Abstract

This study uses electrocoagulation to investigate reducing heavy metal content in wastewater from discharging spent batteries. ICP-OES analysis shows that heavy metals exceed the environmental water standard. The electrocoagulation procedure was conducted within a reactor with a 500 mL volume and a rectifier with a 5 A current capacity. Three types of electrode material combinations were used: iron (Fe) and aluminium (Al) as well as Fe-Fe, Al-Al, and Fe-Al pairs with 1 cm in the distance by parallel monopolar cells. Alternating current was used with 30, 40, and 50 A/m2 current density. The best result shown in the Fe-Al electrode pair combination system at 40 A/m2 for 30 min contact time and removal efficiencies for Co, Cd, Ni, Zn, and As is 98.76, 90.73, 99.32, 97.93, and 97.78%, respectively, while for Hg it is 31.84%, even though only Cd is above the standard limit. The heavy metal bearing was confirmed using SEM-EDS in the floc and the precipitate residue. The dissolved electrode materials and electrical energy consumed are 0.32 g and 0.109 kWh/m3, respectively. This method can be a good alternative for treating wastewater compared to direct current electrocoagulation, where the electrode and energy will be less consumed.

Abstract

X social media is a microblogging platform for sharing brief thoughts and trends. It has become a focal point for expressing political views. The increased political engagement on X social media has facilitated the swift and extensive sharing of ideas. Still, it also brings the risk of spreading false information and hoaxes that can manipulate public opinion. Preventing fake news on social media is crucial because it can influence election outcomes and social stability. For example, X social media has been used during elections to spread hoaxes, such as false claims of vote tampering or misleading information about candidate qualifications. This study implements a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) due to its advantages in recognizing complex patterns and achieving high performance in tasks like classification. The dataset used in this study consists of 2,670 tweets. The dataset is divided into three subsets: 60% for training, 20% for testing, and 20% for validation. It also uses Term Frequency Relevance Frequency (TF-RF) and Term Frequency Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) weighting features to improve accuracy in detecting fake news. This study compares the TF-RF and TF-IDF weighting features using the CNN classification method on the topic of the 2024 election. The testing results indicate that both TF-RF and TF-IDF achieved similar overall performance, with TF-RF slightly excelling in recall and F1-score. At the same time, TF-IDF showed a marginally higher precision.

Abstract

Energy frequently relates to bring up in relation to the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target. Finding a way to achieve zero carbon emissions with an energy sustainability solution in line with the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is the goal. Indonesia and other nations follow the Energy Trilemma, which emphasized three primary factors—energy security, energy affordability, and sustainable energy—to become factors that are taken into account for planning and history in order to address all social, economic, and environmental aspects. More precisely, taking into consideration the capacities of both countries, South Korea and Indonesia have proposed several strategic alternatives, one of which is the EV battery project development strategy. In addition to resources and other forms of strategic support, South Korea invests in, owns, and controls technology for Indonesia. Indonesia is able to meet 52% of the world’s nickel demand. This study examines how the Hyundai consortia and the Indonesian Battery Corporation consortia worked together to build an EV battery project in Indonesia, which had an impact on both nations to achieve the solution of how to be one of the renewable energy solutions in response to climate change. Abstract

