Abstract

This study aims to identify and measure the influence of mother tongue use on Indonesian language learning outcomes among Grade VII students at UPT SMP Negeri 4 Baranti. The research employed a quantitative method with a true-experimental posttest-only control design. The sample consisted of 40 students, divided into two groups: 20 students in the experimental group who received instruction integrating the mother tongue (Bugis language) and 20 students in the control group who learned conventionally using Indonesian. Data collection techniques included multiple-choice tests (posttest) and questionnaires. The results showed a significant difference between the two groups. The experimental group achieved a higher average learning outcome score compared to the control group. Data analysis using the independent sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.008 (p < 0.05) and an average score difference of 10.9, indicating that H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. This proves there is a significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, the questionnaire results also revealed positive student responses toward the use of the mother tongue in the learning process. In conclusion, the use of the mother tongue has been proven to have a significant positive effect on improving Indonesian language learning outcomes for Grade VII students at UPT SMP Negeri 4 Baranti.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the most frequent errors students make in writing recount texts. This study used a descriptive method with quantitative data analysis techniques to answer the questions posed. The scope of this research is limited to the grammatical analysis and writing mechanism of the components of the fourth recount text written by third year students of UMS Rappang. These errors are classified into six categories: errors in the use of verb forms; thr use of the article; use of prepositions; noun pluralization; use of pronouns; use of conjunctions. The findings of the study showed that the most frequent errors students made were in the use of verb forms, punctuation marks, prepositions, nouns, articles and pronouns. It can be concluded that students have not mastered grammar well. They face many problems in English in general and in writing English in particular.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using PowToon learning media on improving elementary school students' learning motivation and listening skills compared to conventional learning methods. The study used a quasi-experimental design with two classes: a control class and an experimental class. The population and sample in this study were all 81 upper grade students divided into a control class of 29 students and an experimental class of 52 students. Data collection techniques in this study included tests, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis technique used the IBM Statistics application with the N-Gain Score formula. The analysis results showed that the experimental class using PowToon experienced a significant improvement in listening learning outcomes with an average N-Gain score of 0.79 (79.80%), which is considered high. In contrast, the control class only achieved an average N-Gain of 0.18 (18.67%), which is in the low category. Student learning motivation in the experimental class also showed significantly better results, with 96% of students in the excellent category, compared to the control class, where the majority (87%) were in the poor category. Furthermore, students' listening skills in the experimental class improved significantly, as evidenced by observations and questionnaires that recorded increased activity, focus, and understanding of the material. The data also showed that PowToon media was able to create a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment, encouraging students to be more active in asking questions, discussing, and expressing their opinions. Overall, the results of this study indicate that the use of PowToon learning media is effective in significantly increasing students' learning motivation and listening skills compared to conventional learning methods. Therefore, PowToon is recommended as an alternative innovative learning medium in elementary schools to create more meaningful and enjoyable learning.

Abstract

Ebony (Diospyros celebica. Bakh) is a native plant of Indonesia that is used as a traditional medicine for diabetes mellitus. Previous studies state that ethanol extract from ebony leaves significantly reduced blood glucose levels of diabetic rats induced by alloxan. This ability is thought to be caused by secondary metabolites which is phenolic and flavonoid compound. However, research related to structure compounds in extract and composition of solvent variations in the extraction process to get the most optimal activity and also their correlation with total phenolic and flavonoid compounds has not been carried out. This study aimed to evaluate the composition of the optimum solvent in the extraction process and also to know the structure compounds contained in the extract. In the present study, we extracted the ebony leaves with three solvents of different polarity (ethanol-water), i.e. ethanol 50% (EtOH), EtOH 70%, and EtOH 96%. Quantitative estimation of total phenolic and flavonoid contents. These extracts were future evaluated for their activity and the content of compounds in the extract was identified using LCMS/MS. The results showed that phenolic compounds that have been identified in ebony leaf extract are methyl gallate and (-)-Epiafzelechin 3-gallate and we found there were significant differences in all test parameters between the three extracts which is EtOH 96% extract gave the best.

Abstract

The research has been conducted to characterize chitosan isolated from shrimp shell and also to determine the ability of chitosan in preserving organoleptic parameters of white tofu. Isolation of chitin was performed through two stages, namely deproteination and demineralization. Chitosan is obtained by adding NaOH on chitin in deacetylation process. The obtained chitosan was characterized using several methods. Molecular weight of obtained chitosan is 15 kDa with the degree of deacetylation is 80.3%, whereas analysis of water level, ash, and protein content are 0.3%, 32.1%, 3.79% in consecutively. The optimum concentration to preserve organoleptic parameters of white tofu is 15 minutes in 1% of chitosan.

Abstract

The Papuan indigenous plant Cryptocarya massoy (Oken) Kosterm has substantial commercial significance as an essential oil source. Plant growth regulators (PGRs) are essential for regulating growth responses including callus development, and tissue culture offers a viable means of reproducing this species. Kinetin, a cytokinin-type PGR, is particularly important in promoting cell division and callus development. This study aimed to evaluate the growth response of C. massoy explants under varying kinetin concentrations and determine the optimal concentration for callus induction. The experiment utilized a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three kinetin treatments: 0.5 mg/L (A), 1.0 mg/L (B), and 1.5 mg/L (C). Results showed that 1.0 mg/L kinetin achieved the highest explant survival rate (71%) and the lowest browning rate (8%), compared to 13% browning at 0.5 mg/L and 1.5 mg/L. However, the highest callus formation (0.25 average callus) with a compact, brownish texture was observed at 1.5 mg/L. The 0.5 mg/L concentration consistently exhibited the lowest response across all parameters. These findings indicate that 1.0 mg/L kinetin is optimal for enhancing explant survival and minimizing browning, while 1.5 mg/L is more effective for inducing callus formation, underscoring the importance of kinetin concentration in optimizing C. massoy tissue culture protocols.

Abstract

The emergency of language death is something that must be anticipated, one of the ways that can be taken to protect the language is by compiling a dictionary of the language (language documentation and revitalization). This study aims to support the preservation of the Cia-Cia language, a regional language of Southeast Sulawesi that is endangered. The UGM Master of Linguistics study program community service team collaborates with the Officers of Southeast Sulawesi language Institution compiled a bilingual Indonesian-Cia-Cia dictionary. The assistance provided is by holding workshops involving lexicography experts, students, and native speakers of the Cia-Cia language over a period of six months. The method was carried out online through a step-by-step procedure, including the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The result of the study is a bilingual Indonesian–Cia-Cia Dictionary containing 2,000 entries. It is hoped that this activity will serve as an initial step in the ongoing efforts to document and revitalize the Cia-Cia language in the future.
