Abstract

University students frequently experience existential concerns alongside subclinical psychological distress, including reduced meaning in life, depression, and anxiety. Meaning-centered group counseling based on logotherapy has been proposed as a preventive intervention; however, evidence for young adult populations remains limited. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review with Network Analysis (SLNA) conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines to examine the effectiveness and research landscape of meaning-centered group counseling for university students. A systematic search of the Scopus database (2015-2025) identified five controlled studies (N = 206) involving group-based logotherapy interventions for individuals aged 18-25 years. Meaning in life was the primary outcome, while depression, anxiety, and stress were secondary outcomes. Due to heterogeneity, data were synthesized using SWiM guidelines and complemented by a bibliometric keyword co-occurrence analysis of 47 Scopus-indexed articles using VOSviewer. The results indicate consistent and significant improvements in meaning in life (p < 0.05) with large effect sizes, accompanied by reductions in psychological distress. These findings support meaning-centered group counseling as an effective preventive intervention in university counseling settings.

Abstract

Multicultural society is a social reality characterized by cultural, ethnic, religious, and social value diversity, which has the potential to become both a source of strength and a source of conflict if not properly managed. In this context, prosocial behavior plays an important role in building harmonious social relations and strengthening social cohesion between groups. This study aimed to examine prosocial behavior in multicultural society from a social psychology perspective using a literature review approach. A qualitative method was employed by analyzing and synthesizing various national and international scholarly articles relevant to prosocial behavior, empathy, social identity, social norms, cultural values, and intergroup contact. The findings show that prosocial behavior in multicultural societies is influenced by the complex interaction of empathy, social identity, social norms, cultural values, and the intensity of intergroup contact. Empathy functions as a primary psychological mechanism that motivates individuals to help and cooperate across group boundaries, while inclusive social identity expands prosocial behavior from the in-group to the out-group. In addition, positive intergroup contact and multicultural norms that support tolerance and social justice have been shown to reduce prejudice and increase prosocial behavior. This review emphasizes that strengthening empathy, inclusive values, and multicultural education constitutes a key strategy for building harmony and social cohesion amid societal diversity.

Abstract

Attitude change is an important area of inquiry in social psychology because it relates to individuals’ responses to information and persuasive messages across various communication contexts. This article aims to examine the mechanisms of attitude change through Cognitive Dissonance Theory (CDT) and the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM). The study employs a qualitative literature review approach by examining classical and contemporary works from relevant national and international open-access journals on attitude change and persuasion. The findings indicate that CDT explains attitude change as an individual’s attempt to reduce discomfort arising from cognitive conflict when inconsistencies occur between beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours, whereas ELM explains attitude change based on message processing routes, namely the central route involving deep elaboration and the peripheral route relying on simple cues. The integration of these two theories suggests that attitude change is the result of an interaction between internal drives to achieve cognitive consistency and external information-processing mechanisms within the persuasion process. This review provides a theoretical contribution by clarifying the complementary relationship between CDT and ELM in understanding the dynamics of attitude change in social psychology.

Abstract

Prejudice is a psychological phenomenon that remains prevalent in social interactions, particularly in plural societies, and is closely related to how individuals construct and interpret their social identities. This article aims to theoretically examine the relationship between social identity and prejudice from a social psychology perspective. The method used is a literature review by analysing relevant theories and previous empirical findings, particularly Social Identity Theory, Self-Categorization Theory, and Realistic Conflict Theory. The review indicates that processes of social categorization, the need for a positive social identity, and ingroup–outgroup dynamics are key mechanisms explaining the emergence and reinforcement of prejudice towards other groups. The article concludes that social identity plays a central role in the formation of prejudice and underscores the importance of a comprehensive conceptual understanding as the basis for developing psychological intervention strategies to reduce prejudice and strengthen social harmony in plural societies.

Abstract

Social identity, stereotypes, and prejudice are key concepts in social psychology that play a major role in shaping patterns of interaction between individuals and groups, and in the current context of globalization and digitalization the dynamics of group identity and the potential emergence of stereotypes and prejudice are becoming increasingly complex. This study aims to systematically examine theories of social identity, stereotypes, and prejudice and their applications in contemporary social phenomena through a literature review approach. The method used is a literature study by reviewing various relevant scientific sources on the concepts of social identity, stereotypes, and prejudice, then analyzing them by identifying the main themes, key concepts, and patterns of relationships among concepts that emerge in previous studies. The results of the review show that social identity plays an important role in forming ingroup and outgroup categories, which subsequently influence the ways individuals evaluate, treat, and interact with other groups. Further discussion reveals that stereotypes and prejudice are influenced not only by individual cognitive factors, but also by social and cultural contexts and the role of the media, especially in the era of modern social life that is strongly influenced by digital media. These findings affirm that a comprehensive understanding of theories of social identity, stereotypes, and prejudice becomes an important foundation for managing diversity and building more inclusive social relations in contemporary society.

Abstract

The role of parents is crucial in developing talent and creativity in the field of dance art among early childhood children. Through active parental involvement in providing motivation, appreciation, a supportive environment, and collaboration with Minangkabau dance studios, parents can facilitate the growth of children’s motor, emotional, and cognitive creativity. This study aims to analyze the role of parents in consistently motivating and fully supporting the talents, interests, and creativity of early childhood children in dance art. This study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, focusing on parents’ experiences in fully supporting their children’s talents, interests, and creativity in dance art by encouraging and facilitating the development of their children’s dance skills. Data collection techniques involved data triangulation, including observation, interviews, and documentation. Through observation, the researcher monitored the Satampang Baniah dance studio in the Kuranji area and PAUD Tunas Bangsa. Subsequently, in-depth interviews were conducted with parents and dance instructors, and documentation was collected of early childhood children participating in dance performances at an event. The results of this study indicate that parents play a very important role in developing and motivating children’s talents, interests, and creativity in dance art through emotional support, the provision of facilities, and active parental involvement in children’s activities at dance studios, schools, and outside school settings. Parents who provide opportunities for children to remain active and enthusiastic about developing creativity, interests, and talents, as well as space for children to explore dance art, also motivate and encourage children to improve their dance skills and support their social and emotional development. This study further offers recommendations for parents and Minangkabau dance studios to give greater attention to the importance of parental roles in supporting dance art talents in early childhood.

Abstract

Abstract

Social structure, social stratification, and social conflict are fundamental elements in understanding the dynamics of community life and their impact on individual welfare. This article aims to comprehensively examine the concepts of social structure, social stratification, and social conflict, as well as analyze their implications for guidance and counseling practices. The method used is a literature review by examining various relevant scientific sources, both books and reputable journal articles, to obtain a deep conceptual and empirical understanding. The results of the study show that social structure is formed through the interrelationship of status, roles, groups, institutions, norms, and values that regulate patterns of interaction in society. Social stratification creates hierarchical layers that have implications for unequal access to resources, opportunities, and social services. These conditions have the potential to trigger social conflicts arising from individual, cultural, political and economic differences, as well as social changes accelerated by globalization and digital technology. In the context of guidance and counseling, understanding the reality of social structure and stratification is crucial for counselors to be able to provide fair, inclusive, and non-discriminatory services. Therefore, counselors are required to have multicultural competence and conflict management skills to support the optimal development of clients in a diverse and dynamic society

Abstract

Guidance and counseling (GC) management in schools is a crucial component in ensuring effective services for students. However, empirical studies related to its management models, outcomes, and challenges are still scattered and not systematically integrated. This study aims to systematically review the literature on GC management in schools. The method used was a systematic literature review with reference to the PRISMA guidelines. Article searches were conducted through the Scopus database with the support of the WataseUake.id platform for the period 2015-2025. Of the 607 identified articles, a step-by-step screening process resulted in seven articles that met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. The results of the study indicate that GC management is evolving towards a comprehensive and systems-based approach, such as the Comprehensive School Counseling Program and the ASCA National Model, which has a positive impact on service effectiveness and counselor professionalism, despite still facing limited resources and policy support.
