for practicality and effectiveness in future research to support character education and critical thinking development in line with the Pancasila Student Profile

Abstract

This study investigates the variations in the preparation of Semester Learning Plans (SLP) for the Basic Chemistry 1 course across 19 chemistry education programs at 31 universities in Indonesia. The study focuses on key aspects such as material coverage, learning methods, evaluation techniques, book references, and learning media used in each SLP. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and content analysis of 19 SLP documents, the study reveals significant diversity in the covered topics, teaching methods, and evaluation techniques employed across institutions. Core topics like stoichiometry and atomic structure are taught universally, but there is notable variation in specialized content such as green chemistry, air pollution, and tropical rainforests. The learning methods are primarily interactive, with group discussions and project-based learning being the most dominant. However, no program explicitly integrates the scientific method into its curriculum. Evaluation techniques vary, with most programs combining written exams and practical projects. This research concludes that the variations in SLP reflect institutional efforts to align curricula with local needs and global trends. It recommends expanding the sample scope in future studies and including qualitative data such as interviews with lecturers and student surveys for a more comprehensive understanding of how SLP impacts learning outcomes.

Abstract

Learning in elementary schools is still dominated by the expository method, in which teachers explain while students passively listen, take notes, and complete assignments. This teacher-centered approach restricts the development of students’ critical thinking skills. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model in improving the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students in the science subject at SDN 31 Negeri Katon Pesawaran. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The sample consisted of 37 students, with 17 students in the control class applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and 20 students in the experimental class using the RADEC model. The research instrument was a critical thinking skills test in the form of pretest and post-test, consisting of five essay questions. Data analysis included prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) and an independent sample t-test. The results indicated a significance value of p = 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05 (p < 0.05), suggesting a significant difference between the two groups. These findings demonstrate that the RADEC model is more effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills compared to the PBL model.

Abstract

This study explores the analytical thinking skills of prospective Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) teacher students in understanding seasonal changes in Lampung through the ethnoscience-based RADEC learning model integrated with the local Ngumbai Sabah tradition. The aim is to bridge scientific concepts with local wisdom through both verbal and visual representations. The research employed a quantitative experimental design with a One-Pretest–Posttest design. The sample consisted of PGMI students from Class H, and the instrument was an open-ended essay test assessing students’ abilities to differentiate, organize, connect concepts, and present them visually. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, including a paired-sample t-test to evaluate the effectiveness of RADEC.Results show that the ethnoscience-based RADEC model effectively improves students’ ability to differentiate and organize concepts. However, their ability to connect concepts comprehensively remains limited, especially in visual representations. The main hindering factors are misconceptions regarding basic science concepts, particularly seasonal change phenomena, and difficulties in representing the relationships between scientific concepts and Lampung’s local wisdom. Most visual outputs remain descriptive and fragmented, highlighting the need to strengthen higher-order analytical thinking skills and visual literacy.

Abstract

Mathematics reading, encompassing the comprehension of mathematical texts, symbols, and visual representations, is a critical yet underexplored dimension of numeracy literacy. Many students struggle to connect textual information with mathematical concepts, leading to reduced problem-solving performance, especially in word problems under the National Curriculum. This study aims to examine the effectiveness, types, and impacts of mathematics reading activities, as well as the instructional strategies and classroom conditions that support their integration. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 19 Scopus-indexed empirical studies (2019–2024) using the PRISMA framework, the analysis highlights that activities such as close reading, text-to-symbol transformation, questioning strategies, and digital tools significantly enhance contextual understanding, problem modeling, and complex problem-solving skills. Among the identified approaches, the Gasing Method emphasizing gradual transition from concrete to abstract understanding, mental arithmetic, and intensive reading of problem texts aligns strongly with the needs of numeracy literacy development. Integration is most successful when supported by scaffolding, metacognitive strategies, and a literacy-rich learning environment. These findings suggest that embedding structured mathematics reading activities, including those within the Gasing Method framework, can foster literate, confident, and capable problem-solvers in elementary education while supporting the National Curriculum’s emphasis on contextual and critical thinking
