Abstract

This study aims to develop a local potential-based learning model to enhance elementary school students' critical thinking skills. Local potential-based learning is expected to utilize the wisdom and resources available in the surrounding environment as relevant and engaging learning materials for students. This learning model is designed to strengthen student involvement in the learning process, foster curiosity, and develop essential analytical and problem-solving skills for critical thinking. The approach involves integrating local materials, such as history, culture, and local social issues, into teaching activities. This study uses a simplified development method divided into three stages: preliminary study, development stage, and model effectiveness testing stage. The development stage begins with needs analysis, design, trial, and model evaluation. The research findings indicate that during the model evaluation stage, the effectiveness test results in SDN Bunikasih 1 as Experiment Class 1 reached an average % N-gain value of 55.05%, and model evaluation in Experiment Class 2 SDN Sukawangi 2 showed an average % N-gain value of 55.09%. Thus, the application of the local potential-based learning model is quite effective in helping improve students' critical thinking skills. The conclusion of this study is expected to contribute significantly to the development of a more contextual curriculum, enhance students' critical thinking skills, and encourage them to better understand and appreciate the local potential in their surroundings.

Abstract

This study examines the lack of comprehension among students regarding subject matter that is highly relevant to their daily lives, emphasising the importance of their understanding. The encounter with diverse situations outside the classroom is a common experience for students; however, the insufficient availability of learning tools, unappealing media, and inadequate utilisation of school facilities contribute to their limited understanding. To address this issue, learning films are proposed as an alternative media to enhance student engagement, serve as effective learning materials, and make use of school resources such as projectors. The aim of this research is to create and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional video media with a diversity theme in improving learning outcomes among class III elementary school students. The design and development (D&D) method, specifically the PPE development model, was utilised in this study, involving three stages: planning, development, and evaluation. The input of media experts, material experts, and learning experts was sought to assess the feasibility of the learning videos. The results indicated that the learning films received a feasibility rating of 95% in the "extremely feasible" category, affirming their suitability for educational settings. Experts predicted that the implementation of learning films could significantly enhance student learning outcomes. The methodology encompassed data collection through the D&D method, including planning and conducting evaluations by experts, as well as the subsequent analysis and interpretation of the results. Ultimately, this study aims to improve the actual learning outcomes of class III elementary school students through the utilisation of instructional video media with a diversity theme.

Abstract

The development of environmental values and pro-environmental behavior must begin from an early age, particularly within primary education. Schools, therefore, have a strategic role in shaping sustainable habits through educational interventions. This study aims to assess the need for educational programs that integrate green activities and to evaluate teachers’ and principals’ understanding of green consumer behavior. Using an Ex Post Facto research design and purposive sampling, data were collected from 32 fifth-grade teachers and 32 public primary school principals in Bandung, Indonesia. A validated Guttman-scale questionnaire was used, and data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The results showed that all respondents recognized the importance of implementing green activities and instilling green consumer behavior. The gap between conceptual understanding and classroom practice—particularly among teachers—indicates a need for more targeted capacity-building. This study highlights the importance of developing integrated, project-based, and contextually relevant learning models to promote environmental literacy and responsible consumption, contributing to the broader goals of environmental education and character development.

Abstract

AbstractSchool learning is seen as emphasizing the achievement of cognitive aspects, while affective aspects tend to be neglected. Thus causing imbalances in the formation of students' overall competence. To answer these challenges, a Value Inquiry learning model was developed that can balance cognitive and affective aspects integrated in thematic learning. This research used a modified Research & Development approach through three stages of implementation: preliminary study, model development, and model validation test. This research involved five elementary schools in Garut Regency. The instruments used included expert validation questionnaires, observation sheets, attitude questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The limited and broad trials showed a significant increase in both concept understanding and students' social attitudes, it was shown by the results of the N-Gain analysis with an increase of 29.48% in the limited experimental class test with a low interpretation, 69.06% in the broad test phase I, 69.98% in phase II, and 70.10% in the validation test with a moderate interpretation. The effectiveness test results with a value of 0.701 which indicates that the Value Inquiry learning model is quite effective in improving students' concept understanding and social attitudes. Thus, this model is very relevant and practical to be applied. Keywords: learning models, value inquiry, social attitudes, characteristics of elementary school students.AbstrakPembelajaan di sekolah dipandang lebih menekankan pada pencapaian aspek kognitif, sementara aspek afektif cenderung terabaikan. Abstract

The education curriculum in Indonesia has undergone eleven revisions since independence, which is often not matched by adequate preparedness of educators and education infrastructure. This research aims to explore the meaning of the curriculum in depth from historical and contemporary perspectives, as well as compare curricula from various periods to provide a comprehensive understanding. The research method used is a qualitative approach through literature study and content analysis of scientific journals, textbooks, official government documents, and other relevant articles and publications. The results show that the curriculum in Indonesia continues to develop and adapt to social and technological changes. The 1947 curriculum emphasized national values and life skills, the 1952 curriculum focused on the relevance of the material to daily life, while the subsequent curriculum continued to adapt to the times. Curriculum implementation faces various challenges, including disparities in the quality of education between urban and rural areas and teachers' lack of preparation for curriculum changes. This research highlights the importance of a curriculum that is relevant to the needs of society and technological developments so that graduates can compete at the global level. The curriculum should be able to shape students' characters and prepare them for future challenges, with an emphasis on character and competency development.

Abstract

Learning models appearing in the classroom are psychologically far from students’ daily lives, despite the fact that there are numerous traditions available to students that might form the basis for the development of a learning model. This study was intended to produce a model of Project Based Learning (PBL) based on Batobo. The Batobo tradition performed by Kuantan Singingi people in Riau is a tradition of working together on an agricultural land. This study used research and development (R&D) proposed by Borg and Gall stages to develop the tradition based learning model. The data collection technique started from conducting a literature review, interviewing groups or community leaders and designing models. The results of the research revealed that Batobo based Project Based Learning model was conducted in five stages in learning included the initiation (manyamulo), followed by project planning (mancangkul/manugal), project implementation (mananam), discussion (manuai) and the last stage was evaluation (closing). The Batobo based Project Based Learning model described the learning activities carried out by referring to the Batobo tradition. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the PBL model based on the batobo tradition which consists of five stages of learning developed is suitable for use in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the interaction between learning motivation and problem-solving skills in the context of Social Sciences (IPS) learning at SMPN 8 Cimahi. Adopting a quantitative approach through a 2^3 factorial experimental design, this research involved 60 students divided into an experimental group (using Problem-Based Learning - PBL) and a control group (using Inquiry Learning). Data was collected through observation, documentation, pretest-posttest, and questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (One-Way ANOVA) with SPSS 26.0. The results showed a significant increase in problem-solving skills in the PBL group compared to the Inquiry group, especially due to the interaction with student learning motivation. Descriptively, the average normalized gain score of the PBL group (0.8424) was superior to that of the Inquiry group (0.7147). The One-Way ANOVA test confirmed significant differences in problem-solving skill improvement for both learning groups (PBL: F=44.220, sig<0.000; Inquiry: F=4.866, sig<0.016), with effects varying based on motivation levels. Furthermore, the interaction effect test (F=4.410, sig=0.022) confirmed a combined influence between learning methods and student motivation. These findings conclude that PBL is more effective in enhancing student engagement and problem-solving skills, while also emphasizing the importance of considering teaching methods and student motivation levels when designing learning activities.
