Abstract

The implementation of TPACK-P faces several challenges, including limitations in utilizing technology that aligns with the science curriculum based on scientific literacy, a lack of continuous professional training for teachers, and the need to adapt teaching methods to accommodate students’ multicultural backgrounds. Therefore, efforts are needed to strengthen TPACK-P through intensive training and research-based practice to enhance Science Literacy 2025 and improve the effectiveness of science learning. The method in this study used training or workshops. The implementation mechanism of this community service program consists of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The training activities were conducted through direct workshops with participants from Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and science teachers in Yogyakarta. Data on teachers’ experiences in using TPACK-P were collected using instruments distributed via Google Forms and analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results showed that 96% of teachers possessed knowledge related to TPACK-P, while only 88% had classroom experience applying it. This indicates that the training provided teachers with valuable hands-on experience in using TPACK-P to design science learning

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to apply the Conceptual Change Model (CCM) containing cognitive conflicts and to find out the difference in their effects on students' critical thinking skills. This type of research is a quasi-experimental study with an Only-Posttest design. The sample in this study was 91 students at senior high school in Lombok, Indonesia. The sampling technique used in this research is simple random sampling. Students are divided into three sample groups: experiment class, control 1 class, and control 2. Critical thinking skills are measured based on five aspects: basic clarification, basic decisions, inference, evaluation, and further explanation. The test used to measure critical thinking skills is a description test. The material chosen is motion along a straight line. This research was tested by ANOVA 1 way. The test results show differences in the critical thinking skills of the three sample groups in the motion and straight line material. This shows that CCM containing cognitive conflict can be used as alternative learning to improve critical thinking skills. Subsequent research is carried out for different materials and different areas, but it should be noted that this learning is suitable for materials that experience many misconceptions.

Abstract

Mathematical representation is one of the higher-order thinking skills needed by students in analyzing physics cases as a form of proving the truth of understanding. Referring to the inconsistencies in the results of research on mathematical representation involving gender and the phenomenon of the high ability of female students in heterogeneous classes, it is suspected that there is a relationship between class type and mathematical representation. This study aims to analyze the increase in students' mathematical representation abilities in terms of gender differences in homogeneous classes. The research subjects consisted of class X high school students in Bantul, Indonesia, consisting of 26 boys and 27 girls. The research instrument was 5 physics questions that referred to indicators of mathematical representation. Data analysis to find out how the category of mathematical representation increases using the N-Gain index. The results of this study were (1) the improvement in the ability of the male students' mathematical representation in the medium category was superior to that of the female students, (2) the improvement in the ability to make mathematical expressions and use visual representations was better for the male students, and (3) the ability of the female students in terms of making image representations better than male students. This research implies that further research is needed to be related to the causes of students' misinterpretation in dealing with physics test.

Abstract

assumptions underlying the theoretical structure of the Natural and Social Sciences (SPS), with a particular focus on the ontological foundations of both disciplines. This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach referring to the PRISMA 2020 protocol. A systematic literature search was conducted through the Scopus, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis Online, PhilPapers, and MDPI databases, with a publication period of 2015–2026. Inclusion criteria included peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and book chapters that discuss metaphysical, ontological, epistemological, or methodological aspects of the natural and/or social sciences. A total of 29 key literatures were analyzed thematically using a narrative synthesis approach. The analysis revealed four main themes: (1) ontological assumptions in the natural sciences are characterized by metaphysical naturalism that emphasizes an orderly and observable external reality; (2) ontological assumptions in the social sciences exhibit greater diversity, encompassing critical realism that recognizes social structures as emergent, social constructivism, and an ontology of agency and structure; (3) ontological tensions between the natural and social sciences frequently arise in interdisciplinary research, particularly in the area of sustainability, but critical realism and methodological pluralism are offered as potential resolutions; (4) an integrated naturalistic metaphysics (scientific metaphysics) is proposed as a framework that bridges scientific and social ontologies through a model-based approach and inference to the best explanation. The findings of this study provide a theoretical contribution to the development of social sciences as an interdisciplinary field, by offering a conceptual map of metaphysical assumptions that can facilitate more reflective and productive cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Abstract

This study was motivated by low science literacy and declining inquiry motivation among students due to the limited availability of teaching materials that accommodate diverse learning readiness. The purpose of this research was to develop differentiated science textbooks on biotechnology and to examine their validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving science literacy and curiosity among ninth-grade junior high school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The textbooks were designed based on learning readiness levels (basic, intermediate, and advanced) and integrated with Discovery Learning syntax. Data were collected through expert validation, teacher and student questionnaires, and effectiveness testing using a quasi-experimental design. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric inferential tests were applied for data analysis. The findings indicated that the developed textbooks demonstrated very high validity and practicality. Furthermore, students in the experimental group achieved significantly higher posttest scores in science literacy and curiosity compared to the control group. These results suggest that differentiated science textbooks are effective in supporting student-centered learning and enhancing both cognitive and affective outcomes.
