Abstract

Teacher's strategies in implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in IPAS (Natural and Social Science) learning to enhance students' science process skills in Grade IV of SD IT Cahaya Hati Jambi. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis. The subjects of this study were one IPAS teacher and several Grade IV students. The results showed that: (1) the teacher planned problem-based learning systematically by integrating PBL syntax into the teaching module; (2) the implementation of PBL was carried out according to PBL stages, with the teacher serving as a facilitator and students actively engaged in observation, discussion, problem-solving, and presentation activities; (3) the teacher's strategies to improve science process skills were implemented through authentic problem provision, prompting questions, group work, and process assessment; and (4) the application of PBL had a positive impact on improving students' science process skills, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and self-confidence. The findings confirm that PBL implementation in IPAS learning is effective in creating more active, meaningful, and contextual learning experiences for elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the political participation of PPKn students at Jambi University in the 2024 Legislative Election and analyze students' civic awareness in the practice of political participation. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews and documentation with active PPKn students, political science lecturers, and student organization administrators. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the political participation of PPKn students at Jambi University is in the fairly good category. Dominant forms of participation include exercising their right to vote, following developments in political issues, and political discussions through social media and the campus environment. However, student involvement in more substantive political activities such as election monitoring, advocacy, and political education is still relatively low. Based on the Civic Voluntarism Model indicators from Verba, Schlozman, and Brady (1995), student participation is influenced by resources, psychological involvement, and social recruitment networks. Student civic awareness has begun to form, but its implementation in democratic practice still needs to be improved so that students are able to carry out their role as agents of change in democratic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model in improving students’ learning participation in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) subjects at the elementary school level. Low student participation in IPAS learning activities is a common problem encountered in the field, characterized by minimal active involvement of students in discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and problem-solving activities. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study were the teacher and fourth-grade students of SDN 182/1 Hutan Lindung, Jambi City. The results showed that the implementation of the TPS model significantly increased students’ active participation, including asking questions, answering questions, engaging in discussions, and expressing opinions. The TPS model proved effective in creating a more interactive, collaborative, and student-centered learning environment. The implications of this study provide recommendations for educators to integrate the TPS model as an innovative learning strategy in IPAS instruction at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement of Computational Thinking (CT) skills in elementary school students through the Treasure Map learning media. The low CT ability of elementary school students has become an increasingly urgent issue amid the 21st-century competency demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. The lack of concrete, non-digital CT learning media appropriate for elementary school students' cognitive development represents a research gap that needs to be addressed. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Research subjects were teachers and fifth-grade students at SDN 111/I Muara Bulian. The results show that the Treasure Map media effectively improved all four CT components: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. The media also proved effective in increasing student motivation and enthusiasm through a contextual gamification approach that does not require digital devices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in improving students' critical thinking skills in Natural and Social Science (IPAS) subjects at Elementary School. Critical thinking ability is one of the essential competencies in the 21st century, but in reality many elementary school learning activities are still passive and do not encourage students to think critically. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The research subjects were grade IV teachers and students at SDN 64/I Muara Bulian. The results showed that PBL-based LKPD was able to create meaningful learning experiences through contextual problem presentation, encouraging students to think analytically, ask questions, and formulate solutions independently. The most prominent aspects of critical thinking that developed were the ability to analyze, evaluate, and conclude. Thus, PBL-based LKPD proved effective as an IPAS learning medium that encourages critical thinking skills of Elementary School students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the relationship between computational thinking and science literacy of fifth-grade elementary school students in science learning. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects consisted of a fifth-grade teacher and fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research instruments used were observation sheets compiled based on computational thinking indicators decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms as well as science literacy indicators including explaining scientific phenomena, using scientific information, connecting IPA concepts to everyday life, and interpreting scientific data. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that students' computational thinking skills have begun to emerge in science learning activities, particularly in decomposition and pattern recognition, while abstraction and algorithm indicators still require further development. Students' science literacy was also visible in their ability to explain simple scientific phenomena and connect science material to real-life contexts. Computational thinking and science literacy are interrelated: students who think logically and systematically tend to understand science concepts more deeply. These findings indicate that more interactive and contextual science learning is needed to optimally develop both skills.

Abstract

Science learning in elementary schools plays an important role in developing students’ conceptual understanding and scientific thinking skills from an early age. However, in practice, science learning is still often dominated by conventional teacher-centered methods that are less effective in developing students’ conceptual understanding. Therefore, innovative learning models are needed to encourage students’ active involvement in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the optimization of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in strengthening elementary school students’ understanding of science concepts through a literature review approach. The research method used in this study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by analyzing various national and international journal articles published between 2020 and 2026. The literature search was conducted through several academic databases such as Google Scholar, ERIC, and Science Direct using keywords relevant to the research topic. The results of the review indicate that the implementation of Problem Based Learning can improve students’ conceptual understanding of science, critical thinking skills, and learning motivation. In addition, the optimization of PBL implementation can be achieved through the use of contextual problems, effective group discussions, and the utilization of various learning media. Therefore, Problem Based Learning can serve as an effective alternative learning model to improve the quality of science learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of implementing Computational Thinking in elementary school IPAS learning to develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. However, the implementation of Computational Thinking (CT) in IPAS learning still faces various challenges, particularly related to teachers’ understanding and readiness in integrating CT elements into the learning process. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Computational Thinking in IPAS learning at elementary schools and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of two fifth-grade IPAS teachers from two public elementary schools selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and classroom observations. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, including data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the implementation of CT in IPAS learning was still not optimal. The most commonly applied CT elements were decomposition and pattern recognition, while abstraction and algorithmic thinking were rarely implemented. Supporting factors included teachers’ basic understanding of CT and the contextual characteristics of IPAS learning, whereas inhibiting factors included limited teacher understanding, lack of training, limited CT-based learning references, and limited instructional time.

Abstract

This study tests an integrated UTAUT3 and Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT) model to predict Artificial Intelligence (AI) use among 1,050 elementary school teachers in Jambi Province, Indonesia. Using a quantitative survey design, the study analyzed the data with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Habit was the strongest predictor of AI use (β = 0.408, p < .001), followed by Social Needs (β = 0.172, p < .001), Hedonic Motivation (β = 0.112, p = 0.003), Cognitive Needs (β = 0.089, p = 0.016), Social Influence (β = 0.069, p = 0.018), and Personal Innovativeness (β = 0.065, p = 0.013). Affective Needs (β = 0.066, p = 0.116), Performance Expectancy (β = 0.048, p = 0.095), Effort Expectancy (β = -0.020, p = 0.514), and Facilitating Conditions (β = 0.030, p = 0.308) were not statistically significant. These results indicate that AI use in this setting is more strongly associated with habitual and psychosocial motivations than with conventional utility expectations. The findings suggest that educational policy should complement infrastructure and technical training with professional collaboration, AI literacy, and supportive school ecosystems. The integrated UTAUT3–UGT framework provides a useful basis for examining AI use among elementary school teachers in a developing-region context.
