Abstract

This study explores how the implementation of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) influences teacher character formation in two public senior high schools SMA Negeri 1 Namorambe and SMA Negeri 1 Kutalimbaru through a multisite qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis to identify differences in understanding, practices, and contextual factors affecting curriculum application. The findings reveal that both schools share a fundamental understanding of the Independent Curriculum’s core principles flexibility, differentiated learning, and strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile (P5) yet their implementations differ significantly. At SMA Negeri 1 Namorambe, the curriculum is primarily viewed as an administrative requirement, emphasizing discipline, responsibility, and individual independence. Conversely, SMA Negeri 1 Kutalimbaru interprets it as a framework for creativity, collaboration, and contextual learning, fostering innovative, reflective, and socially aware teacher characteristics. Contextual factors such as leadership style, socio-cultural environment, and resource availability play a critical role in shaping these outcomes. The study concludes that participatory leadership and a culture of collaboration enhance curriculum effectiveness and teacher character growth, while administrative rigidity and limited resources constrain innovation. Overall, the Independent Curriculum demonstrates flexibility, enabling diverse pathways to professional and character development among teachers across different school settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of internal conflicts and the conflict-management strategies implemented by the Principal of MAS Al Washliyah Desa Pakam, Medang Deras District, Batu Bara Regency. Internal conflicts were found to occur repeatedly within the madrasah and involved various organizational components, including subject teachers, administrative staff, homeroom teachers, and guidance and counseling (BK) teachers. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that conflicts stem from weak interdepartmental communication, imbalanced workloads, differing perceptions of roles and responsibilities, and the absence of systematic internal coordination. The principal employs dialogic, collaborative, and democratic approaches to conflict resolution through deliberative forums, direct supervision, and rapid communication via digital media. These strategies are reinforced by Islamic values such as syura (consultation), ethical communication, and mutual respect, which enhance the effectiveness of conflict management. The study concludes that inclusive, participatory, and communicative leadership plays a critical role in maintaining organizational stability, strengthening professional relationships, and preventing persistent conflicts. Therefore, systematic improvements in the madrasah’s governance are necessary to support the creation of a harmonious and productive educational environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of reward systems, communication culture, and intrinsic motivation on the institutional effectiveness of Islamic higher education institutions in Binjai City, emphasizing the mediating role of transformational leadership. The research is motivated by the importance of professional and high-quality educational management in addressing globalization challenges and meeting societal demands for higher education. Data were collected from 83 respondents, comprising lecturers at Institut Syekh Abdul Halim Hasan Binjai and Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah Al-Washliyah, using a closed questionnaire. The analysis was conducted through simple correlation, multiple correlation, and path model testing. The findings reveal that reward systems, communication culture, and intrinsic motivation positively and significantly influence transformational leadership, contributing 2.9%, 2.3%, and 1.8%, respectively. Intrinsic motivation also directly impacts institutional effectiveness by 7%. However, other factors, such as organizational context and work culture, also play significant roles in determining overall institutional effectiveness. The practical implications of this study suggest the need for policies that support strengthening reward systems, fostering effective communication culture, and enhancing lecturers' intrinsic motivation to improve the institutional effectiveness of Islamic higher education. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanism of competency development and the supervision patterns of Islamic Education supervisors (PAI) in supporting the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Simalungun Regency. Using a qualitative approach with a multi-site study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving PAI supervisors, teachers, principals, and related parties from three non-driving public elementary schools. The results of the study indicate that the role of PAI supervisors has contributed to improving teachers' understanding of learning tools, assessment, and the strengthening of religious character, although the communication pattern applied is still predominantly top-down and not yet fully participatory. The main challenges encountered include the limited technological competence of teachers, infrequent supervision due to the wide coverage of mentees, and uneven support in terms of facilities and institutional resources. This study emphasizes the need to develop a coaching and mentoring-based guidance model and to optimize inter-institutional collaboration through the use of information technology as an effort to strengthen supervisors' capacity as agents of change. These findings have implications for formulating a more adaptive, sustainable, and contextual supervisory guidance strategy for PAI supervisors in supporting the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in non-pioneer regions.
