Abstract

This paper is an idea to implement a knowledge management system for a real action for optimization efforts of private higher institutions due to the development of national human resources. Knowledge management is a technique of organizing knowledge within an organization. The goal is to accelerate the innovation by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of knowledge absorption through knowledge sharing process. Four activities underlying knowledge management system are using knowledge, finding knowledge, creating knowledge and packaging knowledge. These processes required to convert tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge that can be transferred to other people. Regarding to the background of the Consortium members who come from all corners of the archipelago, a web based knowledge management system is the best option. The system is built on many aspects, but can do a variety of simplifications that can be realized in the form of knowledge management portal. To make this system developed well, some attitudes need to be cultivated to create, capture, capture, store, process and disseminate knowledge.

Abstract

Powdery mildews are plant diseases caused by fungi, including Sphaerotheca fuliginea Poll. They cause a decrease on leaves health. Plant resistance to Sphaerotheca fuliginea Poll. might have a relationship to leaf anatomical structure, especially to epidermis. Therefore, the aim of this research was to characterize epidermal leaf structure of resistant and susceptible cultivars. This study used two resistant cultivars (PI 371795 and PMAR), one susceptible cultivar (Action 434) and two other cultivars (Fresh 848 and Sakata 144) which are not known their characteristic to powdery mildews. The fifth leaves (counted from the cotyledon) were collected from melon plants which reached early generative development. Leaf epidermal slides were prepared semi permanently. The results showed that the morphological leaves of resistant cultivars have dendatus leaf edges, while the susceptible one has repandus leaf edges. Anatomically, the leaves of PI 371795 had upper epidermal cells with wavy edges, but not in the others. Both PI 371795 and PMAR 5 had irregular shape of lower epidermal cells with curved edges, while leaf epidermal cells from susceptible cultivar tended to have irregular polygonal upper and lower epidermal cells with straight edges and shorter non-glandular trichomes. PMAR 5 had long glandular trichomes. There was significant difference between cultivars in the average of stomata number, the average of stomata index and trichome number on the lower epidermal tissue, but not on the lower epidermal tissue. In the lower epidermis, PI 371 and PMAR 5 had lower average of stomata number and stomata index compared to Action 434. PMAR 5 had higher number of trichomes than susceptible cultivar (Action 434). Meanwhile, Fresh 848 cultivar tends to have similar characters to resistant ones in terms of leaf edges, lower epidermal shape, stomata number and index. Sakata 144 had similar characters to those the susceptible one in terms on leaf edges, lower epidermal cells shape, stomata number and index, but not in trichome number. It may be assumed that the first protection of melon against S. fuliginea Poll. is located on lower epidermal tissue.

Abstract

This research investigated the use of YouTube video clips to develop the understanding of culture for students in American Culture class in a private university in Bandung. It sought to answer two research problems; first, students’ perceptions towards the use of YouTube video clips to develop their understanding of American culture; second, to what extent watching YouTube video clips supported the students’ understanding of American culture. The participants of this research were 61 undergraduate students of the English Department aged between 18-21 years. There were two types of data collection used in the research. First, data were taken from the weekly learning logs of the students containing three to five questions and one or two YouTube video clips, which were related to the topics of the textbook in the classroom. Second, the data from the open-ended questionnaire which were distributed to the students at the end of the semester. The qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that the students’ understanding of American culture has improved due to watching YouTube video clips that contain authentic cultural information from American life events and news shown in the clips. This research also provides useful information for teachers in teaching culture for a better learning process, which focuses on the use of YouTube video clips in the classroom.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa efektivitas & kontribusi Pajak Reklame dalam upaya meningkatkan Pendapatan Asli Daerah (PAD) Kota Batu. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara kepada kepala bidang pajak daerah, penanggung jawab pajak reklame. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Dengan menghitung efektivitas & kontribusi pajak reklame Kota Batu. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa efektivitas & kontribusi pajak reklame di Kota Batu masih kurang optimal dan belum memberikan pengaruh secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan Pendapatan Asli Daerah (PAD) Kota Batu. Dilihat dari kontribusi pajak reklame dibawah 10%.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to measure risks to identify company's assets and analyze risks, and to do strategic planning of security protection and minimize risk. Research used case study by reading materials dealing with the OCTAVE-S method. Observation was done directly to the relating parties through an interview, as well as using a questionnaire based on the OCTAVE-S method. The result obtained from this research is risk management of information technology in order to minimize the risks. Based on the findings obtained, it is expected company can identify potential risks and mitigate them efficiently and effectively.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analysis the influences of learning motivation, discipline and environment simultaneously toward student’s achievements on accountant. This research uses causal descriptive with the numbers of population were 170 students, this research used census technique sampling. Result of this research is to show the influences of learning motivation, discipline and environment simultaneously toward student’s achievement on accountant in eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Palu which is shown by double determination  adjustment coefficient  score ( Adj. R- Square (R) was 0,659.  This score shows that three independent variable in this research have big influences was 65,9% toward students achievement on accountant. While others was 34,1% has influenced by  other variable such as emotional question , spiritual question, culture and the leader style which wasn’t being observed but also give influence to students achievement on accountant  in SMA Negeri 3 Palu .

