Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the understanding on mathematic concept who were taught by using Quick On The Draw Technique was better than the students who were taught by using conventional technique at Class VIII SMPN 1 Ranah Batahan Kabupaten Pasaman Barat. Quasi experimental that designed randomized control group only design. The population of this research was class VIII students of SMP N 1 Ranah Batahan Kabupaten Pasaman Barat of 4 class. For determine the experimental class and the control class is done by randomly. Classes are chosen as experimental class is a class experiment is VIII.2 class and control class is the class VIII.3. The hypothesis of this study is understanding on mathematic concept who were taught using Quick On The Draw Technique was better that the students who were taught using conventional technique at class VIII of SMPN 1 Ranah Batahan Kabupaten Pasaman Barat. Based on the result of final test students’ understanding on mathematic concept in experiment class was higher than the control class. It can be seen from the mean score of experiment class 70.89,control class was 57.78.Hypothesis testing by using t-test showed that t-was higher than t-hitung>t-tabel  (1.97 > 1.68) with degree of freedom 95% so hypothesis is accepted. In conclusion, students’ understanding on mathematic concept who were taught by using Quick On The Draw technique was higher than the students who were taught by using conventional technique at calss VIII of SMPN 1 Ranah Batahan Kabupaten Pasaman Barat. Based on the above description the researcher gives advice to mathematical educator, to make quick on the draw technique as one of alternative to improve understanding of mathematical concepts of learners.Keyword : Quick on The Draw Technique, Understanding on Mathematic Concept

Abstract

Learning model chosen by educators teacher has not been able to accommodate the mathematics problems of students. For that, the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model was applied. The purpose of research is to collation the mathematical problem solving abilities of students who are using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model and using the ordinary learning model (scientific approach). This type of research is a quasy experiment with randomized control group only design. The population of this study were all students of class VII SMPN 1 Danau Kembar. For to get sample class with random sampling technique. As for the research instrument used in the study is a test of mathematical problem solving students abilities. Based on the results of this avarage mathematical problem solving students abilities experiment class and control class is 80,30 and 73,16. Than the hypothesis testing using the t-test. From calculation result obtained t_count > t_table 2,21 > 1,64) with alpha=0,05 with 95% confidence interval so H0 rejected and accepted H1.Keywords : Mathematical problem solving abilities, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine that the conceptual understanding of math and problem solving skill of students taught using the application of active learning strategies types Inquiring Mind Want to Know better than the conceptual understanding of math students taught using conventional strategy. This research is a quasi-experimental research with the design of randomized control group only design. The populations in this study were five classes of students of grade VII SMPN 35 Padang (165 students). The choice of class random sampling (random data retrieval). Classes are chosen as experimental class is a class VII.4 and control class is the class VII.5.  Data were taken from the results of final test is a test essay from each class. Based on the data analysis of research obtained that the understanding of math concepts and problem solving experimental class students is higher than the control class. This is evident from the average value of the test understanding of concepts and mathematical problem solving experimental class students is 76,45 while the average grade control is 63,27. Hypothesis testing using t-test, obtained tcalculate > ttable   (1,72 > 1,65) with a 95% confidence level, the hypothesis is accepted. So it can be concluded that the understanding of math concepts and problem solving students who apply active learning strategies types “Inquiring Mind Want to Know” better than on understanding math concepts and problem solving students using conventional teaching in class VII SMPN 35 Padang.Keywords: Active learning strategies types Inquiring Mind Want to Know, understanding math concepts, and problem solving

