Abstract

Seniority culture in educational settings reflects social hierarchies based on age, level, or experience differences. This study examines how conflict dynamics between senior and junior groups in a seniority-based educational environment affect students' social interactions and foster a safe, inclusive atmosphere. Using a literature review method, the research employs conflict theory to understand seniority culture dynamics, involving literature search, selection, systematic data organization, analysis of findings, and synthesis. The findings indicate that seniority culture can influence students' social interactions, often leading to negative behaviors such as bullying and discrimination. Family, school, and community environments significantly shape students' behavior related to seniority, with a lack of social control triggering negative behaviors. Recommendations include changing values, enhancing moral education, and increasing the role of teachers and school staff in cultivating a safe, inclusive environment. The research underscores the need for awareness of seniority culture's impact and implementing concrete measures to mitigate its negative effects. Implications emphasize value transformation, the crucial role of educators, and collaboration between family, school, and community to foster effective social control. This study offers a comprehensive understanding of seniority culture in education and highlights the importance of collective efforts to create safe and inclusive educational environments

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of using the historical novel Kurir-Kurir Kemerdekaan as a learning source on high school students’ historical imagination. Historical imagination includes the ability to re-enact past events, interpret their meaning reflectively, and understand the emotions and motivations of historical actors within their temporal context. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pretest–posttest group approach was employed. Two classes participated: the experimental group, which used a historical novel, and the control group, which engaged in a project-based shadow puppet performance. Results showed that the experimental group experienced a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.001), from an average score of 25.42 to 52.33, with an N-Gain of 35.56, higher than the control group’s 22.86. Indicator-based analysis revealed the highest gain in empathy (0.39), followed by interpretation (interrogation) at 0.28, and narrative reconstruction (re-enacting) at 0.24. These findings demonstrate that historical novel-based instruction is more effective in enhancing students’ affective and reflective engagement with history. The narrative elements within novels help students form emotional and cognitive connections with the past and interpret historical events in a more humanistic manner.

Abstract

Tarawangsa traditional music in Sukaluyu Village, Sumedang Regency, has undergone a significant transformation due to the community’s social, cultural, and religious dynamics. Once a sacred function in the Bubur Sura ritual that contains elements of belief in Dewi Sri and ancestors, this art has now shifted to become a medium for entertainment, therapy, and public performances. This study aims to examine the changing function of Tarawangsa in the context of contemporary Sukaluyu society. The method used is qualitative-descriptive, with data collection techniques through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with artists and local communities. The results showed that shifts in community values, the influence of globalization, and changes in religious orientation have led to the cessation of the main ritual practice since 2018. Nevertheless, Tarawangsa has survived through thanksgiving performances, healing ceremonies, and cultural activities in local media and art festivals. These findings confirm that Tarawangsa is a dynamic and adaptive cultural heritage, with strong preservation potential when managed in a contextual and participatory manner.

Abstract

Environmental literacy programs in industrial contexts remain underexplored despite growing recognition of their importance in addressing local environmental challenges. This study examined the effectiveness of an environmental literacy program at SDN Warnasari Cilegon in enhancing students' environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors within an industrial city setting. A descriptive quantitative pre-post intervention design was employed with 180 elementary students (grades IV-VI) who participated in a contextually relevant environmental literacy program focusing on waste management and water conservation. Data collection utilized validated questionnaires, behavioral observations, and semi-structured interviews. Pre-post comparisons were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests with effect sizes calculated using Cohen's d. Results demonstrated significant improvements across all dimensions: environmental knowledge increased from 58.4 to 78.6 points (p < 0.001, d = 1.67), attitudes improved from 3.12 to 4.21 on a five-point scale (p < 0.001, d = 1.72), and behaviors showed substantial enhancement with participation rates increasing by 40-55% in key environmental practices. Qualitative findings revealed that hands-on, locally relevant activities were particularly effective in connecting theoretical knowledge to practical application. The program successfully addressed the knowledge-behavior gap through experiential learning approaches targeting industrial city-specific environmental challenges. This research contributes novel insights into environmental literacy program effectiveness in industrial contexts, providing a replicable model for educational institutions facing similar environmental pressures and demonstrating the critical importance of contextual relevance in environmental education programming.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the numeracy literacy skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Rancakalong. Numeracy literacy is a fundamental skill necessary for understanding and applying mathematical concepts in daily life. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research sample consists of 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a numeracy literacy test, which includes three main indicators: number understanding, data interpretation, and solving numerical problems. The results show that the majority of students fall into the "sufficient" (33.33%) and "low" (30%) categories, with an overall average score of 45. Although there are a few students in the "good" and "very good" categories, their numbers are relatively small (6.67%). Factors contributing to the low numeracy literacy skills include a lack of connection between the test questions and real-life contexts, low learning motivation, and teaching methods that remain too theoretical. This study recommends the implementation of context-based learning, the use of technology in education, and training for teachers to enhance students' numeracy literacy. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of more effective teaching strategies to improve numeracy literacy at the primary education level.

Abstract

So far, history learning has given little space to students because it emphasizes memorization, but in differentiated learning, students are given space to develop their interests and talents. This happens because creativity is formed when students are given space to think and create according to their interests and talents. This study aims to explain the implementation of differentiated learning strategies in history subjects in high schools. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type, using participant observation data collection techniques, structured interviews, and documentation studies. The data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The researcher found that the implementation of differentiated learning is effective in improving the quality of the teaching and learning process. Differentiated learning, carried out by adjusting content, processes, and evaluations according to the needs, interests, and abilities of students, can create a learning environment that is more inclusive and responsive to individual differences. The success of differentiated learning can be seen from the responses of students, who stated that students feel enthusiastic and motivated because they can create a product that is the result of their abilities and creativity. Support from the school in providing facilities and training for teachers also contributes to the success of the implementation of differentiated learning. Thus, differentiated learning has been proven to be able to increase the effectiveness of history learning and encourage optimal academic development of students. Then, differentiated learning can be used as inspiration in implementing learning based on the principles of the independent curriculum.

Abstract

Abstract: Fostering Food Sustainability: Enhancing Awareness Of Local Food Consumption Among Secondary School Students. Background and Objective: This study aims to explore the awareness of secondary school students regarding local food consumption, particularly in Serang City, Indonesia, through indicators of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. Method: Involving 325 students, the research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. Findings: The findings revealed that 70.2% of students demonstrated a good understanding of local food sustainability; however, only 61.4% showed positive attitudes, and 54.8% exhibited behavior aligned with local food consumption in daily life. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a significant but weak relationship between students’ knowledge and attitudes (r=0.112; p<0.05), while the relationships between knowledge and behavior, as well as attitudes and behavior, were not statistically significant. These inconsistencies suggest that increasing knowledge does not automatically lead to positive attitude and behavior changes. Therefore, a more integrated approach to food sustainability education is required, including the incorporation of sustainability themes into school curricula, project-based learning, and policies to control the availability of unhealthy processed foods on school campuses. These strategies align with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Conklusion: In conclusion, while students demonstrate a good theoretical understanding, more effective interventions are needed to encourage the adoption of attitudes and behaviors that support sustainable and healthy local food consumption. This study recommends collaboration among the government, educational institutions, and communities to create a generation more conscious of food sustainability. Keywords: education, food sustainability, local food consumption, SDGs.
