Abstract

The characteristic of fairness is a virtuous one that adolescents should possess as capital to interact with their social environment. However, no validity of evidence supports the score interpretation of a fairness character scale. The purpose of this study is to obtain evidence for the validity of the scale for adolescents. The research data were collected from 532 adolescents in Indonesia, ranging in age between 14 and 18 years. Scale development covers all stages of the process by assessing the required validity and reliability of evidence. Based on the ratings obtained from the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were performed to identify the internal structure of the validity evidence. The results of the factor analysis found that the scale consisted of four factors, namely "exploitation", "appreciation", "social role", and "open behaviour". Cronbach alpha's internal consistency value was calculated to be .84. After completing all stages of the scale development, 20 items related to the characteristic of fairness were obtained. Therefore, the scale can be used by positive psychology developers to measure and identify the development of fairness in adolescents in Indonesia. The scale will complement the previously developed character strength measurement tools.

Abstract

Some Western counseling approaches are not applicable in local cultures. Consequently, counselors have to accommodate the local culture to improve the efficacy of their services. This research aims to formulate indigenous counseling based on the Javanese culture of Dasa Pitutur from Sunan Kalijaga. Using that culture, the counselors are expected to improve the participants’ cultural skills and respect for other cultures. It used the hermeneutic method with discourse analysis to interpret the messages’ structure and pragmatic. The analysis result signifies that the Dasa Pitutur values are relevant with the other group orientation. The primary message taught in Dasa Pitutur is encouraging humans to comprehend their life journey and position to willingly and voluntarily accept their obligations and nature. Linear to their position as a social creature, they have to be aware of the essential values from their relationship, dependency, and appreciation toward other humans. This study can be an enrichment material of cultural values-based guidance and counseling science.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of solution-focused brief counseling and motivational interviewing in enhancing students’ self-disclosure. This study used a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The sixteen participants from State Junior High School 3 Comal, Indonesia, were selected through nonprobability sampling with purposive sampling. The participants were divided into experiment and control groups. For the research instruments, this study used The Self-Disclosure Questionnaire developed by Jourard to measure students’ self-disclosure. The obtained data were analyzed using the repeated measures ANOVA test. Our analysis results showed that solution-focused brief counseling and motivational interviewing were effective in improving students’ self-disclosure. Therefore, the school counselor can implement both solution-focused brief counseling and motivational interviewing to enhance their students’ internal potential and self-disclosure. Future studies are suggested to widen the research participants and analyze the effects of gender and age differences on the effectiveness of solution-focused brief counseling and motivational interviewing in improving students’ self-disclosure.

Abstract

The development of technology in the field of counselling is an opportunity and challenge for counsellors in schools in providing counselling services. The purpose of this study was to analyse the results of students' need assessment in the process of evaluation and follow-up services. This survey involved 167 high school students by distributing questionnaires online. The survey results showed that almost 61.1% of students had experience of receiving guidance and counselling services from school counsellors. The types of services are online, offline and also blended, with the majority being offline sessions. Only 11.4% of students have online counselling experience, the rest do it offline. Some of the obstacles in the counselling process are fear of data being spread, embarrassment, time constraints and conditions, mistruts, inexperience, and not being able to open up, and networks. The evaluation done by students is that the implementation of guidance and counselling services needs to be improved, there is a need for other interaction applications and sometimes it is not optimal. Students like online counselling in the form of texts, websites, phone calls, and video calls. Often the school counsellor has a varied response speed, namely slow, medium and slow. Almost 79.1% felt comfortable during online group counselling with features such as video, articles, online text, graphics, phone, audio, video conference, virtual reality and supporting articles. Almost 63.5% were aware of virtual reality and had high interest. Implications for guidance and counselling and future research recommendations will be discussed in the core of the paper.

Abstract

The University of Mataram Community Service Program (KKN) in Loyok Village, East Lombok Regency, aims to empower the community through the optimal and sustainable utilization of local bamboo potential. Previously, bamboo in the village had been utilized primarily for woven crafts, while the food potential of bamboo shoots had not been fully developed. Through a participatory approach, this program focused on product diversification by processing bamboo shoots into chips. Activities were carried out through training in processing, packaging, and business mentoring, as well as the introduction of digital technology for marketing and transactions. As a result, the Loyok Village community succeeded in producing new processed products with higher economic value, improving skills, and adopting the principles of a circular economy and zero waste. This program not only increased community income but also strengthened the village's economic independence based on local wisdom. It was concluded that the innovation of processing bamboo shoot chips has the potential to become a sustainable flagship product of Loyok Village with the support of consistent and integrated management.

Abstract

The concept of growth mindset has gained widespread attention in educational discourse as a tool to enhance students’ motivation, well-being, and academic success. However, the implementation of growth mindset interventions often emphasizes behavioral outcomes while neglecting the deeper philosophical foundations that shape students' sense of self, purpose, and well-being. This paper presents the ontological, epistemological, and axiological domains of growth mindset interventions by reviewing the primary and secondary relevant literatures. A thorough examination of these philosophical dimensions enables practitioners to more effectively integrate the principles of growth mindset interventions into their professional practice.