Abstract

One of the problems in the world of education was the limited teaching materials that can help students enrich their experience, build students 'knowledge and support students' thinking skills to construct their own understanding in solving mathematical problems. One way that can be done to complement the shortcomings of teaching materials is to design an LKPD. LKPD is made using the CTL approach. Based on this, a CTL-based student worksheet (LKPD) was developed on set material for class VII students. This study aims to 1) produce CTL based LKPD that meets valid criteria 2) produce CTL based LKPD that meets practical criteria and 3) produces CTL based LKPD that meets the effective criteria. This is a development research with 4-D models. consists of four stages of development that is define, design, develop and disseminate. This research is only up to the stage of define, design and develop. Define’s  stage consists of : a) front end analysis b) student analysis c) concept analysis d) task analysis. Design’s stage consists of : a) LKPD design b) instrument design and validation of instrument penilain module. Develop’s stage consists of : a) the stage of validity  b) the stage of practicability an c) the stage of effectiveness. The results of this study indicate that based on the validator's assessment, The developed LKPD meets very valid criteria with an average of 89,14%. Based on the results of filling the practical questionnaire for educators, practical questionnaire for students and interviews with students showed that LKPD which was developed very practically was used in the mathematics learning of set material with an average of 88,20% by educators and 84,20% by students. Based on the results of the analysis of learning outcomes obtained the average value of the pre test is 59,9655 and the post test average value was 79,3793, then carried out the hypothesis with the t-test. From the calculation results obtained 5,0493 and  thus  with a confidence level of 95%. This shows that the hypothesis is accepted, meaning that the mathematical connection ability of students after using LKPD is better than the students’ mathematical connection ability before using LKPD so that it can be concluded that  CTL based LKPD is effectively used

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding whether student learning activities and problem solving ability of the students taught by using problem centered learning is better than those of taught by conventional learning. This study is a quasy experiment using randomized control group only design. Population of this study was all of the grade VIII students of MTsN Koto Tangah Padang in 2015/2016 period. It used random sampling technique. Based on observation paper analysis, the student learning activities increased in every meeting. Problem solving ability of the students taught by using problem centered learning model was better than those of taught by using conventional learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop lesson plans and handouts based on Guided Note Taking on Algebraic Operations material. This type of research is development research with a 4-D model proposed by S. Thiagarajaan (1974) which consists of four stages of development, namely definition, design, development and dissemination. The define stage consists of: a) educator analysis b) student analysis c) concept analysis d) curriculum/syllabus analysis and learning objectives. The design phase consists of: a) device design b) instrument design and validation of learning device assessment instruments. The develop stage consists of: a) validity stage b) practicality stage. The results of this study indicate that based on the assessment of 5 validators, the learning tool, namely the RPP developed, meets the criteria of being very valid with an average of 90% and the Handout meets the criteria of "very valid" with an average of 88%. Based on the results of filling out practicality questionnaires for educators, student response questionnaires and interviews with students, it shows that the Handout developed is very practical to use in learning mathematics in algebraic operations with an average of 90% by educators and 92% by students. Thus, it can be concluded that this research produces a mathematics learning device based on the Guided Note Taking approach with very valid and practical criteria.

Abstract

The mathematical problem solving ability of class VIII students at MTsN 1 kota Payakumbuh is still relatively low. The Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition learning model is one of the proposed solutions. This article aims to describe the mathematical problem solving abilities of students who study with the Cooperative Integrad Reading and Composition learning model as being higher than the mathematical problem solving abilities of students who study with scientific learning in class VIII MTsN 1 Kota Payakumbuh. This research is a type of quasi-experimental research with a randomized control group only design. The population of this study was all class VIII at MTsN 1 Kota Payakumbuh. The research sample was class VIII.7 as the experimental class and class VIII.9 as the control class. The instrument used is a test of mathematical problem solving abilities. The test results in the experimental class mean the mathematical problem solving ability of students taught using the Cooperative Integrad Reading and Composition learning model was 79.01 and in the control class was 69.17. The data analysis technique used is the one-way t-test. Hypothesis test results using the t-test with α=0,05 at the 95% confidence level obtained t_hitung (3,43)t_tabel (1,67) then H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, this means that the mathematical problem solving abilities of students who study using the Cooperative Integrad Reading and Composition learning model are higher than the mathematical problem solving abilities of students who study using scientific learning
