Abstract

This study investigates the influence of motivation levels and interaction effects on students' Mathematical Comprehension Ability (KPM) while utilizing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL). Employing a quasi-experimental with the 3x2 factorial design, the research was conducted with fourth-grade students in Ciamis Regency, West Java. The findings indicated that the average KPM increase for students using PBL was 53%, which is considered moderate, whereas for IBL, it was 29%, which is categorized as low. Significantly, there were variations in learning effects between PBL and IBL (p < 0.001), with PBL demonstrating a more pronounced impact on KPM improvement. However, the influence of motivation level on KPM improvement was deemed insignificant (p = 0.192), as was the interaction effect between learning methods and motivation level on KPM improvement (p = 0.057). In conclusion, the study suggests that PBL is more effective than IBL in enhancing students' KPM. At the same time, motivation level does not significantly influence KPM improvement, and there is no interaction effect between the type of learning method and motivation level on KPM improvement.

Abstract

Etnomatematika telah menjadi tren dalam bidang Pendidikan budayaserta melestarikan keberadaan nilai – nilai budaya dimasa depan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tren dan mengidentifikasi publikasi terkait etnomatematika dalam Pembelajaran Matematika. Tren publikasi yang memiliki jumlah dokumen terbanyak, klasifikasi peringkat lembaga atau universitas, jurnal dan dokumen serta penggunaan keyword bersama dengan menggunakan database dari google scholar. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis bibliometrik. Sebanyak 246 dokumen yang terkumpul dari aplikasi Publish or Perish (PoP) menggunakan database google scholar yang kemudian disatukan dalam 1 file dengan format RIS dan dimasukkan kedalam aplikasi VOSviewer untuk mendapatkan network visualization dan overlay visualization. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tren publikasi terkait etnomatematika dalam Pembelajaran Matematika di Indonesia mengalami peningkatan setiap tahunnya (2017-2022). Adapun jumlah dokumen terbanyak yaitu pada lembaga “Indraprasta PGRI University”, pada jurnal “Jurnal Cendekia Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika”, pada artikel (Hardiarti, 2017). Permainan menjadi keyword etnomatematika yang paling banyak digunakan, Keyword yang menjadi tema baru adalah pengembangan modul, video pembelajaram kearifan lokal, dan ornamen masjid.

Abstract

Self-confidence and cognitive style are important variables that influence the behavior of students in the academic field, the continued development of academic abilities, how learning is carried out, and how they interact in classroom activities. Learning activities will be expected more effective because all of the learning steps going to be attractive and get to reach the learning achievements if students have good self-confidence. So, all of these things are related to mathematical communication ability. The data on students' mathematical communication ability scores that were influenced by two factors, the level of self-confidence and different cognitive styles, were analyzed by the experimental design carried out in this research was a 3x2 Completely Randomized Factorial Design. The observation data were analyzed statistically with the F-test at a significance level of 5%. From the test of between-subjects effects, the output data was on the ANOVA table. We can get the conclusion that there was factors interaction which can be seen by p-value (Sig.) < α = 0.05, which means rejected H0. There was an effect of interaction between self-confidence with cognitive style significantly to mathematical communication ability

Abstract

Studies emphasize that learning motivation is one of the primary elements that affect the achievement of learning objectives and at the same time, influences the skill of mathematical problem-solving. Research on the correlation between mathematical problem-solving and learning motivation despite numerous attempts at solutions, the correlation value is heterogeneous, making it inconsistent. This study aims to summarize the effect-size values obtained based on the main research through the correlation meta-analysis method. The literature data collection technique used the Google Scholar database which was selected using the inclusion criteria. Primary studies that fit the criteria consisted of 20 studies published in journals, proceedings, and theses from 2016 to 2022. Three steps of data analysis, including publication bias research, random or fixed effect models, and statistical hypothesis testing, were conducted using the Jeffreys Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) program. The results of the study show that there is a positive influence of learning motivation on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Indonesia in the moderate category (r = 0,56; p < 0,01). The results of this study suggest educators to further optimize students' learning motivation because learning motivation influences the level of students' mathematical problem-solving ability. Keywords:  Learning motivation, mathematical problem-solving, problem-solving, meta-analysis

