Abstract

The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) raid on As-Shifa hospital is a serious problem as it is related to international humanitarian rules regarding civilian objects. Emad Hajjaj on his Instagram account criticized this behavior with caricatures. This study aims to (1) uncover the representation of social criticism in Emad Hajjaj's caricature on Instagram and (2) uncover the factors behind caricature making. The primary data source comes from two caricatures on Emad Hajjaj's Instagram account, while the secondary data comes from books, journals, news, and articles relevant to this study. This type of research is qualitative research using the semiotic approach of Roman Jakobson's perspective and Gillin and Gillin's theory of social criticism. The data collection techniques used are screenshots, reading, and notes. Data analysis techniques use the Miles and Huberman technique which consists of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The result of this study is that there are two types of representations of social criticism in Emad Hajjaj's caricature related to the attack on IDF soldiers, namely socio-political criticism and social moral criticism. The background to the criticism was a response to the actions of IDF soldiers.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Arabic language teaching program at Ma'had Hidayatullah Batu based on the CIPP evaluation model. The CIPP evaluation model focuses on four aspects; 1) context evaluation 2) input evaluation 3) process evaluation 4) outcome evaluation. The type of approach used is qualitative descriptive evaluative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the data analysis technique according to Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results of this study indicate that, based on; 1) context evaluation, running according to the vision and mission of the school in creating a safe, comfortable, and ideal atmosphere and environment for Arabic language teaching. 2) input evaluation, Arabic language teaching at Ma'had Hidayatullah Batu is supported by adequate input, both from human resources and supporting facilities. 3) process evaluation, there are challenges in practice, such as students who tend to be passive and lack confidence. 4) Evaluation of Arabic language teaching outcomes at Ma'had Hidayatullah Batu shows that students have achieved the highest level of teaching. By the end of the teaching period, some students' language skills, particularly speaking and writing, still needed improvement. This is due to the teaching method, which requires a continuous process and time to develop creativity, communication skills, and thinking abilities.

Abstract

This study examines the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, which impacts political, economic, and social aspects. The background of this research is Yemen's internal conflict involving Saudi Arabia's military intervention since 2015. This study analyzes the public's perception of the intervention and its impact. Using the theories of social constructivism by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, this study identifies how public perceptions are shaped through narratives constructed by the media, governments, and other social actors. The method used is qualitative with an analytical descriptive approach through the explanation of conflict variables, community conditions, and the impact of the intervention. The discussion results show that public perceptions are divided into positive perceptions that see intervention as an effort for stability in the region and negative perceptions that consider intervention to exacerbate humanitarian and economic crises. Despite the political benefits, the negative impact on civil society is enormous. Therefore, a diplomatic approach that prioritizes human rights and the welfare of civil society, as well as inclusive reconciliation efforts to achieve sustainable peace, is needed.

Abstract

The Houthis' attempt at seizing control of Yemeni territory initially seemed like a protest against the presence of power. However, the Houthi rebellion grew louder and bolder until it crossed the boundaries of social norms. The Houthi group's efforts experienced increasing strong power dynamics, leading to a rising severe conflict. In line with the background, the researchers formulated three problem formulations: (1) How did the Houthis begin their efforts to seize control of Yemen's territory? (2) What are the factors that make the strategy of the Houthis a distortion of social norms in the conflict? (3) How do the dynamics of the Houthi power over Yemen play out in the distortion of social norms? This research is based on the argument that the Houthis are trying to distort social norms in Yemen. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The technique used in data collection is reading and taking notes. The data analysis techniques in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This research indicates that the conflict between the Houthis and Yemen is an organized conflict of interest.

Abstract

Tashrif Ishtilahi learning at Muhammadiyah Senior High School has become monotonous for students. The teacher implemented a "fun learning" strategy supported by a snakes and ladders game as instructional media to address this issue. This study aims to: describe the use of the snakes and ladders media in Tashrif Ishtilahi instruction, and examine classroom learning activities involving this media. This research adopts a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations and interviews were conducted to explore the classroom activities utilizing the Snakes and Ladders media, while interviews specifically captured teachers' responses to these learning activities. Documentation was used to gather visual data during the implementation process. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's model, which involves three stages: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, source triangulation was applied. The study yielded two main findings: the snakes and ladders media was designed using Canva, printed on A3 paper, and equipped with four tokens and one die to accommodate group play; and the gameplay resembled that of a conventional snakes and ladders game, with students required to correctly pronounce Tashrif Ishtilahi forms before moving to the next square.

Abstract

This study examines selective Qur'anic lexical clustering as a pedagogical framework for adult Arabic reading instruction at Majelis Ta'lim Al-Ma'uun, Sidoarjo. The analysis focuses on three clusters: high-frequency vocabulary, familiarity and novelty, and prefixes and suffixes. Using a qualitative case-study design, data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews with the teacher, adult learners, and the program manager, and learning documents. The data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, while credibility was strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings show that high-frequency clustering helps adult learners identify recurrent function words such as prepositions, pronouns, and conjunctions; familiarity-novelty clustering allows the teacher to connect previously learned vocabulary with newly introduced items; and prefix-suffix clustering enables learners to recognize verbal forms, subject markers, and word endings in Qur'anic verses. The novelty of this article lies in proposing selective Qur'anic lexical clustering as a practical pedagogical framework for organizing vocabulary in adult reading instruction, combining vocabulary frequency, meaningful prior knowledge, and Arabic morphological awareness.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in language education, where critical thinking is often treated as a situational cognitive skill rather than a sustained intellectual disposition. It examines how affective internalization shapes the development of critical thinking in Arabic language learning. A qualitative case study was conducted over eight weeks, involving sixteen classroom observations, semi-structured interviews (2 teachers and 12 students), and document analysis, with data analyzed thematically based on Krathwohl’s affective domain. The findings show that critical thinking develops through five stages: receiving, responding, valuing, organization, and characterization, mediated by affective engagement in classroom practices. Most students remained at transitional stages (receiving–responding: 55%), while fewer reached dispositional levels (organization–characterization: 25%). Dialogic interaction, text interpretation, and reflective reasoning facilitate the shift from externally guided responses to internally regulated thinking. This study demonstrates that critical thinking develops through affective internalization rather than cognitive training alone and proposes an integrative model linking affective and cognitive processes. However, this study is limited to a single institutional context, which may affect the generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

This article examines how Arabic grammar (nah}wu) is theologically reinterpreted as a medium for ethical and spiritual formation within a Salaf pesantren in Indonesia. In response to contemporary moral challenges confronting pesantren communities, the study explores a pedagogical approach known as Spiritual Nah}wu, developed at Pondok Pesantren Babussalam Pagelaran. Employing a phenomenological–hermeneutical methodology, the research analyzes how kiai and ustādh reconfigure nahwu from a technical–linguistic discipline into a spiritually grounded epistemology oriented toward tazkīyat al-nafs. Drawing on in-depth interviews, participant observation, and textual analysis, the findings demonstrate that grammatical categories are interpreted as symbolic representations of moral and spiritual states, enabling nah}wu to function as a mode of theological meaning-making and ethical internalization. This pedagogical model integrates cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions of learning, thereby challenging the modern separation between knowledge and morality. The article contributes to scholarship on Islamic education by illustrating how auxiliary Islamic sciences can serve as sites of epistemic agency and decolonial knowledge production rooted in pesantren traditions.
