Abstract

The development of science and technology can make students interested in participating in the learning process so that it can increase student competence. The reality in the field is that there are still many teachers who have not used schoolology-based online learning because of a lack of information. Teachers are less creative in developing teaching materials that suit the characteristics of students. This research began when researchers discovered gaps in conditions in the field that teachers were still not using technology enough, so that learning was less varied. The aim of the research is to produce online learning content using Schoology in elementary school science learning that is practical, valid and effective to increase student competence. The research uses the ADDIE model which consists of analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This research produces online elementary science learning content using schoology. The results of the research show that based on the expert assessment of the material, language and media the learning content developed was declared valid, practical based on the responses of students and teachers, and effective in increasing students' competence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) in improving the quality of science learning through a systematic literature review. The methodology followed the PRISMA framework, analyzing 17 reputable scientific articles retrieved from the Scopus database between 2018 and 2024. The results of the study indicate that IBL has a significant positive impact on science learning, particularly in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding, scientific process skills, and critical thinking abilities. Additionally, IBL contributes to increasing students’ motivation and positive attitudes toward science through active engagement in the learning process. Further discussion reveals that the success of IBL implementation is influenced by various factors, such as teacher readiness, availability of facilities, and learning time management. Nevertheless, IBL remains an effective approach in supporting student-centered science learning. Overall, this study concludes that IBL has great potential in improving the quality of science learning, but requires appropriate support and implementation strategies to be applied optimally

Abstract

Education is a key pillar of a nation's progress. Results from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 indicate that Indonesian students' performance in reading, mathematics, and science remains below international averages, reflecting persistent challenges in higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills. This study aimed to develop STEM- based teaching materials integrated with 21st-century learning to enhance students' critical thinking skills. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). Participants included material and media experts, chemistry teachers, and 36 Grade XI students. Critical thinking skills were measured using pretest–posttest assessments aligned with Ennis' indicators, expert validation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that expert feasibility ratings reached 98.05% (highly feasible), user responses were 88.79%, and readability was 87.83%. The effectiveness of the materials was supported by a high N-Gain score of 0.73, indicating substantial improvement in students' critical thinking skills. Overall, the developed teaching materials were feasible, well-received, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. These findings imply that systematically integrating STEM principles with 21st-century learning skills can serve as an effective instructional strategy to strengthen higher-order thinking in chemistry education. Future research is recommended to conduct large-scale experimental studies across diverse school contexts and to explore digital integration to enhance scalability and long-term impact.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of a video-assisted PBL-STEAM model using the Kampung Code pollution context on junior high school students’ problem-solving ability and environmental care attitude. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent pretest–posttest control group design was employed. The sample consisted of two classes selected through cluster random sampling: one experimental class and one control class. Data were collected using a problem-solving test and an environmental care attitude questionnaire. Data analysis included normalized gain (N-Gain) and inferential statistics using an independent samples t-test and Mann–Whitney test. The results indicate that the experimental group achieved higher improvement in problem-solving ability (N-Gain = 0.35, medium) compared to the control group (N-Gain = 0.15, low), with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001). In contrast, environmental care attitude showed low improvement in both groups (experimental = 0.14; control = 0.11), with no significant difference (p = 0.569). These findings suggest that video-assisted PBL-STEAM using a local environmental context is associated with improved cognitive outcomes, while affective outcomes may require longer and more sustained interventions.

Abstract

This study explores students’ self-health literacy within Islamic school science education by examining differences across gender, grade level, and school context. Using a cross-sectional survey approach, data were collected from junior high school students through an instrument grounded in the health literacy framework, encompassing access, understanding, processing, and application of health information. Students generally demonstrate a positive level of self-health literacy, with stronger performance in applying health knowledge compared to evaluating information critically. Relationships among all dimensions were found to be interconnected, highlighting the integrative nature of health literacy development. No significant differences emerged across gender and school context, while variations in information access were observed across grade levels. The study underscores the importance of integrating digital literacy and value-based education in strengthening students’ health literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the reconstruction of the philosophy of science in the Project-Based Eco-Citizenship learning model in elementary education through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. This study examines 30 selected articles from the Google Scholar, Scopus, and SINTA databases published in 2015–2025. The analysis was conducted using the PRISMA stages and thematic analysis examined from the perspective of the philosophy of science, namely ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions. The results of the study indicate that ontologically, students are positioned as active subjects who learn through direct interaction with the environment as the real reality of learning. Epistemologically, knowledge is built through experience, collaboration, and reflection in contextual project activities so that learning becomes more meaningful and applicable. Meanwhile, axiologically, this model plays a role in instilling the values of environmental concern, social responsibility, and sustainability that shape the character of eco-citizens in students. The integration of these three dimensions shows that Project-Based Eco-Citizenship is not only oriented towards cognitive achievement, but also character development and ecological awareness. Thus, this model is relevant to the demands of the Independent Curriculum and the strengthening of 21st-century skills in forming a generation that is critical, collaborative, creative, and cares about the environment.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate an eco-disaster literacy–based science learning model using a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach to improve environmental awareness and problem-solving skills of elementary school students. The research was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Laousu, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, involving 40 fifth-grade students. The DBR process included four stages: analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through questionnaires, problem-solving tests, observations, and interviews. The findings showed that the learning model was highly valid, with Aiken’s V values ranging from 0.85 to 0.89, and highly practical, indicated by 92% implementation and 90% positive student responses. The model was also effective in improving student learning outcomes. Environmental awareness increased in the moderate category (N-Gain = 0.57), while problem-solving ability improved in the high category (N-Gain = 0.70). The t-test results showed significant differences between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05), indicating the effectiveness of the developed learning model.
