Abstract

The problem faced in cultivation of ginger is the availability of uniform plant propagation materials.  Ginger is propagated through underground rhizomes. Growth of the  rhizome is not uniform, since the shoots do not sprout at the same time. Most of the rhizomes were attacked by several diseases such as bacterial wilt, soft rot, and nematodes. Propagation of plant material through in-vitro culture is also an obstacle since the price of pure agar and chemicals is very expensive. Therefore, production of cheap, uniform and disease-free plant materials with rapid multiplication rate is necessary for the successful ginger cultivation. The use of alternative media on in-vitro culture of ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) cv. Gajah was conducted in order to substitute cheaper alternative media for in-vitro culture of ginger. An experiment using two basic composition of media (MS and liquid fertilizer) and three different types of agar (seaweed, Swallow and Oxoid agar) was done at the Tissue Culture Laboratory of Center for Research and Development of Isotope and Radiation Technology, Jakarta. The result showed that the highest shoot height, number of shoot and leaf was obtained from medium composition of sea weed and MS. Whilst the medium of Oxoid agar and MS produced the longest and the highest number of root. The cheapest medium was found from seaweed and liquid fertilizer composition, whereas the most expensive medium was from Oxoid agar and MS composition. Seaweed and Swallow agar in MS media showed similar growth performance as well as Oxoid agar in development of ginger plantlets.    Key words : Media, In-Vitro, Ginger

Abstract

Since the integration of LIPI into BRIN in 2021, the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (MZB), which is managed by the coordinator of the zoological collection assisted by 20 collection technician staffs, has been transferred to the Directorate of Scientific Collections Management. The process of integration and management transfer does not change the main duties and functions of MZB as the national depository for zoological specimen collections. In addition to managing collections, researchers frequently ask MZB staff for assistance during field research and teaching collection management courses to students, teaching staff, and regional museum directors. The management of the MZB collection is described in a scientific publication for the first time. We hope that this documentation will continue so that museum management science can advance and assist the scientific community, particularly in Indonesia.

Abstract

From Reflection to Responsibility: A Conceptual Framework for Ethics and Value Formation in Social Studies Education. Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of reflective thinking in strengthening students’ values and ethics, particularly within the context of Social Studies Education. The focus is directed toward identifying relevant pedagogical strategies to enhance reflective thinking skills as a foundation for character formation and responsible citizenship in the 21st century. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach through a conceptual review designed to synthesize diverse literature related to reflective thinking, ethical education, and Social Studies pedagogy. The synthesis aims to construct a new conceptual framework that explains the interrelation between reflective thinking, ethical education, and the development of students’ moral and character values. Findings: The literature synthesis suggests that reflective thinking skills can be effectively developed through problem-based, project-based, and collaborative learning methods, supported by integrating digital technology to promote ongoing reflection. The process of strengthening values and ethics requires the integration of ethical content into learning materials, the implementation of character-based learning, the utilization of digital technology in reflective learning, and educators’ moral exemplification. Within the context of Social Studies Education, Kolb’s Reflective Model provides a practical framework linking experience, reflection, conceptualization, and application, enabling students to develop reflective thinking skills to analyze values, social issues, and ethical dimensions. Conclusion: Implementing learning practices that emphasize reflective thinking has the potential to produce graduates who not only master theoretical knowledge but also possess ethical awareness, character values, and civic competence in higher education. Further empirical research is recommended to examine the effectiveness of reflective learning models and their long-term impact on students’ character formation. Keywords: reflective thinking skills, values, ethics, social studies education, character development.

Abstract

Moral reasoning development through moral dilemmas represents a critical component of character education in elementary schools. However, declining empathy and increasing bullying incidents indicate significant gaps in students' moral reasoning capabilities. This study analyzed elementary school students' moral reasoning in resolving moral dilemmas, examining reasoning forms, developmental stages based on Kohlberg's theory, student interpretations, and influencing factors. Employing a qualitative case study approach, this research involved Grade III and V students at SD Negeri Pasirimpun, Sumedang City, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured teacher interviews, moral dilemma essay assessments, and classroom observations, then analyzed thematically using triangulation and member checking to enhance trustworthiness. Findings revealed that 70% of Grade V students and 53% of Grade III students remained at the pre-conventional stage, where moral decisions were driven by punishment avoidance or reward-seeking rather than internalized principles. Only 20% of students demonstrated autonomous moral reasoning based on moral awareness. Internal factors (motivation, empathy, personal experience) and external factors (teachers, family, peer influence, social media) significantly influenced moral reasoning processes. A critical gap existed between moral knowledge and consistent moral action. These findings underscore the necessity of synergy among schools, families, and communities in building strong moral reasoning foundations through systematic interventions emphasizing dialogue, perspective-taking, and critical reflection rather than mere rule compliance.
