Abstract

Social Studies is often perceived by students as a less engaging subject, partly due to the dominance of lecture-based teaching methods that offer minimal contextual learning experiences. The low level of active student participation in the learning process impacts their conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) strategy in improving students’ conceptual understanding in Social Studies through a literature review of various recent research findings and scholarly publications. CTL, as a learning approach that emphasizes the connection between subject matter and students’ real-life contexts, is believed to address these pedagogical challenges. Analysis of the literature sources shows that the consistent implementation of CTL positively contributes to enhancing student engagement, learning outcomes, and the development of critical and analytical thinking skills. Learning that is linked to concrete social experiences encourages students to actively construct meaning, understand interconceptual relationships, and apply knowledge meaningfully in daily life. The conclusion of this review affirms that the CTL strategy is effective in creating a more interactive, meaningful, and deeply comprehensible Social Studies learning process. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive synthesis of previous findings, demonstrating that CTL is not only relevant as an innovative teaching method but also holds potential as a systematic approach to pedagogical transformation in Social Studies education at the elementary and secondary levels.

Abstract

The low readiness of teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum is a challenge in achieving educational transformation. Several internal and external factors are believed to influence this readiness, but they have not been widely studied in an integrated manner. This study aims to analyze in depth the influence of principal leadership, teacher professionalism, and training experience on teacher readiness in implementing the Independent Curriculum. This study uses a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The study population consisted of 174 teachers, and the sample comprised 121 teachers selected using the Yamane formula and the Proportional Random Sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis, classical assumption tests (normality, linearity, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity), as well as multiple linear regression analysis, t-test, and F-test. The study's results showed that principal leadership, teacher professionalism, and training experience had a significant influence, both partially and simultaneously, on teacher readiness. This study concludes that these three variables are important factors in enhancing teacher readiness in response to curriculum changes. The implications of these findings underscore the importance of education policy in strengthening principal leadership, enhancing professionalism, and providing relevant and sustainable training for teachers.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the strategies of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in enhancing students’ religious literacy. The focus of the research was on the planning, implementation, supporting and inhibiting factors, and the implications of teacher strategies for students’ religious literacy. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicated that in the planning stage, teachers designed learning activities by integrating religious literacy into both classroom instruction and extracurricular programs. In the implementation stage, teachers applied various strategies such as project-based learning, the habituation of religious practices, and the use of digital media to strengthen students’ engagement. Supporting factors included school facilities, parental involvement, and students’ motivation, while inhibiting factors consisted of limited instructional time, variations in students’ literacy levels, and technological challenges faced by teachers. The study concluded that the strategies of IRE teachers significantly improved students’ abilities in reading, understanding, and applying Islamic teachings in daily life. Moreover, these strategies fostered a culture of religious literacy and strengthened students’ religious character. The results of this study implied that such strategies could serve as a model for other schools and suggested future research to explore the long-term impacts of religious literacy programs.

Abstract

Education is an essential means of improving the quality of human resources to ensure the continuity of a nation. The use of appropriate learning models can foster students’ enjoyment of a subject, thereby increasing their motivation to complete assignments and making it easier for them to understand the lesson, which in turn leads to better learning outcomes. The Pair-Checks learning model is one of many strategies that teachers can implement to improve the quality of instruction. This study uses an experimental method with a quantitative approach, aiming to test the effect of a treatment on another variable under controlled conditions. Based on the research findings, the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Tugu Sempurna in the subject of IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies) reached the expected level after the implementation of the Pair-Checks learning model.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of transformational leadership style and motivation on employee performance, as well as the role of communication quality as an intervening variable. This type of research is quantitative associative causal, carried out at the Office of Public Works and Spatial Planning of Asahan Regency from September to November 2024, with the entire employee population of 145 people as a sample. The data analysis technique uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS) with SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results showed that transformational leadership style and motivation had a positive and significant influence on employee performance, with T-statistical values of 4.265 and 6.718 and P-values of 0.000 < 0.05, respectively. Transformational leadership style also has a significant influence on the quality of employee communication (T-statistic 6,428), as well as motivation (T-statistic 3,851), which means that improved leadership and motivation can improve the quality of communication. However, the quality of communication had no significant influence on employee performance (T-statistic 1.342, P-value 0.182 > 0.05) and was unable to intervene in the relationship between transformational leadership style and motivation on employee performance, with T-statistical values of 1.372 and 1.114, respectively. The implication of these findings is that employee performance improvement is more effectively achieved through a focus on developing transformational leadership styles and motivation, without relying on communication quality as an intermediary factor. This study recommends that institutions focus more on leadership strategies and motivation that directly impact performance to achieve optimal results.
