Abstract

This research aims to develop the Adventures in the World of Light (AiWoL) comic to understand the concept of the duality of light (as particles and waves). AiWoL tells the journey of the concept of the duality of light and is part of an Augmented Reality (AR) development project called Physics Virtual Technology Teaching Tools (PV3T). This development uses the Identify, Design, Development, Evaluation (IDDE) design. Validity sheets are given to physics, media, and conceptual psychology experts to see the feasibility of the AiWoL comic. Respondents at the evaluation stage were 39 students who had studied light waves (in the aspects of image clarity, language usage, and conceptual understanding). Meanwhile, Rasch analysis was used to identify the feasibility of the AiWoL comic based on the respondents' answers. The results showed that the instrument quality value in terms of the suitability of the physics concept (86), media feasibility (92), and psychology of conception (98) (all in the very good category). Meanwhile, the results of the Rasch analysis showed that the AiWoL comic feasibility instrument was reliable (0.94 (excellent)) and valid (56.1% (appropriate)). In addition, the AiWoL comic has aspects of Image clarity (83%), Language usage (85%), and Conceptual understanding (85%) (all in the very good category). These results also confirm no bias towards the semester and gender. Furthermore, the AiWoL comic will be used as part of the design for developing Physics Virtual Technology Teaching Tools (PV3T), which is an application based on Augmented Reality (AR).

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the validity and reliability of a critical thinking skills instrument on the topic of wave-particle dualism using the Rasch model. Data collection was carried out by administering a critical thinking skills test to students enrolled in a modern physics course. A total of 36 students from a university in West Nusa Tenggara participated. Data analysis was performed using the Rasch model through the Winsteps 4.6.1 software. The results indicated that the instrument is valid and reliable. The instrument's validity was tested by examining the data's fit to the Rasch model through infit and outfit MNSQ values and ZSTD, all of which were within the expected acceptance range. Construct validity was analysed through standardized residual variance, showing that the Rasch model can explain most of the variance in the data. Similarly, the instrument's reliability showed that the item reliability was in the very good category (0.93) and the person reliability was in the moderate category (0.68), with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.86, indicating very good internal reliability. These findings confirm that the Rasch model is effective in assessing and improving the quality of critical thinking skills evaluation instruments in the context of modern physics education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a student worksheet assisted by Stellarium website through a design-thinking framework on the topic of the solar system which is stated to be theoretically feasible based on_validation results by the experts. The development of this student worksheet was carried out because students in seventh grade at one of the State Middle Schools in Bandung experienced obstacles in completing the student worksheet due to lack of time and feel less understanding of the material contained in the student worksheet. This study uses the Design & Development Research with a design-thinking framework consisting of 5 principles, namely empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The initial stage was conducting interviews with 15 students, identifying problems in seventh grade, then making a prototype in the form of student worksheet and validated by experts. Findings indicate that the average overall percentage of validation is 91.9% which means that the student worksheet is included in the very good category, This data also shows that the student worksheet is worthy of being tested in schools with improvements according to the suggestions and input given. However, this student worksheet has not been tested yet, due to limited time, so a trial process needs to be conducted in improving conceptual understanding, increasing interest in learning and developing 21st century skills.

Abstract

This research aims to provide a basis, reference, and insights into teachers' readiness in considering the implementation of two different curricula, namely the Merdeka Curriculum (KM) and the 2013 Curriculum (K13), while also describing teachers' perceptions of both curricula. This article serves as a valuable source of information for teachers by offering a comprehensive view and information regarding curriculum implementation. The method used in writing this article involves qualitative and descriptive literature studies. Data were obtained through literature reviews and observations, supplemented by structured interviews with several teachers from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools in Rokan Hulu Regency selected purposively. Upon reevaluation, it was found that more teachers in Rokan Hulu tend to support the Merdeka Curriculum based on the existing KM system. However, it was also found that in Rokan Hulu, using the K-13 Curriculum is more efficient, considering teacher competencies and the availability of adequate school facilities, which only partially support the seamless implementation of the KM. As stated, "If you want to implement KM, infrastructure and support must be available, and what exists should be developed without hesitation," it becomes clear that the Merdeka Curriculum, alongside its demands on teachers at all school levels in Rokan Hulu, faces practical implementation challenges and inadequate infrastructure. Therefore, the author recommends to education stakeholders a gradual and comprehensive infrastructure improvement plan to ensure the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This systematic literature review investigates the role of computer modeling in science education with the objective of synthesizing its effectiveness in enhancing students' understanding of complex scientific concepts and providing actionable recommendations for pedagogical and policy improvements. The study employs a systematic approach to analyze 27 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2023, sourced from the Scopus database. Through this review, it is evident that computer modeling facilitates the visualization of abstract phenomena, such as molecular changes and planetary movements, which are otherwise challenging to observe in traditional classroom settings. Furthermore, the findings demonstrate that computer simulations positively impact student engagement and motivation, leading to increased interest, participation, and critical thinking skills in science subjects. However, several challenges persist, including teacher skill gaps, insufficient technological infrastructure, and an over-reliance on virtual experiences, which limit the broader implementation of this innovative tool. This review concludes that addressing these barriers is crucial to maximizing the potential of computer modeling in science education. The insights derived from this study serve as valuable guidelines for educators and policymakers to effectively integrate computer modeling into science curricula, thereby advancing both teaching practices and student learning outcomes. This study concludes with actionable policy recommendations, including teacher training, infrastructure development, and curriculum integration, to address pedagogical challenges and technological barriers

Abstract

This study aimed to develop Physics Learning Media assisted by Rebuttal Texts (PhyLeM-ReT), integrated with the Predict, Observe, Explain, Apply, and Write (POEAW) model for work and energy material. The development research design employed in this study was ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The participants were 30 tenth-grade students from a private high school in Bandung. A student response questionnaire to the media was implemented, which comprised 19 statements (10 positive and nine negative) and was evaluated using a Likert scale. This study implemented Rasch analysis. The result showed that 25 students agreed with the positive statements and disagreed with the negative statements related to interest in learning physics, the use of media, enthusiasm for learning, and usefulness in understanding concepts. Thus, PhyLeM-ReT integrated with the POEAW model facilitates students' comprehension of energy and work material. The developed media can also serve as an alternative for teachers in teaching, specifically enhancing and transforming students' conceptions. This research is crucial in an era where misconceptions regarding physics persist, as it aims to offer effective alternative learning media that can address these obstacles. Additionally, this research presents opportunities for further development in integrating comparable methods into other subject areas of physics that necessitate a profound conceptual approach.
