Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ nonfiction reading comprehension skills through the implementation of the cooperative learning model of the Talking Stick type in Grade V at SDN 80/I, Muara Bulian District. The method used is classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, learning outcome tests, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of the Talking Stick model can improve students' learning outcomes in reading comprehension of nonfiction texts. This is evidenced by an increase in the average student score from 64.5 in cycle I to 75 in cycle II. In addition, there was an increase in students’ active participation in learning activities, especially in discussing, expressing opinions, and understanding the content of the reading. This model also creates a more enjoyable and collaborative learning atmosphere. Therefore, the cooperative learning model of the Talking Stick type is effectively used to improve nonfiction reading comprehension skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve student engagement in mathematics learning by implementing the “Pulau Pengurangan” board game as a learning media through the Cooperative Learning Model, Make A Match type. The classroom action research was conducted in grade II of SDN 111/1 Muara Bulian during April–May 2025, consisting of two cycles, each with two meetings. Data were collected through observations based on three indicators: enthusiasm in learning, willingness to answer questions, and effort to solve problems. The results showed a significant improvement in students' learning activity. Initially, in the pre-action stage, engagement was only 46.88%. After implementing the action, it increased to 55% in Cycle I (meeting II), and finally reached 70% in Cycle II (meeting II). This study concludes that using the Pulau Pengurangan board game effectively enhances students’ active participation in mathematics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the differentiated approach in addressing disparities in students’ understanding of multiplication material in Grade III at SDN 34/I Teratai. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method using the spiral model of Kemmis and McTaggart, consisting of two cycles, with a total of 23 student participants. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and learning outcome tests. The results showed that the differentiated approach significantly improved students’ understanding, as indicated by an increase in the average score from 68.20 in the first cycle to 82.60 in the second cycle, and an increase in classical learning completeness from 56% to 80%. This approach effectively accommodated differences in students’ learning styles, interests, and readiness, thus positively impacting learning outcomes. Therefore, implementing a differentiated approach is a viable alternative strategy to create inclusive and effective learning environments.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on improving the mathematics learning motivation of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 14/I Sungai Baung. The background of this research is based on the low level of student motivation in mathematics which is evident from the lack of active participation, low enthusiasm in completing assignments, and passive attitudes during lessons. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 14 students in class V A. Data collection instruments included a learning motivation questionnaire, teacher and student observation sheets, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model had a positive impact on students' motivation to learn mathematics. In the first cycle, the average motivation score was 61,4 with a classical completeness rate of 57.14%. After improvements in the second cycle, the average motivation score increased to 80, with a classical completeness rate of 85.71%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning model is effective in increasing elementary school students’ motivation to learn mathematics.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of improving reading comprehension of standard vocabulary among fourth-grade students at SDN 080/I KM 3 Ma. Bulian through the implementation of an innovative learning medium in the form of digital flashcards created using Canva. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The results showed that the use of digital flashcard media increased the students’ average score from 68 in the first cycle to 82 in the second cycle and also increased the number of students who scored above average. This improvement indicates that Canva-based interactive visual media is effective in capturing students' attention, encouraging active participation in learning, and enhancing understanding of standard vocabulary within reading contexts. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers in developing instructional media that align with the characteristics and needs of elementary school students in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the storytelling method on students' speaking ability and self-confidence in learning Indonesian in class IV SDN 14/I Sungai Baung. The background of this study is based on the low ability of students to express opinions orally and lack of self-confidence when speaking in public. This study uses a classroom action approach (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles with 20 students as subjects. The data collection technique is carried out through direct observation using an assessment sheet that includes five indicators of speaking ability and five indicators of self-confidence. The results of the study showed that the storytelling method was significantly able to improve both aspects. In cycle I, there were still a number of students who were less active and not yet confident, but in cycle II there was a significant increase in aspects of pronunciation, intonation, use of gestures, and courage in speaking and actively participating. The average class score also increased from 68.75 in cycle I to 78.5 in cycle II. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the storytelling method is effective in improving students' speaking ability and self-confidence in learning Indonesian in elementary schools.

Abstract

The low levels of students' numeracy skills and learning interest in mathematics present a challenge in elementary education. This study aims to improve numeracy skills and learn-ing motivation through the implementation of a Wordwall-based Game Based Learning (GBL) model. The research employed a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative methods using numeracy tests and learning interest questionnaires with qualitative met-ods such as classroom observations and interviews. The study involved 19 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 80 Kota Jambi. The results showed a steady increase in the average numeracy scores, from 63.2 in the first meeting of cycle 1 to 81.3 in the second meeting of cycle 2. Likewise, the average learning interest score increased from 68.5 to 84.5. These findings indicate that interactive media like Wordwall not only enhances students’ contextual understanding of mathematical concepts but also fosters greater motivation and engagement in learning. It can be concluded that the Wordwall-based GBL model is effe-tive in improving both numeracy skills and learning interest through an enjoyable ap-proach aligned with the characteristics of 21st-century learners.

Abstract

Speaking is a fundamental skill that needs to be developed early at the elementary level. This skill not only supports daily communication but also serves as an essential foundation for active and participatory learning. However, many students still struggle to express ideas, participate in discussions, and communicate orally in the classroom. These challenges highlight the need for more interactive teaching strategies. This study aims to explore the implementation of classroom discussion methods in Civic Education (PKn) lessons on the topic of rights and obligations as an effort to improve students’ speaking skills. The research employed a qualitative approach using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, conducted in two cycles involving 23 third-grade students at SDN 56/I Desa Aro. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and field notes, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques to understand the learning process and its impact on students’ speaking development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students in learning science, especially in grade V. The research also aims to improve students' abilities in learning science by using the role playing method. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of 2 cycles and each cycle consists of 4 actions, namely planning, implementation, closing and reflection. The results of the study showed that there was an increase in students' activeness in learning science through the role playing method. Of the 20 students, the student's learning completeness in cycle 1 was only 40%, but in cycle 2 it reached 75% with an average value of 73.8. The increase in student activity proves that the use of the role playing method can increase student activity in learning science, especially in the food chain material.
