Abstract

STEM can contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the development of 21st-century skills. It triggered a massive innovation in science education research on the STEM theme including Indonesia. This content analysis study aimed to systematically analyze STEM research trends in Indonesia based on articles published in national and international journals. Based on the inclusion criteria established, 50 articles were collected to be analyzed using the Paper Classification Form (PCF) instrument. The findings of the analysis indicated a dominance on the topic of learning strategies (54%) with the experimental method (46%). The most common integration pattern found is STEM-PjBL (34.48%). Learning outcomes (23.91%) and scientific literacy (21.74%) were the dependent variables that were dominantly associated with STEM learning. Thus, there needs to be a variety of STEM research on other potential issues to help the government accelerate the achievement of SDGs.

Abstract

Environmental awareness is an issue that continues to evolve with the development of science and technology. Various problems that arise include attitudes to protect the environment, to choose a healthy lifestyle, to utilize natural resources, to deal with natural disasters, and to concern about the rising global temperatures. The government carries out the Adiwiyata school program with the aim to instill values of environmental awareness for students. This leads to the importance of building environmental literacy to direct in building the environmentally-aware attitude that supports the preparation to become Adiwiyata schools. Learning based on sustainability (pedagogy for sustainability) has the potential to be integrated in science learning, considering that natural science subjects examine natural phenomena and the symptoms physically, chemically, and biologically as well as the relation to technology, environment, and society. Attitudes and actions towards environmental literacy can be inculcated through the development of learning processes containing pedagogy for sustainability that emphasizes activities to seek, explore, discuss, and investigate information and also to plan actions that are beneficial to the environment and do not carry any negative impacts on future generations.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the publication trends of substitute, combine, adapt, modify, put to another use, eliminate, and rearrange (SCAMPER) research over the past 20 years. The method used to explore the research trends was literature review through bibliometric analysis. The results of the bibliometric analysis identify core research or authors, as well as their relationship, by covering all the publications related to a given topic or field. The publication related to SCAMPER from 2000 to 2020 was retrieved from Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Scopus. The research trends of SCAMPER were visualized using the VOSviewer program. The results showed that the research trend of SCAMPER has continually increased over the past 20 years, especially in the last five years. A network analysis based on the co-occurrence of keywords showed the main keyword study was creative thinking. Based on the analysis of the field of study, SCAMPER has been widely studied in science. Only a few have been studied in engineering, architecture, sports, social studies, management, mathematics, psychology, and health. The benefit of this research can illustrate the extent to which SCAMPER strategies have been applied to develop 21st-century skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the integration of metacognition in online science education for college students and tested the feasibility of the learning model on students’ high order thinking skills (HOTS). The analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (ADDIE) model was employed in this study. A needs analysis was conducted through interviews and questionnaire surveys to 21 science lecturers from primary school teacher education study programs at seven state universities and 14 private universities in Indonesia. In the development phase, the effectiveness of the model was examined through an experimental study involving three groups of students: experimental group (41 students), control group 1 (39 students), and control group 2 (39 students). The experimental study was performed using the randomized pretest-posttest comparison group design. The research hypothesis was investigated using a general linear model and multivariate analysis of variance. Through awareness-building, essential questioning, planning, monitoring, evaluating, and reflecting, this study successfully integrated metacognition into online science education. The model's learning syntax incorporated both synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. Virtual and contextual projects are critical components of this approach because they demonstrate how metacognition is regulated. Expert judgment indicated that the model under development was highly feasible. The experimental study established that the learning model had a considerable effect on students’ HOTS, which rose by 75% (a large effect) due to the model’s implementation.
