Abstract

Babies have very sensitive skin, different from adult skin, which makes babies more susceptible to infection, irritation, and allergies, and it is not uncommon for babies to experience dermatitis, one of which is commonly called diaper dermatitis. Baby diapers are tools used and created to absorb urine and hold feces, designed to keep the skin dry so that it is protected from direct contact with the baby's clothes, bed and environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of tools to maintain cleanliness and comfort of babies (baby diapers). This type of research is quantitative analytical. The population and sample of respondents were all babies aged 0-12 months who used baby diapers, totaling 64 people. The behavioral measurement method uses the scoring method and for data processing uses univariate and bivariate analysis. Data were analyzed descriptively in the form of tables and narratives. The results of the study showed that the level of maternal knowledge was good, the mother's attitude and actions were good. There was no significant relationship between maternal knowledge of skin disorders in infants (p value = 0.648), there was no significant relationship between maternal attitudes towards skin disorders in infants (p value = 0.256), but there was a significant relationship between maternal actions towards skin disorders in infants (p value = 0.045).

Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that can cause sleep disturbances due to shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing, especially at night. Sleeping position affects lung function and patient comfort. The Semi-Fowler position is believed to increase lung ventilation and reduce sleep disturbances. Objective: To determine the effect of the Semi-Fowler sleeping position on sleep quality in asthma patients in the treatment room. Method: This study used a quantitative design with a pre-experimental approach using a pretest-posttest design without a control group. The sample consisted of 30 asthma patients treated in the treatment room of RSUD X who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The intervention was carried out by providing the Semi-Fowler position for 3 consecutive nights. Measurement of sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Results: The results of the analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference between sleep quality values before and after the intervention (p = 0.001), which indicated an increase in sleep quality after the Semi-Fowler position intervention. Conclusion: Providing the Semi-Fowler sleeping position can consistently improve the sleep quality of asthma patients. This position is recommended as part of non-pharmacological nursing interventions in the treatment room.

Abstract

Dental caries is a common dental health problem in children, especially in primary school-aged children. One of the risk factors is poor tooth brushing habits, particularly neglecting to brush teeth at night before sleeping. This study aims to describe the night tooth brushing habits and their relationship with the dental caries status in Grade I, II, and III students at a public elementary school in Makassar. This descriptive study involved 90 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and clinical dental examination to assess caries status based on the DMF-T index. The results showed that 62% of the children did not regularly brush their teeth at night. Among those who did not brush at night, 78% had moderate to high dental caries. In contrast, only 22% of children who regularly brushed at night experienced similar conditions. The findings suggest a strong association between night brushing habits and caries status. Strengthening oral hygiene education for children and parents is recommended to reduce the prevalence of caries.

Abstract

Water quality is a crucial factor in maintaining public health, particularly in rural areas that still rely on traditional water sources such as dug wells. In Bulu Bulu Village, Maros Regency, most residents use dug well water for their daily needs, without knowing whether the water quality meets health standards. This study aims to analyze the physical, chemical, and microbiological quality of dug well water and identify the relationship between water quality and the incidence of skin diseases in the community. This study used an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 15 randomly selected dug wells and 60 respondents who were active users of water from these wells. Laboratory tests were conducted to assess physical (color, odor, turbidity), chemical (pH, iron, nitrate), and microbiological (Escherichia coli) parameters. Data on skin diseases were collected through interviews, observations, and medical records from local health facilities. Data analysis used the Chi-square test to determine the relationship between water quality and the incidence of skin diseases. The results showed that most water samples contained E. coli contamination exceeding the threshold set by Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017. 63% of respondents experienced skin disorders, primarily contact dermatitis and fungal infections. A significant association was found between the microbiological quality of dug well water and the risk of skin disease (p < 0.05). This study emphasizes the need for regular water quality monitoring and public education regarding environmental sanitation and safe water source management.

Abstract

Background: Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction that can be fatal if not treated promptly. Nurses, as frontline healthcare workers, play a crucial role in early detection and rapid intervention in this condition. Objective: To determine the role of nurses in managing anaphylactic shock in the emergency department (ED) of a Type B Regional General Hospital. Methods: This was an observational study using a quantitative descriptive approach. Data were obtained through direct observation of nurses' actions using a standard operating procedure (SOP)-based checklist and semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of 30 nurses working in the ED. Results: 76.7% of nurses demonstrated good skills in the initial assessment, but only 60% administered epinephrine injections according to procedure. 83.3% of nurses were able to monitor vital signs regularly and document them appropriately. Conclusion: The role of nurses in managing anaphylactic shock in the ED of a Type B Regional General Hospital is considered adequate, but skills in administering epinephrine and follow-up care are still needed.
