Abstract

ABSTRACT The prevalence of obesity among adolescents is increasing. One major factor is the consumption of junk food. The ease of serving, variety, better taste, and marketing make teenagers prefer to consume junk food rather than foods that contain healthy nutrition. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison between obese and non-obese students on junk food consumption at Tarakanita Gading Serpong senior high school. This study is a cross-sectional study with a total of 162 students. Students were asked to fill out a questionnaire related to junk food consumption and take measurements of body weight and height. The results of these measurements were mapped onto the CDC growth chart to obtain their nutritional status. There was a significant mean difference between obese and non-obese students in terms of junk food consumption (p<0.05). Students should be aware of the impact of junk food consumption on health through continuous education, provision of healthy canteens in schools, and increased sports activities. Keywords: Junk Food, Obesity, Body Mass Index, Senior High School  ABSTRAK Prevalensi obesitas di kalangan remaja semakin meningkat. Abstract

ABSTRACT According to the World Health Organization's European Regional Obesity Report 2022, obesity is a complex multifactorial condition caused by excess adiposity and is linked to an elevated risk of noncommunicable diseases. Riskesdas Jambi Province in 2018 reported that 7.8% of adolescents were overweight and 2.7% were obese. Ultra-processed food undergoing extensive processing is considered obesogenic due to its high calorie, sugar, and salt content. This study aims to determine the mean difference of body mass index (BMI) among students who ate frequent and infrequent in Xaverius 1 senior high school students in Jambi City. This study was a cross-sectional design with a sample size of 143 students. Data collection was carried out using a consecutive sampling technique and were analyzed using Mann-Whitney. In this study, there was no significant difference in mean of body mass index between students who frequently consumed UPF and those who rarely consumed UPF (p>0,05). Further researches are recommended with more precise method to see more association of risk factor toward obesity in adolescent. The difference in Mean Body Mass Index between Frequent and Infrequent Ultra Processed Food Consumption Groups was 0,68 (-0,76 – 2,12) points. Abstract

Anemia is a multifaceted health condition characterized by a deficiency in the number or quality of red blood cells or hemoglobin concentration that can cause significant impairment to cognitive and physical growth. Physical development and social welfare of school-aged children are profoundly impacted by anemia. Several risk factors including nutritional deficiencies (with particular emphasis on iron, vitamins A, and B12), genetic susceptibility, inflammatory mechanisms, and parasitic infection. In Indonesia, anemia is prevalent among children aged 5 to 12 years at a rate of 23%. An alarming prevalence of malnutrition and cognitive decline in low-income regions can be attributed to parasitic infections. In Indonesia, worm infections are prevalent among elementary school pupils at a rate of 29.7%. This demonstrates the criticality of deworming programs in academic institutions. A balanced and healthy nutritional intake is paramount in order to prevent vitamin deficiency. Vitamin supplementation can be given in conditions where optimal intake is not sufficient. This community service was conducted at SDN 01 Ciherang District, Cianjur, West Java. The present activity employed the PDCA method to assess for iron deficiency anemia, and vitamin supplementation. This task entails conducting a physical assessment and completing a survey. Result of screening showed that 13 students had anemia (8.6%), 41 students (27.14%) did not take worm medicine, and 86 students (56.9%) did not take vitamins.

Abstract

Fecal incontinence (FI) is a common problem among the elderly, affecting their quality of life. Identifying reliable biomarkers like Apolipoprotein A (Apo-A) could improve management strategies, as its anti-inflammatory properties may help predict the severity of FI. This study aims to assess Apo-A as a lipid biomarker for predicting the severity of fecal incontinence, using the Fecal Incontinence Severity Index (FISI) for measurement. This cross-sectional study involved 93 elderly participants at Bina Bhakti Nursing Home, who exhibited varying FI levels. The severity was evaluated using the FISI, while serum lipid profiles were analyzed to measure Apo-A levels. We assessed Apo-A’s predictive ability for FI severity through the area under the curve (AUC) from the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The state variable was set at 0 on the FISI scale, indicating the absence of FI. The AUC for Apo-A was found to be 0.631, with a p-value of 0.031, indicating that higher Apo-A levels are significantly linked to the absence of fecal incontinence. Apo-A is a promising biomarker for predicting FI severity, although its predictive capacity is limited. Future studies should investigate combining Apo-A with other inflammatory markers to enhance prediction accuracy.

Abstract

Visceral fat has a significant impact on metabolic health. Elevated visceral fat area could increase the risk of hyperuricemia, which may lead to further metabolic complications. The study aims to assess the relationship between uric acid levels and visceral fat accumulation and the subsequent effect on subcutaneous fat distribution in the trunk, arms, and legs among the elderly population. This study involved 61 elderly participants at Hana Nursing Home. Serum uric acid levels were measured using point-of-care testing (POCT). Body composition, including visceral and subcutaneous fat, was assessed using the Omron body composition monitor. Spearman correlation analysis evaluated the relationship between uric acid levels, visceral fat, and subcutaneous fat in different body regions, including the trunk, arms, and legs. This study has demonstrated a positive correlation between uric acid levels and visceral fat accumulation (r = 0.285, p = 0.026), subcutaneous fat in the trunk (r = 0.804, p < 0.001), arms (r = 0.752, p < 0.001), and legs (r = 0.827, p < 0.001), suggesting that having a high amount of visceral fat can be an indicator of having more subcutaneous fat as well.

Abstract

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a prevalent issue among elderly women, significantly impacting their quality of life. Handgrip strength, an indicator of overall muscle strength, is understudied in its role concerning UI. Utilizing handgrip strength to measure overall muscle strength, including pelvic floor muscles, introduces a novel approach to supporting continence maintenance in elderly women. The aim is to determine the correlation between handgrip strength and UI severity among elderly women, using the International Consultation on Incontinence – Short Form (ICIQ-SF) for measurement. This study involved 74 elderly female participants at Bina Bhakti Nursing Home. Spearman’s correlation was employed to analyze the relationship between handgrip strength (in kilograms), measured with the Omron Handgrip Strength device on the right hand, and UI severity was assessed through the ICIQ-SF scoring questionnaire, with scores ranging from 0 to 21. Findings indicated a statistically significant negative correlation between handgrip strength and UI severity (r = -0.245, p = 0.035). This suggests that higher handgrip strength correlates with lower UI severity. The study found a significant correlation between handgrip strength and UI in elderly women, indicating that strength-building interventions may reduce UI severity.