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the quality of service in providing insurance to customers at PT Asuransi Sinarmas Branch Palu. Informants in this study were 8 people, consisting of four employees and four customers. Informant selection technique used in this study was purposive selection. Data collection techniques in this study were: observations, interviews and documentations. The results show that the quality of service in providing insurance at PT Asuransi Sinarmas Branch Palu based on research results had not been implemented to the fullest. This was evidenced with five indicators used as benchmarks in this study: three indicators, namely responsiveness, physical evidence (tangible), and empathy (empathy), had been supporting the quality of service maximally. While, the other indicators had not been implemented to the fullest, namely assurance: PT Asuransi Sinarmas Branch Palu did not provide services in accordance with the specified time in terms of vehicle loss claim due to delays in spare parts delivery from the central office; and reliability: there was a lack of training or education provided by PT Asuransi Sinarmas Branch Palu to its personnels in order to support and improve the quality of service.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) mensintesis khitosan dan khitosan berat molekul rendah dari limbah udang putih (Penaeus merguiensis) 2) mengkarakterisasi khitosan dan khitosan berat molekul rendah, 3) menguji aktivitas khitosan berat molekul rendah terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen. Sintesis khitosan dilakukan melalui proses deproteinasi, demineralisasi, dan deasetilasi. Selanjutnya dilakukan Karakterisasi terhadap khitosan yang meliputi rendemen, kadar air, kadar abu, berat molekul, daya ikat air, daya ikat lemak, kelarutan, viskositas, derajat polimerisasi, derajat deasetilasi, dan struktur menngunakan FTIR. Sintesis khitosan berat molekul rendah dilakukan melalui proses hidrolisis secara enzimatis menggunakan enzim papain. Karakterisasi khitosan berat molekul rendah dilakukan dengan menghitung rendemen, berat molekul, derajat polimerisasi, derajat deasetilasi, dan struktur mennggunakan FTIR. Uji aktivitas antibakteri khitosan berat molekul rendah dilakukan terhadap bakteri S. epidermidis dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Khitosan dapat disintesis dari limbah udang putih melalui proses deproteinasi, demineralisasi, dan deasetilasi. 2) Karakteristik fisik khitosan yang dihasilkan adalah rendemen 52,82%, kadar air  (2,3±0,1)%, kadar abu 4,038%, berat molekul 2.679,57 g/mol, daya ikat air (590±21,3)%, daya ikat minyak (569±4,29)%, kelarutan (28±3,2)%, viskositas (1,33 ± 0,04) cp, derajat polimerisasi 16,627,dan derajat deasetilasi 82,72% dan karakteristik fisik khitosan berat molekul rendah. 3) Khitosan berat molekul rendah dapat disintesis dengan cara hidrolisis enzimatis menggunakan enzim papain. 4) Karakteristik khitosan berat molekul rendah meliputi rendemen 60%, berat molekul 2.401,80 g/mol, derajat polimerisasi 14,903, dan derajat deasetilasi 83,71%. 5) Dari aspek struktur kimia, produk khitosan, Khitosan berat molekul rendah dapat dibuktikan dari analisis FTIR. 6) Uji aktivitas antibakteri khitosan berat molekul rendah terhadap bakteri S. epidermidis pada konsentrasi 0,4% memiliki daya hambat 8,71 mm, konsentrasi 0,6% memiliki daya hambat 10,38 mm dan konsentrasi 0,8% memiliki daya hambat 15,91 mm. Kata Kunci: Limbah udang, khitosan, berat molekul rendah, hidrolisis, papain, antibakteri

Abstract

Physiological studies on Rojolele rice were conducted after the application of nitrogen fertilizer and ethephon at different doses. Application of nitrogen fertilizer is one of the most important measurements to improve plant growth and yield of rice. Ethylene which has flowering initiate roles are induced by ethephon. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of nitrogen fertilizer and ethephon on growth, flowering and yield of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Rojolele). The experiment was carried out using Complete Randomized Design with 2 factors, which each factor consisted of four levels. The first factor was doses of urea as nitrogen source 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1. The second factor was doses of ethephon 0; 100; 200 and 400 mg l-1. Measured parameters were plant height, tiller number, plant biomass, root shoot ratio, flowering time, yield and grain size. The application of nitrogen fertilizer improved the plant growth of Rojolele rice. Plant height, tiller number, plant biomass, panicle length, and number of grains increased by the increasing doses of nitrogen, but this factor did not significantly affect on grain size. Ethephon application reduced plant height and delayed flowering time. However, it simultaneously increased tillers when compared at the same N dose. Interaction between nitrogen fertilizer and ethephon gave significantly effects on the plant height and number of grains per panicle, but there were no significant effect on the rice grain size.

Abstract

Abstract: Frequent content words in a mini-corpus of 131 Indonesian children’s storybooks, which resulted in a corpus of 134, 320 words, were investigated. The result was used to identify what English collocations to teach first to Indonesian preschool children. The data were run through a collocation menu in MonoConc Pro, a corpus program. To identify the frequent collocations in the corpus, the preceding and following words from each frequent lemma were analyzed. All the data were calculated in terms of the whole corpus and normalized per 100,000 occurrences. The result showed that the children were already exposed to various collocations; however, it turned out that several English and Indonesian collocations were not similar in terms of syntax and morphology. Teachers cannot literally introduce those collocations to children. Key words: corpus, frequent collocation, content words