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental research that aims to determine the relationship between metacognitive abilities and students' self-determination in mathematics subjects based on gender. The population in this study were all students in class VIII of Lhokseumawe City Islamic Middle School with a sample of 27 students. Data was obtained from the results of a self-determination ability questionnaire and a metacognitive questionnaire which was then carried out by Spearman correlation testing. The results of the correlation between metacognitive abilities and self-termination obtained a significance value which shows that there is a correlation between metacognitive abilities and students' self-determination in learning mathematics. For the correlation between metacognitive abilities and students' self-determination in learning mathematics in terms of gender using the Spearman correlation test for each gender, correlation values ​​were obtained for males (r_1) and females (r_2). Based on the results of the difference test between the means of two independent groups, a z-count value was obtained which shows that there is no difference in correlation between the two groups.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether ethnomathematics of batik motifs can be used as a mathematics learning approach and implemented in schools. The results of identifying articles from 2013 to 2023 through systematic literature review (SLR) referring to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta Analysis (PRISMA) obtained 12 sinta articles from a database of 200 articles. The findings of the SLR are two types of articles that are implemented directly to students in schools and only examine ethnomathematics from various batik motifs, geometry transformation material obtained from all articles

Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking is one of the most important skills that students must possess. The ability to think critically in mathematics is an essential skill that can be developed through effective teaching practices and student engagement.  This article presents the questions to be investigated regarding critical thinking using bibliometric analysis. Bibliometric analysis is a method used to analyze research articles related to a chosen topic. The data source for this analysis is Scopus. The search was filtered by subject area, document type, language, and publication year.  According to the results from Scopus, a total of 148 documents related to mathematical critical thinking were obtained from 2019 until May 2023. Based on the co-occurrence analysis of authors' keywords, besides 'critical thinking' and 'critical thinking skills', 'secondary school' and 'secondary education' appeared most frequently, with 6 occurrences. These trends in the number of articles can provide insights into the research interests in this field.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan memperoleh gambaran secara komprehensif tentangPeningkatan Kemampuan Pemahaman Matematis (KPM) Siswa SD MelaluiModel Problem Based Learning (PBL) dan Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal geometri segibanyak. Metode di dalam penelitian ini adalah mixed method dengan jenis explanatory sequential. Dalam tahapan kuantitatif digunakan penelitian deskriptif dan kuasi eksperimen dengan jenis one group pretest-postest design dan dengan desain factorial 3 x 2. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas IV SDN 1 Girimukti berjumlah 16 orang dan kelas IV SDN 2 Girimukti berjumlah 12 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan Kemampuan Pemahaman Matematis (KPM) Siswa melalui implementasi model Problem Based Learning (PBL) berpengaruh secara signifikan dibandingkan dengan model Inquiry Based Learning (IBL), kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang memiliki tingkat motivasi tinggi mengungguli siswa yang memiliki tingkat motivasi rendah, siswa yang memiliki tingkat motivasi tinggi memiliki seluruh indicator kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang dibutuhkan dalam menyelesaikan masalah, siswa yang memiliki tingkat motivasi sedang atau rendah, kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang dimiliki hanya sampai pada indicator mendefinisikan konsep secara verbal dan tulisan, dan mengidentifikasi dan membuat contoh dan bukan contoh.

Abstract

Didactic transposition is an approach that allows the delivery of material more effectively and in accordance with student needs. The aim of this research is to explore how the concept of fractions is taught to fifth-grade elementary school students based on the didactic transposition approach. This research is part of didactic transposition research on fractional material, which consists of four stages: scholarly knowledge, knowledge to be taught, taught knowledge, and learned knowledge. Specifically, in this writing, the findings are presented only for the taught knowledge stage using qualitative research with descriptive methods. The results of the research show that the material presented in PBM shows a shift in knowledge on the concept of fractions from the concept of fractions as scholarly knowledge and knowledge to be taught to the concept of fractions as taught knowledge. This transition shows that there is a conceptual gap, both the concept gap between the concept definition presented by teachers in PBM as taught knowledge and the formal concept definition of scholarly knowledge, as well as the concept gap between the concept definition presented in PBM as taught knowledge and the concept definition presented in school mathematics textbooks as knowledge to be taught.

Abstract

Many research studies have shown that female students’ mathematical literacy is better than male students. However, the previous research viewed students’ mathematical literacy qualitatively. Maybe there are differences between the mathematical literacy of male and female students, but is it genuinely significant? Therefore, this research aimed to quantitatively investigate the differences in mathematical literacy between male and female students to provide empirical proof. In this study, 116 students at junior high school were the samples. The mathematical literacy test collected data about students’ mathematical literacy. The data were then analyzed using a comparison test of Mann-Whitney U to examine the hypotheses. The result showed no significant difference between male and female students’ mathematical literacy and whether, in general, and viewed from gender, students have low mathematical literacy. The factor that may affect the low and no significant difference between male and female students regarding mathematical literacy is teachers rarely provide students with mathematical literacy problems during the teaching and learning process.
