Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the selection process of candidates for the Aceh Representative Council (DPRA) from the Adil Sejahtera Party (PAS) in the 2024 elections in Aceh Province. This study uses Rahat and Hazan's candidacy theory approach to reveal the dimensions, space, and actors in the selection process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews, literature studies, and supplemented with internal party documents. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of reduction, presentation, and data verification. The results of the study reveal three patterns of candidate selection for DPRA members from PAS: (1) closed selection pattern; (2) exclusive and centralistic selection pattern. The dynamics of these patterns and actors show that the selection process for DPRA candidates from PAS is not entirely meritocratic but is the result of negotiations among party elites. This study concludes that the selection process for DPRA candidates from PAS is an arena of elitist power contestation. The strong influence of religious leaders in the party means that the selection of candidates is largely determined by party elites.

Abstract

Curcumin, a natural polyphenol derived from Curcuma longa, is well-regarded for its potent anti-inflammatory properties. However, its therapeutic application is severely hampered by its extremely low aqueous solubility and poor oral bioavailability, which leads to suboptimal absorption and limited clinical efficacy. Pharmaceutical nanotechnology offers a promising strategy to overcome these biopharmaceutical challenges. This research aimed to formulate a stable curcumin nanosuspension to significantly enhance its dissolution rate and bioavailability, and to subsequently evaluate its improved anti-inflammatory efficacy in an in vivo model. A curcumin nanosuspension was prepared using the high-pressure homogenization technique, stabilized with Poloxamer 188. The formulation was characterized for particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), and zeta potential. An in vivo anti-inflammatory study was conducted using the carrageenan-induced paw edema model in Wistar rats, comparing the efficacy of the nanosuspension against a conventional coarse curcumin suspension. The optimized nanosuspension exhibited a narrow particle size distribution with a mean diameter of 210 nm and a zeta potential of -28.5 mV, indicating good physical stability. The in vivo evaluation demonstrated that the curcumin nanosuspension produced a significantly greater inhibition of paw edema (72.4%) compared to the coarse curcumin suspension (28.1%) at the same dose (p < 0.01). Formulating curcumin into a nanosuspension is a highly effective strategy for overcoming its inherent bioavailability limitations. This nanotechnological approach dramatically enhances curcumin’s anti-inflammatory activity, validating its potential as a powerful therapeutic agent for inflammatory conditions.

Abstract

This study examines the antioxidant potential of three plants used by the people of Rote Ndao in skin care, namely Puteh Wood (Alstonia scholaris), Kesambi (Schleichera oleosa), and Moringa (Moringa oleifera). The background of the study was based on skin aging triggered by oxidative stress due to free radicals. The research objectives were to identify active phytochemical compounds, formulate the three extracts into creams, and analyze their potential synergism and antioxidant activity in a descriptive-exploratory manner. Extraction using 70% ethanol was carried out by maceration method, while phytochemical identification was applied by color reaction and precipitation tests for alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, terpenoids, and steroids. Vanishing cream-based cream formulation was successfully made with good physical characteristics, namely homogeneous, pH 6.8, and spreadability of 5.7 cm. Qualitative antioxidant activity test using DPPH method showed a rapid change of DPPH purple color to pale yellow in mixed extracts and creams, indicating stronger antioxidant activity than single extracts. The results indicate the presence of potential antioxidant compounds in all three plants and an indication of synergistic effects between extracts that may come from the interaction of different classes of phytochemical compounds. These findings provide an important basis for more in-depth quantitative studies in the development of natural ingredient-based antioxidant products.
