Abstract

The paradigm shift from colonialism to postcolonialism has a remarkable contribution on the construction of indigenous counseling foundations that presented an epistemology derived from local wisdom. Indigenous counseling recognizes universal standards of truth depend on cultural and subcultural values and knowledge, which do not have to be subject to the recognition and validation of Western rationalities. Indigenous counseling builds knowledge of the interconnection and interdependence dimensions, the relationship between humans transcends the physical world. Indigenous Counseling of Spirituality in Pesantren education culture is a paradigm that proposes views on human nature, theoretical foundations, and how counseling is aligned with the world view of the pesantren community spirituality. The philosophy of postcolonialism is functioned as the cornerstone of indigenous counseling in general, while Sunni philosophy is a paradigm of thinking to construct indigenous counseling of spirituality in pesantren education culture. Keywords: Counseling paradigm, cultural values, indigenous counseling, pesantren education, spiritual counseling.

Abstract

Introduction: Primigravida pregnant women are vulnerable to anxiety, worry, and fear during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period. If not managed properly, anxiety during pregnancy can negatively affect maternal and fetal outcomes, including pre-eclampsia, premature birth, miscarriage, impaired uteroplacental blood flow, low birth weight, congenital abnormalities, as well as postpartum stress and depression. Complementary therapies such as the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT), have been suggested as non-pharmacological strategies to alleviate anxiety. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of audiovisual-based SEFT therapy and antenatal class educational videos in reducing anxiety levels among primigravida pregnant women. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design conducted in two groups with 27 respondents in each group. Respondents were asked to fill out the Pregnancy Related Anxiety Questionnaire-Revised 2 (PRAQ-R2) before the first day of treatment and after the third day of treatment to determine anxiety scores, then compared and statistically analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney test. Results: Anxiety scores significantly decreased in the audiovisual-based SEFT group (p 0.001) and were significantly greater than in the antenatal educational video group (p = 0.046).Conclusion: Audiovisual media-based SEFT therapy is more effective in reducing anxiety in primigravida pregnant women than educational videos for pregnant women. Keywords: Anxiety, primigravida, spiritual emotional freedom technique

Abstract

This study is grounded in the context of 21st-century education, which is marked by increasing diversity. Such conditions require students at both school and university levels to develop tolerance as a key multicultural competence. Previous research indicates that students’ tolerance levels remain moderate, with some showing low awareness in respecting differences, raising concerns about potential social conflict. To address this challenge, the present study introduces a psychological guidance approach as an intervention model to strengthen the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions of tolerance. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control-group design was applied to 66 students from a teacher education faculty in Bandung. ANCOVA results revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (F = 37.944; p < .001), accompanied by a large effect size (r ≈ 0.814). These outcomes demonstrate that the psychological guidance model effectively enhances several indicators of tolerance, including persistence in managing differences, appreciation of diversity, and equal, non-discriminatory treatment of others. The study concludes that psychological guidance is a promising strategy for fostering tolerance in higher education settings. Future research should broaden the sample to include multiple institutions and employ qualitative methods to further explore the dynamics of tolerance development. Abstract

The ups and downs of learner participation in learning activities at Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat (PKBM) is not only influenced by technical factors, but is also closely related to how they interpret their learning experiences. Through the lens of Self-Determination Theory, this study explores the urgency of fulfilling basic psychological needs—namely autonomy, competence, and relatedness—to maintain and increase learning motivation. This research uses a phenomenological approach to explore the subjective experiences of three school-age learners in the Equivalency Education program, Paket C. Through in-depth interviews, it was found that environmental support for the fulfillment of learners' basic psychological needs varies greatly. The quality of social interaction in the PKBM environment proved to be key; warm, open, and consistent interpersonal support was able to encourage more authentic learning engagement. These findings underscore that PKBM is not merely an academic space, but a crucial social ecosystem in facilitating basic psychological needs, which ultimately determine learners' intrinsic motivation and perseverance in learning.

