Abstract

Physics education often struggles to convey abstract concepts like static fluids, leading to low student interest and achievement. This study aims to develop an ethnophysics-based E-LKPD (Electronic Student Worksheet) that integrates physics with local culture, specifically the traditional process of making Siwalan dawet ice from Lamongan. The E-LKPD is designed to enhance learning motivation through an engaging, interactive edutainment approach. Using the ADDIE development model, only the Analyze, Design, and Development stages were conducted. This was due not only to time constraints but also because the research focused on product design and expert validation. Classroom implementation and evaluation were beyond the current research scope and are planned for future studies. Validation involved three expert lecturers who assessed presentation, content, and language using a Likert scale. Results indicated a very valid product, with an overall average score of 95.75% (presentation 91.75%, content 98.06%, language 97.22%). The E-LKPD was developed using the Liveworksheets platform, offering features like ElsQuiz, ElsAct, ElsLink, and ElsFo to promote interactivity and accessibility. Findings suggest that integrating ethnophysics and local culture into digital worksheets effectively improves student motivation in learning static fluid concepts.

Abstract

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach is a new form of teaching that places students in real-world situations around them by following the concept of interdisciplinary teaching. STEAM is highly relevant in supporting students' 21st-century skills. As is well known, 21st-century skills encourage students' critical thinking, communication, collaboration, innovation, and creativity. In physics learning, it is not uncommon for students to have difficulty understanding the subject. Teachers, as learning facilitators, are expected to be able to integrate STEAM into physics education. Teachers must have the skills to develop learning tools. Through research using the SLR method, this study aims to investigate the importance of teachers' competencies in implementing project-based STEAM learning in physics education. Project-based learning emphasizes collaborative learning activities among heterogeneous groups of students. The analysis results show that the implementation of the STEAM approach in learning is still limited. Physics teachers are important agents in equipping students with the necessary physics knowledge and scientific investigation skills. Therefore, physics teachers need support in improving their understanding of STEAM. In learning activities involving project-based STEAM, it is known that it can increase students' creativity and innovation in problem solving.

Abstract

The siwalan dawet ice is a form of local wisdom that contains rich physics concepts and has potential applications in physics learning. To date, there has been no study that explicitly explores the physics concepts embedded in this local wisdom. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze the physics concepts involved in the process of making the siwalan dawet ice. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method through an analytical approach. Data were collected using three techniques: literature review, observation, and interviews, and were subsequently triangulated to enhance the validity of the findings. Qualitative data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that the process of making the siwalan dawet ice involves several physics concepts, including hydrostatic pressure, Pascal’s Law, Archimedes’ Law, density, and temperature and heat. These findings indicate that the siwalan dawet ice has strong potential to be integrated into physics learning within the Merdeka Curriculum as a local wisdom–based learning resource that supports contextual and meaningful learning. This study implies that incorporating local cultural practices into physics instruction can provide concrete learning experiences, enhance student engagement, and serve as an alternative approach to facilitating students’ understanding of abstract physics concepts. Further research is recommended to examine the effectiveness of this learning resource in improving students’ motivation and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the actual conditions of instructional practices, levels of religious moderation literacy, and emotional maturity among students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Sumenep Regency. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating descriptive–exploratory qualitative methods with quantitative survey data. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation across five Madrasah Ibtidaiyah representing both mainland and island regions. The findings indicate that learning practices in Sumenep have adopted the principles of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) and local wisdom–based approaches; however, these practices remain predominantly focused on cognitive and socio-cultural aspects, with limited emphasis on the affective domain. This condition is reflected in the average scores of religious moderation literacy (2.41) and emotional maturity (2.57) on a four-point scale, suggesting that students’ understanding of tolerance and self-regulation is still largely conceptual and has not yet reached the stage of behavioral internalization. Madurese cultural values such as tengka’ (mutual respect) and bhâghus (politeness) demonstrate strong potential as reflective learning resources to strengthen students’ moderate character and emotional stability. These findings highlight the need for the development of an integrative learning model based on local wisdom that systematically integrates cognitive, affective, and social dimensions through stages of value orientation, exploration, collaborative learning, positive behavioral modeling, and reflective evaluation. Such a model is expected to foster a generation that is knowledgeable, empathetic, and characterized by moderate attitudes in accordance with the socio-cultural context of Sumenep. This study remains exploratory in nature and has not yet reached the effectiveness testing stage; therefore, further comprehensive research with more rigorous quantitative analysis is required.

Abstract

This systematic literature review examines the integration of local wisdom into picture storybook media to enhance Reading comprehension among elementary school students. The study synthesizes findings from 24 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025, focusing on the effectiveness, pedagogical advantages, and implementation challenges of culturally responsive picture storybooks in Indonesian elementary education contexts. The review follows PRISMA guidelines for systematic review, examining studies that integrate local cultural elements, including folklore, traditional values, and regional narratives, into visual storytelling materials. Findings indicate that picture storybooks embedded with local wisdom consistently demonstrate significant improvements in Reading comprehension, with effect sizes ranging from medium to large across various studies. The integration of familiar cultural contexts enhances student engagement, motivation, and understanding of the context of Reading materials. Key advantages include increased relevance to students’ lived experiences, strengthened cultural identity, and improved literacy outcomes across diverse demographic settings. However, limitations persist in terms of geographical scope, scalability challenges, and the need for sustained teacher professional development. This review contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting culturally responsive teaching approaches in literacy education. It provides recommendations for researchers, educators, and policymakers seeking to implement culturally grounded Reading materials in elementary education settings.