Indonesia significantly contributes to the global electric vehicle battery market due to its substantial medium- and low-grade nickel reserves. This study utilized saprolitic nickel ore from Halmahera, Maluku, Indonesia. However, the research on saprolite needs some improvements due to its complex mineral composition, which affected on the roasting process significantly. Therefore, a thorough understanding of the properties of laterite ores is critically important, particularly concerning laterite pre-reduction processes. The ore was finely sieved to a particle size of less than 100 mesh and then heated at temperatures of 250, 900, and 1150°C with the variation of reductant (anthracite and palm kernel charcoal). Extensive mineralogical analysis was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The analysis of saprolite showed that it contains about 1.82% nickel, 30.47% iron, 10-20% magnesium, 4.86% aluminum, and 8.1% silicon by weight. Its mineral composition is mainly 53.1% goethite, 38.3% lizardite, and 8.7% quartz. The study found that goethite in saprolite was transformed into hematite around 250°C. At 900°C, the forsterite was crystallized, and at 1150°C, the ferronickel was formed. The transformation of lizardite is important as it affected on nickel diffusion within the iron matrix, which impacted on the material's properties. A thermal upgrading method with reductants like anthracite and palm kernel charcoal was used at lower temperatures to enhance the properties of saprolite. These findings provided valuable insights into saprolite's mineralogical composition and behavior, potentially offering improvements in various industrial processes and applications.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with the largest Muslim population, has significant potential in integrating zakat as a complementary social welfare instrument to national tax policy. This article aims to disclose the implementation of zakat as a tax deduction in leading Indonesia to be a welfare state. This study uses a normative legal approach with a conceptual method to explore the potential for integrating zakat as an income tax deduction, in order to achieving a more equitable and inclusive distribution of welfare. The data used is secondary data in the form of documents, both those included in the category of primary legal materials such as regulations or secondary legal materials such as books and journals. The main findings of the study indicate that the concept of a welfare state in general seeks to realize public welfare through equitable distribution and public policies based on the principle of benefit for all citizens. and recognizing zakat as an income tax deduction can improve social justice for Muslims and strengthen national fiscal independence through direct optimization of welfare distribution. This approach is expected to not only increase active community participation in state policies, but also accelerate poverty alleviation and reduce the country's dependence on external financing. Thus, this study offers a synergistic model between zakat and taxes that has the potential to create a sustainable and inclusive welfare system for all levels of society.

Abstract

Video game is one of the entertainment medias chosen by most people today, many of which are played through computer devices. On computer devices, many video games are obtained through one of the game distribution platforms, namely Steam. However, Steam has several shortcomings, including those related to Steam reviews. On Steam reviews, you can see the rating of the game, but the rating does not really show the actual quality or condition of the game. As one example, there are users who give a high rating to a game, but in the comments column the user actually mentions the shortcomings of the game. To reduce or anticipate unclear reviews for users who want to try or buy the game, sentiment analysis on reviews is used. In this research, the output produced is information on the results of sentiment classification in filtering reviews, using the Multinomial Naïve Bayes algorithm and combined with the Gini Index feature selection. Sentiment classification is divided into two classes, namely recommended and not recommended classes. In this study, to test the sentiment classification system, a dataset containing reviews in the form of review sentences from Steam is used. The test results using Multinomial Naïve Bayes and Gini Index, can achieve the best accuracy of 60.29%.

Abstract

In the synthesis of nanoparticles, the phenomenon of agglomeration is an undesirable condition because the particles formed can be larger. The use of surfactants can prevent the occurrence of this phenomenon. In this study, the use of surfactants was studied in the synthesis of nanosilica from geothermal sludge. The method applied in the synthesis of nanosilica is the sol-gel method. A 1 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution was used to prepare the sol phase, while the gel phase was prepared at pH 5 using a 1.5 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution. The surfactants used were alkyl benzene sulfonate (ABS), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The surfactant added to the precursor solution was at the critical micelle concentration (CMC), where the CMC values for each surfactant were 0.15, 0.05, 0.50, and 1.00 wt% for ABS, CTAB, SDS, and PVP, respectively. The experimental results showed that the synthesis of nanosilica without surfactant could produce the product with a purity of 98.03%. Even though the purity is already high, the resulting product experiences agglomeration and surfactants were needed to minimize the occurrence of agglomeration in the product. The surfactant that gives the best product quality is PVP, where the particle size is in the range of 2.01–3.65 nm. However, the product produced with this PVP has a low purity, 56.67%. It is because the sodium chloride (NaCl) is trapped in the surfactant template.
