Abstract

This study examines the relationship between family socioeconomic status and children's educational attainment in low-income communities. The research stems from the persistent educational inequality in Indonesia, largely influenced by family economic conditions. Using a qualitative case study design conducted in Sudimara Barat, Tangerang, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically. The results show that economic limitations affect access to education, learning facilities, and opportunities for higher study. However, social support from parents, teachers, and peers helps sustain students’ learning motivation and serves as a balancing factor amid financial constraints. The study reveals that educational inequality is shaped not only by economic factors but also by the lack of social and cultural capital within families. Theoretically, it contributes to the sociology of education by exploring the interaction between economic, social, and cultural capital. Practically, it recommends more inclusive and information-based educational policies to improve access and equity for low-income families.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the motivation of students participating in martial arts clubs (UKM) under the Student Sports Federation (FORSA) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with four informants representing various martial arts disciplines. The findings reveal that students’ motivation is predominantly driven by intrinsic factors such as interest, personal satisfaction, and the desire to develop physical and mental abilities. Extrinsic motivations, including social support, peer encouragement, and opportunities for achievement, also reinforce students’ enthusiasm for active participation. Martial arts activities within FORSA offer extensive benefits physically, mentally, and socially—by enhancing fitness, building character, and fostering soft skills such as discipline, leadership, and self-confidence. Overall, FORSA plays a crucial role as a platform for character development and strengthening the identity of resilient, sportsmanlike, and integrity-driven students.

Abstract

Bureaucratic simplification has become a strategic agenda in Indonesia’s public sector reform, particularly through the conversion of administrative positions into functional positions. This policy aims to create a more agile, professional, and competency-based bureaucracy while improving organizational effectiveness and public service performance. This study analyzes the implementation of position equalization from structural to functional positions from the perspectives of organizational restructuring and civil servant career development in Siak Regency, Riau Province. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to explore the dynamics of policy implementation within local government institutions. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving key stakeholders responsible for human resource management and organizational governance. The analysis was guided by organizational design theory and career development theory to examine changes in organizational structure, authority distribution, coordination mechanisms, career planning, competency development, promotion opportunities, and career path certainty. The findings indicate that position equalization has contributed to a leaner organizational structure, improved functional specialization, and greater flexibility in public administration. However, several challenges remain, including competency mismatches, limited understanding of the functional position credit system, and uncertainty regarding long-term career advancement. These issues affect employee motivation and the effectiveness of career management practices. The study proposes an integrative implementation model that aligns organizational restructuring with competency-based career development and merit-based personnel management. Such alignment is essential for strengthening bureaucratic reform and ensuring sustainable professional development within local government institutions.

Abstract

Existing studies on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) tend to focus primarily on teachers’ instructional practices, with limited attention to the simultaneous examination of both teachers’ and students’ understanding, particularly in remote and culturally diverse regions. This study aims to analyze the level of understanding and implementation of CRP among senior high school teachers and students in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. A convergent mixed-methods design was employed. Quantitative data were collected through a structured CRP questionnaire administered to students, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with three teachers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis supported by NVivo software. The findings indicate that most students demonstrate an advanced level of understanding of CRP principles. Teachers exhibited varying levels of competence, with one teacher reaching an exemplary level in curriculum integration and structural inequity prevention. These results suggest that CRP implementation in East Nusa Tenggara has progressed significantly; however, sustained institutional support and deeper critical reflection remain necessary to achieve systemic and long-term impact.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the legal implications following the liquidation of PT Rumah Sakit Haji Jakarta and its transformation into Rumah Sakit Haji UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. It also seeks to examine whether the liquidation process complies with Law Number 40 of 2007 concerning Limited Liability Companies. Research Methodology: This research applies a normative juridical method using statute and conceptual approaches. The study is based on literature review, utilizing primary legal sources such as Law Number 40 of 2007, Law Number 28 of 2007, and Minister of Religious Affairs Decree Number 459 of 2020. Secondary sources include books, academic journals, prior studies, and official reports, including the 2023 Liquidator Report. Data are analyzed qualitatively through a descriptive-analytical method to interpret legal norms and assess the liquidation process. Results: The findings indicate that the liquidation process was conducted in accordance with applicable laws and did not violate legal provisions. The use of circular shareholder resolutions aligns with Article 91 of Law Number 40 of 2007. The settlement of tax obligations, debts, and assets was completed properly. The transformation into a Public Service Agency (BLU) resulted in significant changes in legal status, governance, and asset ownership. Conclusions: The study concludes that the liquidation process is legally valid and consistent with corporate law. The involvement of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta remains lawful as long as the liquidation is executed by an authorized liquidator. The legal status shifts from private corporate law to public administrative law. Limitations: This study is limited to normative legal analysis without empirical data such as interviews or field observations. Contributions: This study contributes to the development of corporate and administrative law, especially in cases of non-conventional liquidation involving public institutions. It benefits academics, legal practitioners, and policymakers

Abstract

Religious diversity in Indonesia extends beyond interreligious differences to include intra-religious sub-groups, often termed “streams” (aliran), distinguished by variations in rituals, congregations, religious symbols, and theological orientation (madhhab). While interreligious friendships have been widely studied, little is known about how individuals navigate intra-religious diversity in shaping friendship preferences. This study explores the relevance of religious streams in friendships to uncover preferences for engaging in same- or cross-group friendships within the same religion. This study was conducted by administering an online qualitative survey and analyzing the 131 valid responses using thematic analysis. Results indicate that most participants (89%) reported that religious streams did not influence their friendship preferences, expressing openness to friendships across different religious streams. However, a small proportion of participants expressed a preference for homophily or same-group friendship. The findings are presented into two themes: (1) preference for same-group friendships, reflecting homophily as a means for personal religious advancement; and (2) preference for cross-group friendship, characterized by pluralistic openness and religious dialogue navigation. As a synthesis, religious streams in friendship preferences reflect attitudes in negotiating the importance of social identity and navigating religious dialogue when engaging with religious matters. These two preferences should not be viewed as inherently contradictory; rather, they demonstrate the dynamic nature of religious life within pluralistic societies.

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have driven the transformation of history education through the use of more interactive and contextual Android-based media. This study aims to explore students’ experiences in using Android-based local history learning and to analyze its contribution to enhancing their understanding of Yogyakarta’s cultural heritage. The study employed a qualitative approach, involving 10th-grade students and a history teacher at a high school in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via open-ended questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and observations, and were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that Android-based local history learning enhances students’ interest and motivation, facilitates their understanding of the history and philosophical values of Yogyakarta’s cultural heritage, and fosters a growing awareness of the need to preserve local culture. The integration of multimedia—including text, images, videos, interactive maps, and quizzes—provides a more meaningful learning experience compared to conventional teaching methods. This study contributes an Android-based local history learning model that integrates Yogyakarta’s cultural heritage as a contextual learning resource, thereby supporting the strengthening of students’ cultural identity while also promoting cultural preservation in the era of digital transformation.
