Abstract

Opu Daeng Risaju was a warrior and one of the pioneers of the Indonesian Islamic Union Party (PSII) in Tanah Luwu. Although Opu Daeng Risaju was a woman, her determination and fighting spirit were immense. Opu Daeng Risaju was determined to realize her dream of eliminating the colonizers in Tanah Luwu, South Sulawesi. Opu Daeng Risaju's struggle through the PSII was well received by the Muslim community in Luwu, as the majority of the population in this region is Muslim, making Islamic-oriented movements more easily accepted by the community. This study will examine the response of the Muslim community to Opu Daeng Risaju's struggle against colonialism in Luwu. This study will focus on three main areas of discussion. First, it will discuss the background of the community in Luwu before 1930. Second, it will discuss the efforts made by Opu Daeng Risaju in fighting colonialism in Luwu from 1930 to 1946. Third, it will examine the response of the Muslim community to Opu Daeng Risaju's struggle. This research employs a socio-political approach, utilizing the concept of struggle based on Louis Thurstone's theory of response. The research method used is historical research, involving the steps of heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reading ability of fourth-grade students in Indonesian Language learning at SDN 182/1 Hutan Lindung. The background of this research is the discovery of students who have difficulty maintaining reading concentration, differences in individual reading speed, and the impact of reading ability gaps on classroom learning dynamics. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques according to Creswell, including observation, interviews, and documentation. The data source of this study is the fourth-grade teacher of SDN 182/1 Hutan Lindung as the main informant. Interviews were conducted using semi-structured techniques based on 12 systematically prepared questions. The results show that in general, the reading ability of fourth-grade students is in the good category, with an achievement of around 80 percent. The main obstacles found in the field are difficulty in maintaining students' concentration during sustained reading sessions, significant differences in reading speed between individuals, and there are still students who read more slowly than their peers. Alternative solutions offered include the application of gamification methods, timed reading techniques, differentiated learning, and structured follow-up reflections. This research is expected to provide a real contribution to improving the quality of reading learning in fourth grade elementary school.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low narrative writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 56/I Aro Village. Students experienced difficulty developing ideas, constructing a storyline, and writing coherently. This study aimed to improve narrative writing skills through the Think Talk Write learning model, supported by a series of pictures. The study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, implemented in two cycles, each encompassing planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Sixteen students participated in the study. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, and then analyzed descriptively. The results showed an improvement in students' writing skills in each cycle. In the pre-action phase, the average student achievement was 30%. After the implementation of the action in Cycle I, the results increased to 43% in the first meeting and 56% in the second meeting. In Cycle II, the results increased again to 65% in the first meeting and reached 85% in the second meeting, categorized as good. This improvement occurred because the Think Talk Write model encouraged students to think, discuss, and write systematically, while the series of pictures helped students understand the sequence of events and develop story ideas. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Think Talk Write learning model assisted by a series of picture media is effective in improving the narrative writing skills of fifth grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Educational game-based learning has become increasingly prevalent in global educational contexts, extending beyond traditional English classrooms and contributing to increased student motivation, engagement, and competence. This study examined the effectiveness of integrating educational games into English language learning compared with conventional teaching methods in a junior high school in Jambi Province, Indonesia. English instruction at the junior high school level often faces challenges, particularly because many students enter secondary education with limited prior exposure to English. To address this issue, the present study investigated the use of several educational game applications—Duolingo, Quizlet, ABCmouse, and Kahoot—to improve English language skills among seventh-grade students over one semester. The research employed a quantitative experimental design involving 58 students divided into two groups: an experimental group (n = 29) that used educational games and a control group (n = 29) that received conventional instruction. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests assessing vocabulary, grammar, and communicative competence. Statistical analysis using an independent samples t-test revealed no significant difference between groups at the pre-test stage (t = 0.45, p = 0.65). However, after the intervention, the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores (M = 73, SD = 4) than the control group (M = 65, SD = 6), with a significant difference (t = ?6.334, p < 0.001) and a large effect size (d = 1.63). These findings indicate that integrating educational games can substantially enhance students’ engagement and English language proficiency. Practically, this study highlights the potential of combining multiple educational game applications to support technology-integrated English instruction and improve learning outcomes in Indonesian secondary schools.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the still-low reading comprehension skills of elementary school students, which hinder the achievement of literacy competencies. The study aims to describe the nature of reading comprehension difficulties, identify their causes, and examine teachers’ efforts to address them among fourth-grade students at SDN 14/I Sungai Baung. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data sources consisting of fourth-grade students and teachers. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis utilized an interactive model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the students’ main difficulties include understanding main ideas, the meaning of vocabulary, and drawing conclusions from texts. The contributing factors stem from both internal student factors and external learning factors. Teachers’ efforts were implemented through the use of contextual learning strategies and the provision of intensive reading practice. The findings also reveal that conventional teaching methods, limited learning media, and insufficient parental support at home are external factors that further exacerbate students' reading comprehension difficulties. These findings have important implications for the development of more effective reading learning strategies in elementary schools.

Abstract

Reading comprehension skills among elementary school students are still relatively low. Many students have difficulty understanding texts, identifying main ideas, and answering questions based on reading materials. This condition is influenced by low reading interest and less effective teaching methods. Therefore, an appropriate learning method is needed to help students read actively and systematically, one of which is the Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) method. This study aims to analyze the use of the SQ3R method in improving elementary school students’ reading comprehension skills through a literature review. The research method used was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) model. Data sources were obtained from scientific articles published between 2016 and 2026 through Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar databases using the Publish or Perish application. A total of 40 relevant articles were identified and selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that the SQ3R method effectively improves reading comprehension skills, reading interest, student participation, and learning outcomes in elementary schools. Therefore, the SQ3R method can be used as an effective alternative learning strategy in Indonesian language learning.
