Abstract

This research aims to 1) analyze and describe the language skills of early childhood with a parenting style provided with gadgets, and 2) analyze and describe the language skills of early childhood with a parenting style without gadgets. The type and approach used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data was obtained through observation and interviews as well as printed books and documentation. The data source comes from kindergarten or PAUD children in Karanganyar Regency. Data collection techniques through observation, documentation and interviews. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman method, collecting, presenting, reducing and drawing conclusions from samples selected using incidental sampling. The data validation technique uses triangulation techniques. The research results show that children who grow up with gadgets have limited linguistic abilities, especially in articulating emotions and making coherent statements, even though they can pronounce words clearly. Meanwhile, parenting children without gadgets also face difficulties in syntax, syntax and semantics, so they have difficulty forming coherent phrases and sentences and articulating their desires clearly.

Abstract

An experiment to evaluate the growth and yield of two sweetpotato clones in intercropping with maize was conducted in IPB experimental farm in Sawah Baru from December 2004 to April 2005. In intercropping, the two sweetpotato clones of CIP-1 and CIP-6 were planted among to maize rows.  Planting space of sweet potato was 100 cm x 25 cm and maize was 100 cm x 12.5 cm in a plot size of 3 m x 3 m. Besides, the two crops were also planted in monoculture. The experiment was designed as a Randomized Block Design (RBD) and replicated three times. Dry matter of stem, leaves, and roots of the two sweet potato clones in intercropping were lower than in monoculture.  The same response occurred for yield of storage root.  The storage root weight of sweet potato clone, respectively, in monoculture and intercropping was 1.350 and 2.533 kg plot-1 of CIP-1 and 3.167 and 11.083 kg plot-1 of CIP-6.  On the other hand, there was no significance difference in growth and yield of maize in monoculture (3.35 kg plot-1) and intercropping (3.13 kg plot-1).  Land equivalent ratio of the intercropping maize with CIP-1 and CIP-6 were 1.7 and 1.4, respectively.  It means that land productivity can be increased by those intercropping.   Key words: Sweet potato clones, intercropping, maize

Abstract

The research was conducted to study the correlation between deficit of evapotranspiration and yield decreasing.   Factorial experiment was arranged in Randomized Block Design.  First factor was irrigation frequency of 1, 2, 4 and 6 days.  Second factor were nine upland rice lines.  Evapotranspiration was measured with simple lysimeter based on water balance. There was positive correlation between deficit of evapotranspiration and yield decreasing. Defisit of evapotranspiration as much as 240.06 mm caused yield decreasing of 90% and dry matter weight decreasing of 72.5%. The relation between total evapotranspiration (E, mm) and dry matter weight (DM, g/plant) was DM = 0.0245 E + 13.85.  Water use efficiency or yield and evapotranspiration ratio correlated with leaf width and sum of seed each panicle  positively .  Increasing leaf width and sum of seed each panicle could increase water use efficiency.    Key Words : evapotranspiration, water use efficiency, upland rice, lysimeter.

Abstract

Intercropping system of maize and cassava has been practiced widely by Indonesian farmer on dry land. Competition between the plant will happen in the system. Field experiment to understand about the competition has been conducted.   Field experiment of growing maize (Arjuna, Pioneer 4, and Cargill 9 in various planting densities) and cassava (Adira 1) was conducted for monoculture and intercropped plants.  Intercropped cassava increased intraspesific competition of maize.  Yield of maize variety of Arjuna, Pioner 4, and Cargill 9 decreased by about 9.7%, 6.7%, and 16.9% respectively. Maize also reduced growth and yield of cassava. When intercropped with Arjuna, pioner 4, and Cargill 9 at the highest density (80 000 plants ha-1), yield of cassava tuber decreased by about 40.6%, 43% and 64.3%, respectively. However, the intercropping still gave a better land productivity, where land equivalent ratio (LER) was larger than 1.0.    Key words: intercropping, competition, maize, cassava

