Abstract

Processing palm fruit produces crude palm oil. Crude palm oil levels continue to increase during the fruit ripening process. The parameters used in determining the maturity criteria for palm oil harvest are color change and fruit breaking off from the bunch. Harvest quality is determined by the mature fraction. One of the problems that occurs in palm oil factories is the selection of palm fruit bunches (FFB), which are divided into three classes, namely unripe, ripe and over ripe. Selection of FFB is done manually, namely visually. The quality of palm oil is greatly influenced by the level of ripeness of the fruit at the time of harvest and post-harvest handling until the mill. This research aims to evaluate the use of variations in palm fruit maturity used in PKS which are related to yield and quality as well as oxidative stability and color. The research results showed that the variation in palm fruit maturity used resulted in the highest yield, namely 17% in P2. The quality of crude palm oil obtained from variations in fruit maturity shows different results, where the highest free fatty acid content of 2.57% is located in P2, namely a mixture of ripe and overripe fruit, while the highest water content is found in P2, namely 0.65 %. P3 has the highest impurity content of 0.68%. The oxidative stability and color obtained from using variations in fruit maturity that were heated for 24 hours decreased in value to red and yellow

Abstract

In supporting the success of the legislation on child protection, the government is implementing the Child-Friendly City/District (KLA) program across Indonesia. Based on the development of the Child-Friendly City program implemented in Pekanbaru, issues concerning child protection are still relatively low. This is due to Pekanbaru being one of the major cities that has experienced rapid changes and development on the island of Sumatra. The development of Pekanbaru has attracted many individuals seeking better livelihood opportunities in the city. The objective of this study is to examine the implementation of the child-friendly city program policy by the Office of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in Pekanbaru, as well as the factors impeding its effectiveness. The research employs a descriptive quantitative method, with data collection conducted through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The key informant for this study is the Head of the Office of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of Pekanbaru. Meanwhile, the other informants include the Head of the Child Protection and Empowerment Division, the Head of the Regional Planning Agency, the Chairman of the Women and Child Protection Integrated Service Center (P2TP2A), and the Child Forum of Pekanbaru. The results of the study indicate that, based on the research findings and analyses conducted by the author, the implementation of the child-friendly city program by the Office of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection in Pekanbaru is considered to be inadequate. This deficiency is attributed to the high number of reported cases handled by the Office, which serves as the agency responsible for addressing and mitigating violence against women and children

Abstract

Creativity is recognized as a central competency for twenty-first-century learners. Yet, physics classrooms often remain dominated by formulaic instruction that limits opportunities for students to exercise higher-order thinking. This study addresses the urgent need to foster creative thinking in physics, particularly in abstract topics such as projectile motion, by integrating TikTok media into a Project-Based Learning integrated STEM framework. The research aimed to investigate the effect of this integration on students’ creative thinking skills, measured across four indicators: fluency, originality, flexibility, and elaboration. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group, the study involved 67 Grade XI students from a senior high school in Makassar, Indonesia. The experimental group (n = 35) received instruction using Project-Based Learning–STEM with TikTok, while the control group (n = 32) learned through Project-Based Learning –STEM without TikTok. Data were collected using an essay-based test validated by experts and analyzed using normalized gain (N-gain) and an independent samples t-test. Results showed that the experimental class achieved significantly higher posttest scores, with N-gain in the high category (0.74) compared to the medium category in the control group (0.52). The greatest improvements were observed in elaboration and originality, reflecting the platform’s affordances for encouraging detailed explanations and unique representations of physics concepts. The findings confirm that integrating culturally relevant digital platforms within structured pedagogical designs enhances creativity beyond affective engagement. This study contributes to physics education by providing empirical evidence that TikTok, when aligned with PjBL–STEM, can bridge everyday digital practices with disciplinary learning to foster creativity, offering a novel and practical pathway for innovation in science education.

Abstract

This study identifies the sliding plane along the Seulawah Road (km 80-81), Muara Tiga, Pidie Regency, where a massive landslide occurred in 2023. Using the Multichannel Analysis Surface Waves (MASW) method, this research integrates shear wave velocity (Vs) data with N-SPT values and soil-bearing capacity to analyze subsurface characteristics. The study aims to characterize the sliding plane and associated weak zones by combining geophysical and geotechnical approaches. The interpretation reveals the existence of a sliding mass layer consisting of sandy gravel material at a depth of 1-3 meters with a Vs value in the range of 60-150 m/s. Underneath that, the sliding plane is found, which is interpreted as a stiff clay layer with the Vs value in the range of 155-450 m/s at a depth of 6-10 meters. The soil bearing capacity also aligned with these findings with the 20-80 kN/m2 value in the very loose sandy gravel layer. The soil-bearing capacity of the sliding plane, the clay layer, is 250-311 kN/m2. Those findings provide valuable insights into landslide characteristics and highlight the dynamic instability of the sliding plane. Moreover, this study contributes to assessing critical parameters for future reconstruction and road maintenance, offering an essential reference for landslide-prone regions.

Abstract

The increasingly complex problem of plastic waste needs to be addressed with more creative educational strategies so that people become more aware of the importance of preserving the environment. This study aims to describe the level of environmental awareness among FKIP students at Syiah Kuala University as future 21st-century teachers, covering knowledge, attitudes, and behavior, and to measure the effectiveness of learning interventions in increasing students' environmental awareness. This research uses a quantitative descriptive research method with initial data collection. The instruments used included a questionnaire that had been validated by experts to ensure data validity and reliability, and the test results showed that the instrument was suitable for use in the study. The research results indicate that the overall level of environmental awareness among students is still in the moderate category. A total of 58.99% of students' knowledge falls into the very low category, and 46.07% of students' attitudes are also in the same category. Meanwhile, in terms of behavior, 48.88% of students actually showed a high category. This finding indicates an imbalance between the cognitive, affective, and conative aspects of students' environmental awareness. To measure the effectiveness of awareness-raising efforts, a post-test was also conducted after the learning intervention, which showed a significant improvement, with the average knowledge score of students reaching 79%, attitudes 85%, and behavior 89%. Therefore, a strategy is needed to improve the quality of education thru stronger integration into the environmental education curriculum

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limited infrastructure of physics laboratories in educational institutions and students science process skills (SPS) which are still in the low category. This study examines the effectiveness of implementing virtual laboratory-based worksheets in improving four main indicators of SPS: the ability to formulate problems, formulate hypotheses, identify variables, and design experiments. This study is a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 35 grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Langsa. The research instrument is in the form of validated pretest and posttest questions, compiled based on the four indicators of SPS being studied. Data analysis uses the N-gain test to measure the increase in the ability of each indicator of SPS. The results of the study showed a significant increase in all indicators of SPS with N-gain values: identifying variables (0.92; high category), designing experiments (0.69; medium category), formulating problems (0.56; medium category), and formulating hypotheses (0.53; medium category). These findings confirm that virtual laboratory based worksheets are effective as an alternative to physics learning in developing students SPS. This study recommends the implementation of virtual laboratories as an innovative solution to overcome the limitations of conventional laboratory facilities and support digital transformation in science education