Abstract

Character education in schools plays a strategic role in shaping resilient and integrity-driven personalities to prevent the growing phenomenon of demoralization among students in the era of disruption and global value transformation. This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the importance of integrating character education into the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, as well as to identify an effective conceptual model for strengthening students’ moral development. Employing a qualitative literature review method, this research examines a wide range of recent scholarly sources, including books, journals, and research reports relevant to the themes of character education and the Merdeka Curriculum. The synthesis of literature indicates that systematically integrated character education within the Merdeka Curriculum makes a significant contribution to preventing demoralization through the reinforcement of Pancasila Student Profile values. This study proposes the Integrative Model of Character Education within the Merdeka Curriculum (IM-CE2M), which consists of four key components: (1) project- and experience- based contextual learning that cultivates the values of faith, collaboration, and independence; (2) consistent habituation and self-development programs that foster moral discipline and positive habits; (3) synergistic collaboration among schools, families, and communities as the three centers of value-based education; and (4) strengthening teachers’ capacities as moral role models and primary facilitators of character-based learning. The implementation of IM-CE2M demonstrates that character education not only serves as a means of preventing demoralization but also forms the foundation for developing students who are faithful, critical, creative, and ethical embodying the ideals of the Pancasila Student Profile. Thus, integrating character education within the Merdeka Curriculum represents a transformative strategy to cultivate a young Indonesian generation with strong character, global competitiveness, and steadfast commitment to universal moral and humanitarian values.

Abstract

Management, evaluation, and accountability issues remain problems in guidance and counseling services. This study aims to explore the perceptions of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Bogor regarding accountability in guidance and counseling services. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects were eight BK teachers at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Bogor who were selected using purposive sampling. Structured interviews were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. This study found that BK teachers’ perceptions of accountability were divided into five main categories: (1) conceptual understanding of accountability, (2) documentation and reporting practices, (3) barriers to implementing accountability, (4) understanding of MEASURE, and (5) analysis of each aspect of MEASURE. BK teachers understanding of accountability tended to be general, documentation practices were still limited to administrative aspects, and there were various obstacles in the implementation of accountability. The conclusion of this study is BK teachers’ perceptions of accountability are still in the early stages of understanding and basic implementation. Structural interventions such as training, integration of digital documentation systems, and strengthening of regulations are needed to encourage more reflective and collaborative accountability. Abstract

Although research on self-compassion has increased, there is still a lack of empirically validated self-compassion instruments that demonstrate measurement fairness across gender and cultural backgrounds in specific institutional contexts. This study aimed to develop a Self-Compassion Inventory (SCI) and examine its psychometric properties using a sample of university students from IKIP Siliwangi, Bandung. A total of 514 undergraduate students participated in the study through an online survey administered via Google Forms, consisting of 145 male students (28.2%) and 369 female students (71.8%), representing diverse cultural backgrounds, including Bali, Cirebon, Betawi, Jawa, Batak, Minangkabau, and Sunda ethnicities. The SCI was constructed based on three core dimensions of self-compassion: Self-Kindness versus Self-Judgment, Common Humanity versus Isolation, and Mindfulness versus Over-Identification. Data were analyzed using the Rasch measurement model to evaluate item fit, dimensionality, reliability, and differential item functioning (DIF) across gender and cultural groups. The findings indicate that the SCI functions as a valid, reliable, and fair instrument for assessing self-compassion among university students. Most items exhibited good model fit, and the instrument showed stable item calibration. DIF analysis revealed no significant cultural bias, while limited gender-based DIF was identified and addressed during item refinement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of research on the character of empathy in the context of early childhood social-emotional development through a bibliometric approach. Data were obtained from scientific publications using the Publish or Perish application during the period 2016-2026. Bibliometric analysis was used with the help of VOS viewer software to analyze annual trends, dominant keywords, and the number of publications based on data collection on Google Scholar. Furthermore, the analysis results show differences in research publications in Indonesia from 2016 to 2026, which can be periodized as follows: 2016-2019 as a period of research focused on theory formation and instrument development, 2020-2023 as a period of contextualization and relationality, and 2024-2026 as a period focused on intervention. Furthermore, keyword mapping reveals the relationship between empathy and the social-emotional learning approach in early childhood education practices. These findings provide a comprehensive overview of scientific developments and identify opportunities for further research, particularly in the context of early childhood education in Indonesia. This study is expected to serve as a reference for researchers and practitioners in developing innovative and novel studies and practices for strengthening empathy in early childhood.