Abstract

LEISA refers to forms of agriculture that seek to optimize the use of locally available resources by combining the different components of the farm system (i.e. plants, animals, soil, water, climate and people) so that they complement each other and have the greatest possible synergetic effects: In the system of LEISA proposed here, ecological risks generated by the external inputs are avoided; and reversally, the farm system performance is enriched by the use of internal inputs (including by products)p reduced in the agro-ecosystem. The external inputs in the form of agro-chemicals (inorganic fertilizers and pesticides) are used in a limited to replace nutrients transported out of the agro-ecosystem through harvest. Selecting a hypothetical model of LEISA by integrating crop production (1.25 ha),fish nursery (0.50 ha), and duck husbandry (1000 ducks at the dike of pond) shows that the system being feasible. The hypothetical model needs investation cost as much as Rp 64 195 000 and operational cost of Rp 41289825, giving a total cost of Rp 105484825 (as lending cost). Based on the estimation of monthly cash flow with annual DF 18% and grace period of 11 months, the hypothetical model gives NPV at the 36th month = Rp 38 556 960, Net B/C = 1.43, IRR = 39.42. and payback periods = 25 months. Abstract

Mexican sunflower (Tithonia diversifolia) is a invansive weed but it can be used as continuous and on-farm source of nutrient for organic farming system. The objective of this study was to investigate growth and biomass production of T. diversifolia with different rates of chicken manure and plant spacings. The experiment was conducted at Cikarawang, Bogor, on Inceptisol soil type, from October 2011 until January 2012. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The rates of chicken manure were  0, 2.5, 5 and 10 ton ha-1, while the plant spacings were 50 cm x 50 cm and 75 cm x 75 cm. The interaction effect between manure rates and plant spacing was significant on nett assimilation rate at 4-8 weeks after planting, but it was not significant on biomass production. The highest dry weight of biomass (1,129.1 kg ha-1) was obtained from the addition of 10 ton chicken manure ha-1 with the potential contribution as much as 55.47 kg N, 4.54 kg P, 88.54 kg K per hectare. The highest dry weight of biomass produced with planting distance 50 cm x 50 cm (897 kg ha-1). Referring to the results, it can be recommended that the cultivation of T. diversifolia at the first planting needs 10 ton chicken manure ha-1 and the planting distance of 50 cm x 50 cm.Keywords: biomass production, Mexican sun flower, nett assimilation ratio, nutrient contributio, weed

Abstract

Light use efficiency (LUE) determines biomass production based on interception energy during photosynthesis. The product of photosynthesis is allocated to the plants organs based on the partitioning of carbohydrates. The LUE and carbohydrate partitioning are two important parameters in crop modelling. The research was conducted at Cikabayan experimental station of IPB, Bogor from July to November 2015. The experiment was designed according to a randomize block design with five replications. The fertilizer treatments rate were 0%, 50%, 100%, 150%, and 200% of reference N fertilization of 120 kg ha-1.  The  value  of  light use efficiency and the partition coefficient of sorghum were not affected by N fertilization. The value of light use efficiency is 1.41 g MJ-1. The carbohydrates partitioning was developed based on plant growth stage. The partition from the planting to the emergence stage (0 ≤ s ≤ 0.25) was 0.81 x s/0.25 root, 0 stem, 0.19 x s/0.25 leaves, and 0 panicle. The partition from the emergence to the maximum vegetative stage (0.25 < s ≤ 0.5) was 0.81-(0.59 x s/0.5) root, 0.14 x s/0.5  stem, 0.19 + (0.45 x s/0.5) leaves, and 0 panicle. The partition from the maximum vegetative stage to the flowering stage (0.5 < s ≤ 0.75) was 0.22 - (0.09 x s/0.75) root, 0.14 + (0.39 x s/0.75) stem, 0.64 - (0.46 x s/0.75) leaves, and 0.16 x s/0.75 panicle. The partition from flowering to the harvest stage (0.75 < s ≤ 1) was 0.13 - (0.13 x s) root, 0.53 - (0.52 x s) stem, 0.18-(0.18 x s) leaves, and 0.16 + (0.84 x s) panicle. Keywords: crop modelling, light use efficiency, N fertilizer, partitioning carbohydrates
