Abstract

This study synthesizes the literature on positive self-talk in adolescents. The research aimed to comprehensively understand descriptive forms and strategies to increase positive self-talk in adolescents. The method used in this research was Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by searching relevant articles through Scopus, Taylor & Francis Group, and Sage databases. The search was limited based on predetermined inclusion criteria, and 30 articles were obtained by peer review. The research design used was Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analytics (PRISMA). The results demonstrated that the form of positive self-talk in adolescents varies and can be applied to cultivate self-talk habits that are goal-directed, rational, affective, cognitive, motivational, and have psychological functions. Strategies to improve self-talk include using gestures through repetitive practice, mental rehearsal, cognitive interventions, and using first or second-person pronouns. Furthermore, strategies to increase self-talk can be implemented using video modelling examples and naturalistic videos.

Umayya, L.N., Irsan, C., Mulawarman, M., Shobiha, S.N., Fani, G., Apriyani, M., Aulia, H., Mirsya, S.A. (2024). Insects found on duku plants (Lansium domesticum Corr) in Muara Enim Regency. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembangg 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 212–220). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Cultivation of duku plants has obstacles such as applying of low cultivation technology and interference from Plant Disease Organisms (OPT). Therefore, we need to know the identification of pests that attack duku plants in the area to determine what pest species are causing damage to duku plants. The method used is direct observation and interviews. The results of observations carried out in farmers' duku gardens in Kepur Village, Muara Enim Regency show that insects that have the potential to become pests consist of 6 species, such as red caterpillars, fruit flies, ladybugs, tree termites, plutellidae larvae, and dompolan lice, in contrast other pests attack duku plants are bats and ants. Red caterpillars attack the skin on duku stems, termites attack the lower stems, dompolan lice attack the fluid on the leaves, ladybugs attack young fruit and fruit flies attack the inside of the fruit. Production can be reduced by up to 50-100 kg/stem due to pest attacks on duku plants. Dompolan lice attack duku plants which have a symbiotic relationship with ants. From this description, it was found that tree termite pests are the pests with the highest population and most insects attack the stems of plants. To develop duku production, further research is needed to control pests on duku plants.

These factors influence the formation of self-control in adolescents and offer psychological intervention strategies that can be carried out in order to improve self-control in adolescents. This study is a type of systematic literature review research, which is a literature review using systematic and structured procedures. The literature search in this study resulted in six kinds of articles from four databases. The results of the literature review produced a number of information related to the form of self-control behavior in adolescents, both low self-control and high self-control. Furthermore, the factors that influence the formation of self-control in adolescents are also known, both from intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In relation to the variety of self-control behaviors that are very important for adolescents to have, a number of psychological intervention strategies were explored to improve self-control in adolescents, namely through the Top-Down Toolbox (TDT), Cognitive and Emotional Resilience Through Somatic Awareness (CERSA), Self-Control Training (SCT) and Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP). The results of this study can be used as a reference to help adolescents improve self-control, as well as the basis for implementing further research.

Abstract

The behavior of seeking psychological help shows a sign of mental health in adolescents. Seeking psychological help is influenced by various things, including gratitude and self-esteem. With gratitude, students appreciate the benefits of social support for their problems, and with self-esteem, they will raise defenses to solve their problems. This study examines the effect of gratitude and self-esteem on psychological help-seeking behavior in vocational high school students in Boja District, Kendal Regency. The population of this study was 2,504 students, and with the cluster sampling method and the calculation of the Isaac and Michael formula, 333 students were selected as the research sample. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach of correlational design with multiple regression analysis. The study results obtained an f-test score of 74.383 with a sig of 000, meaning H1 is accepted. Gratitude and self-esteem simultaneously affect 31.1% of psychological help-seeking behavior and have a significant and positive relationship. So, it can be interpreted that the higher the level of gratitude and self-esteem in students, the higher the level of help-seeking behavior.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of children being raised by their grandparents due to parental migration, economic hardship, or family separation has raised concerns regarding its impact on children's autonomy and psychosocial development. This study examines teachers' perspectives on the independence of children aged 5–6 years under grandparental care. Employing a quantitative descriptive design, the research assessed 119 children in Cibinong, Bogor, using an adapted version of Iijima’s (1985) independence diagnostic test. Four indicators of independence were measured: spontaneity, self-control, autonomy, and self-assertion. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed that spontaneity (M = 57.76, SD = 7.78) and autonomy (M = 31.30, SD = 4.51) were categorized as high, self-control (M = 18.73, SD = 3.17) as moderate, and self-assertion (M = 15.53, SD = 2.68) as low. These findings suggest that while children under grandparental care exhibit independence in daily activities, they struggle with self-assertion, which is crucial for effective social interactions and decision-making. The study highlights the need for targeted interventions, such as role-playing exercises and structured decision-making tasks, to strengthen self-assertion skills. Additionally, parenting workshops for grandparents could help bridge gaps in independence development. Limitations include reliance on teacher-reported data; thus, future research should incorporate observational methods and longitudinal studies to explore the long-term impact of grandparental caregiving on children's independence. Understanding the implications of grandparental care is essential for designing early childhood education strategies and caregiving policies that support holistic child development.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the relationship between students’ academic procrastination with the intensity of social media use. This study employed quantitative approach with correlational design. The subject of the study was 419 students of the State University of Semarang from various faculties, they were selected by using random sampling technique. The data collection instrument of the study were social media use scale and academic procrastination scale. The data were analyzed using product moment. The result of the study showed coefficient correlation (r) of -0.344 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). This means that there is positive and significant relationship between academic procrastination and social media use intensity. The higher the academic procrastination, the higher the intensity of social media use, and vice versa. The result of the study can provide contribution to the school counselor as a prediction and initial data before providing guidance and counseling service on academic procrastination and being wise in social media. Keywords:
