Abstract

Fine arts education in higher education is often trapped in a dichotomy between industrial demands and bureaucratic formalism, which potentially triggers an "erosion of meaning" and "psychological exhaustion" within the academic community. This research aims to identify critical gaps between art education practices in the Fine Arts Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) and the fundamental psychological needs of students and lecturers. Using a Critical Educational Criticism approach, this study analyzes the institutional ecology, including human resources, infrastructure, and curriculum structure. The findings indicate a systemic neglect of fundamental psychological principles, particularly Self-Determination Theory (autonomy, competence, and relatedness), Subjective Well-being, and the failure to integrate humanistic psychology into the art criticism process. Furthermore, a dissonance was identified between Western educational models and the Minangkabau cultural matrix, leading to identity alienation among students. As a strategic solution, this research proposes the paradigm of "Pendidikan Seni Terapeutik Berbasis Kearifan Lokal" through the revitalization of the "Neo-Surau" model and the "Mamak Akademik" mentorship system. The implementation of the egalitarian "Lingkaran Randai" art criticism format is proposed to create a safe space that humanizes and heals. In conclusion, the integration of modern psychology with local ethnopedagogical values is key to transforming art education into an empowering and sustainable process.

Abstract

Abstract

Social relationships within peer groups are a crucial factor in students' academic and personal success. Good relationships enable students to fully realize their potential. However, many students experience difficulties interacting, such as feeling isolated, easily offended, and even having communication problems via social media. This article represents a best practice conducted by researchers. The activity was conducted in a single meeting, focusing on social relationships within peer groups. This best practice study found that students were quite active in participating in group guidance services, beginning with a game of names played by all group members. Group guidance, using a Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approach, employing cognitive restructuring techniques and discussion strategies, improved students' understanding of social relationships and helped them develop their potential. Students became more active, less awkward or shy about speaking in front of others, and more open, which directly improved the quality of their interactions with peers.

Abstract

Meaning of life is a fundamental psychological need that influences adolescents’ well-being, motivation, and identity development. In the Minangkabau cultural context, philosophical values such as “hidup bajaso, mati bapusako” emphasize purposeful living and meaningful contribution. However, many adolescents demonstrate moderate to low levels of life meaning, indicating the need for culturally responsive counseling interventions. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of agentic group guidance in improving the meaning of life among Minangkabau ethnic adolescents. This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest model. Twenty Minangkabau students with moderate to low levels of meaning of life were selected through purposive sampling and assigned to an experimental group (n = 10) and a control group (n = 10). The experimental group received six sessions of agentic group guidance, while the control group received conventional guidance services. Data were collected using the Meaning of Life Questionnaire (α = 0.87) and analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U Test. The findings revealed a significant increase in meaning of life scores in the experimental group after the intervention. Furthermore, posttest comparisons indicated that the improvement in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. These results suggest that agentic group guidance is an effective and culturally relevant intervention for enhancing adolescents’ meaning of life. Integrating agency principles with local cultural values can strengthen students’ self-direction, goal setting, and psychological development in school settings.

Abstract

Social capital is directly linked to the phenomenon that occurs in the community. Multicultural counseling based on social capital can help with these issues. Social capital is a way of forming a strong link between people in order to establish a society. Social capital is divided into two categories: those that focus on the network of social contacts and those that focus on the inherent traits of individuals involved in social interactions. Multicultural counseling is still underserved in guidance and counseling services. One of the reasons why the service isn't up to par is because the counselor lacks certain talents, particularly when it comes to counseling approaches. As a result, a separate study on intercultural counseling is required. As a result, the author delivers a concept paper on multicultural counseling in a plural society in Indonesia based on social capital. After reviewing a variety of scientific sources, this manuscript was created. With this document, it is intended that counselors will be able to use it as a resource for implementing intercultural counseling based on social capital in Indonesia's plural society.

Abstract

Readiness for retirement based on sex, position and family social support and its implications for Guidance and Counseling services. This study aims to describe the readiness to face retirement in civil servants in terms of sex, position and family social support. The sample used in this study were 40 civil servants who would retire in various government agencies in Padang Panjang City, West Sumatra. This research uses Proportional Random Sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was a scale of readiness retirement with a reliability of 0.893 and a scale of family social support with a reliability of 0.941. The findings show that there is no difference in readiness retirement in terms of sex, position and family social support. This shows that there are other factors that can affect a person's retirement readiness. These factors are age, education level, race, ethnicity and personality. Self-efficacy is a personality dimension which is an individual's assessment of his or her ability or competence to do a task, achieve a goal, and produce something.
